500 cats stuffed together were rescued when a truck was stopped in a routine traffic check.

The neglected and hungry cats were piled together in cages as the truck seemingly made its way to food outlets to sell the pets as meat.

Luckily, the animals, some of which had been cruelly stuffed in bags, were rescued thanks to vehicle checks in Xuzhou, in the eastern province of Jiangsu. Officer Sun Hai, who helped rescue the terrified felines along with a colleague, said: 'The driver said it was a full load of rabbit.

'But after we instructed him to uncover the load we were shocked to find a full load of living cats.'

The cats have now been transferred to an animal rescue centre at Tangzhang County, where they are being treated.

The Chinese don't really eat cats but some Chinese people do make soup out of them.

So, almost every restaurant in China has dog on the menu but eating a cat is cruel and illegal?

The Chinese say "Eat a dog in the Summer and you won't feel cold in the winter".

The don't really eat cats though. Some people make soup out of them.

They do try doing the same for dogs, but it looks like they get more trouble when they do.

A number of years ago a restaurant was opened in Shenzhen (beside HongKong) in which a live monkey was on the menu, to have its head bashed in with spoons (head stuck through the center of a table).

The local Chinese were so appalled that they forced it to shut down.

The Chinese can be very cruel with animals though.

Didn't know that cats were on the menu. Always thought that it was puppies.

I remember seeing this on one of those "Faces Of Death" videos back in the 80(s)

I have this same one in my image files.

Years ago, a Chinese restaurant was shut down where I used to live because they were caught serving dog and cat both, and had been for a long time. I had eaten there plenty of times. All I can say is they do a fine job of preparing it.

Those cats look delicious!!!

Well you slaughter lamb, chickens, ect, but kill a cat or a dog and it's inhumane cause it has a name and is considered a pet. Who's the real hypocrites here?

I have two great cats that are my family so stories like this make me cringe! In reality though, they are animals like cows, chickens, moose, rats or what have you so if other cultures decide to eat them I have to remember that those involved don't see the need to domesticate cats or feel all warm and fuzzy about having them around. I do however hold a serious grudge with the way they're shipped and treated during that process. One animal per cage with food and water...Have some F***ing respect!!! Having said that, If I had the opportunity to ship these people off to the dinner plate I'd make it my mission to get as many as possible in one cage then spend all day trying to stuff in three more. I know that's not a nice thing to say but damn it...Looking at that image just makes me vibrate the wrong way!!!!!

I hear ya! My wife and I have two maine coons and a golden retriever.

The picture of those cats definitely rubs me the wrong way. I can't imagine my fuzzy monsters being dinner for someone.

Yea and whats also funny is you can raise a bunny, give it a name, make it a pet and then when it gets to the optimal age, skin it and eat it but do the same with a cat or dog or even a pet bird youll go to jail.

You know what's great? Going over to your friend's aunt's home and getting to see a real human brain, heart and liver and on top of that you get to touch them too with a rubber glove on! Then you go home and Mom has made stuffed peppers for dinner!

OH BOY, CAN NOT WAIT!

Please just remember that this looks insane to us but imagine what a slughterhouse here looks like to the Hindus. It's just a matter of perception. Perhaps we should all aim to be vegitarians if any of this truly bothers us.
