The neglected and hungry cats were piled together in cages as the truck seemingly made its way to food outlets to sell the pets as meat.
Luckily, the animals, some of which had been cruelly stuffed in bags, were rescued thanks to vehicle checks in Xuzhou, in the eastern province of Jiangsu. Officer Sun Hai, who helped rescue the terrified felines along with a colleague, said: 'The driver said it was a full load of rabbit.
'But after we instructed him to uncover the load we were shocked to find a full load of living cats.'
The cats have now been transferred to an animal rescue centre at Tangzhang County, where they are being treated.

So, almost every restaurant in China has dog on the menu but eating a cat is cruel and illegal?

Cats were always going missing in my area as a kid.The rumour was that the Chinese take away used them in the food, that and seagulls.
A number of years ago a restaurant was opened in Shenzhen (beside HongKong) in which a live monkey was on the menu, to have its head bashed in with spoons (head stuck through the center of a table).

Those cats look delicious!!!
Well you slaughter lamb, chickens, ect, but kill a cat or a dog and it's inhumane cause it has a name and is considered a pet. Who's the real hypocrites here?

I hear ya! My wife and I have two maine coons and a golden retriever.
The picture of those cats definitely rubs me the wrong way. I can't imagine my fuzzy monsters being dinner for someone.
