They will never succeed with a internet censorship within the USA. Look at what happened with SOPA. There is nothing to worry about, and even if they did it wouldn't be long until their would be work arounds.

When we were kids we had CB (Citizen Band) radios. That's obsolete tech now, but I suppose it'd still be functional. However, they don't mass market them like they used to.

You'd need to take away something that nearly everyone uses to communicate with, the internet, and thus ruin any supposed chances for a revolution.

Disorganization is the key to quell uprisings. Remember the "Occupy" movement? About as effective as starting a fire with wet tinder.

They are striking at a spot where we are the weakest. They know what they are doing. They are keeping themselves in power.

Unless we are all implanted with sim card chips that immediately identifys you if you go within 200 metres of an internet connection(worldwide wi fi).
And you can't connect without that chip?
Hard to get around that...espescially as the connection is refreshed via an acid vial that will leak if you upset the system.

They used to have bulletin boards for c64sand Amiga 500 users.
The thing is they say all these privacy revocations are to identify terrorists but in Australia they are stigmitising Trolls...and not long a troll will be labelled a terrorist and people with controversial free thinking opinions will be labelled trolls.
Its crazy how our freedoms are stripped to cater for the threat of mainly Islamic terror cells...its no different than Nazi Germany or Stalins Russia nor China.
Soon we will be fearful to criticise anything lest we be noticed.
And when paper becomes obsolete we will all be in the net.

There is TOR and freenet already. It uses the regular infrastructure, but in a way that you can only get to the sites if you have the program running. I can see either these will become way more developed, or people will come up with similar ways, but better. Never underestimate the power of pissed off geeks uniting

Some just don't get it eh?

Everybody should have a free and open forum [Interwebs] to voice opposing views and opinions regardless of what "Big Brother" wants! This threatens everybody's ability to express their opinions and thoughts freely on any side of an issue.

I'd think of all places ATS members would be united on this topic regardless of political, cultural, religious or social economic status however they are perceived?

tsk tsk.....

I remember last week when some members were giving out lists, information and recommendations on how to prepare for the arrival of Sandy.
There were a lot of members who were very vocal about how stupid we all were and that it was just an overblown load of hogwash.
I haven't seen much from those posters this week.

Don't get too comfortable with the things you have handed to you.
They all eventually get taken away.

I know man, this type of stuff should make people put their differences aside regardless of contradicting opinions as you mentioned.

United we shall be regardless of the people who refuse to accept our differences. Yourself and I do not always agree, but at the end of the day we are decent people who wish for the better of everyone, it's just certain aspects of the steps to reach that point may differ...besides the point we all mean well...most of us at least.

I really don't care! Sure its bound to happen "sometime" and lets be real about it, its killed the US post office! Sad part is its KILLED alot of things and helped alot of things too. Crime, why people don't work I'll never understand, bad childhood, NOT. So EYES everywhere, okay I'm not doing anything so do what you must.
Alot of BAD FREEDOM so to speak has come about the internet, hell it was not here they would find a way around anyway. Point is somethings SHOULD be watched since the world has its bad side! I do have an idea that should be concidered though.
Plainly put, prison should be prison and not a CASH COW! You go, no T.V no raido, books or anything but prison; a cell and your time! One year of that and nobody will commit anything again! Hence no crime! Water and food, no POP COFFEE CANDY VISITS just time and thats it!
OH so you want to go about rehab, since when? LOOK whats happening now in the east, people pretending to be elec repair man, same goes for the INTERNET/FACEBOOK its all FAKE. I do not want to be scamed, child taken avanged of, buy something I never needed!
ITS okay to share views, only the internet provides a mass view and ideas. Most really are of crap, it's that 3% that has TRUTH! OKAY make that 9% to keep you HAPPY!
IT'S the NEWS they DON"T want you to hear from another CONTRY from REAL PEOPLE that concerns them! STILL THERE IS THE THEM I WORRY ABOUT!

To all who care, I believe this FOX sensationalism is nothing more than an attempt to discredit anyone or anything who stands with the good guys on here. If we speak out against their agenda we are terrorists and a threat to national security and provocateurs like us deserve to be silenced

This summit in Dubai is the real deal and can and will affect us all if we allow it to.

Closed doors, and look at the attendance and their foreseen agenda...!

Where I live (#hole Canada) we have plenty of crazy laws coming into effect which fit right into this agenda and I'm not going to stand by and let it happen.

Check into your local happenings to stay tuned, I am confident the same is happening your way too no matter where you live.

This may be slightly off-topic, but does anyone think that the internet is sentient?

If so, would i allow itself to be regulated?

As a free American, I will say the U.N can kiss my free butt and they will not control what I do.
The same goes to the Illuminati (CFR) and every other traitor and enemy of the U.S Constitution.

The whole population of Canada is the last thing you want to piss off.

Australia has gone the same way with the NBN (National Broadband Network).
What a complete sham that thing is! The Aus tech heads knows the real intentions behind it, every privacy issue that's been raised has been trumped by "Keeping Australians safe".

Dear readers, screw the internet it is manipulative anyways.
I've recently noticed that facebook casts people into a digital censorship bubble which most users are not even aware of. The bubble starts big at first and gave you all lots of freedom, however the new format has been a clear step towards shrinking that bubble, conveniently shrinking shortly after Occupy failed because control of information is necessary to get these nutjobs to usher in global governance.
Here is an article I did on CISS systems:
uncoverthefakeroots.wordpress.com...

The idea is that even if you are starving for cash, a good CISS system for a printer costs maybe $50-$100.
you can buy 16-18 gallons of ink for around (Black, Yellow, Cyan and Magenta) for some $330 where I am at in Canada total landed cost, including customs.

With that volume of ink one can print 150,000 full color pages, of course the 30 full reems of 5,000 sheets would be $1200 total at staples -- I am still sourcing paper but getting people to donate paper is a lot easier than getting people to print stuff for you in color.

Get back to the foundations, screw the internet, and spread the word the way it worked for humanity every single time since the gutenberg press.
