Removing [CTPWC]

I’m removing signs of life,
covering family graffiti.
Washing away tiny hand prints,
scrubbing clean his black scuff.

There are pencil marks,
records of their growth.
Dozens of nail holes,
where pictures once hung.

There’s the dusty shadow,
from her favorite poster.
A missing puzzle piece
that probably didn’t matter.

Will the new owners
wonder who we were?
Will they discover
a memory left behind?

I’m covering memories.
Painting over feelings
with a thin skin.

How do you remove?

Ooooh, I really feel this one. I like the term you used, "family graffiti" as well, very descriptive.

Thank you for your kind word. This was written just after my divorce and I had to prepare the family home for sale by myself. My two children had already moved out.

Now I feel it even more. Those situations will really bring things out of us.

Don't know why... but I thought of this...

Moving out and moving on, what an ideal time to capture the biter sweetness of our lives. Tiny little things that go unnoticed until life forces us to reflect. Great title too. S&F


Ok, I just realized that family graffiti was not the title. It must've just jumped out at me from the poem and I had to reply. I think it could be an alternate title though.
