Three Days of Darkness

I belive the three days of darknees refers to the end of this year. It is supposed to take three days for our planet to cross the "dark rift" aka galactic plane.

Thought only certain planets aligned with the center of the galaxy and we do not actually pass through the galactic plane. The galactic plane is still askew from our location and that the 26k year or so cycle was the axis and planet lining up thingie?

I'm so confused.
