When all you’re left with,
Is the pain,
Of this often cruel,
And pointless game.
It makes you wonder at it all,
Why we reach out, and why we fall.
Never close enough to touch,
Never far enough away,
I ever forgot your love.
I watched you fade from this world,
Too soon it seemed,
Barely beyond a girl.
You left a scar that ran so deep,
It’s never healed, still it weeps,
But the legacy you left behind,
Is never far from my mind.
Just like you, she smiles and I forget,
My soul uplifted with every step.
Now like you, she grows and grows,
More a young lady than you could ever know.
And yes, sometimes she drives me mad,
But you know....
I am proud that she calls me Dad.
