As usual, never waste an opportunity even during crisis as per the liberals. Surely the statements will be twisted and turned to the extremes...especially before the elections regardless of who posts the article/news on the web or TV (likes of MSNBC and their cartoons and other characters like sharpton). The real worthiness of the agency will be determined post the REAL reports and eyewitnesses on the ground from the entire Sandy cleanup, rescue and restoration effort.

"Absolutely," he said. "Every time you have an occasion to take something from the federal government and send it back to the states, that's the right direction. And if you can go even further and send it back to the private sector, that's even better." Mr. Romney not only believes that states acting independently can handle the response to a vast East Coast storm better than Washington, but that profit-making companies can do an even better job. He said it was "immoral" for the federal government to do all these things if it means increasing the debt...........
The left sees federalism - deliberately or stupidly - as akin to "stats' rights" - which is a dog whistle for the droolers and mouth breathers in their base meaning the GOP will bring back Jim Crow or some such nonsense. In fact, federalism will be our salvation. It will make government more efficient while stripping Washington of performing functions better left to the states or the private sector.

Read the article...

It's an absurd notion, but it's fully in line with decades of Republican resistance to federal emergency planning. FEMA, created by President Jimmy Carter, was elevated to cabinet rank in the Bill Clinton administration, but was then demoted by President George W. Bush, who neglected it, subsumed it into the Department of Homeland Security, and placed it in the control of political hacks. The disaster of Hurricane Katrina was just waiting to happen.

Yet government spending has increased.

Kinda defeats the whole "make government smaller" meme, doesn't it?

From the Forbes article linked by Sealing.

Amidst all the cries of Barack Obama being the most prolific big government spender the nation has ever suffered, Marketwatch is reporting that our president has actually been tighter with a buck than any United States president since Dwight D. Eisenhower.

So over 1 trillion a year, and yet it's lower than every president since Eisenhower?

And RIGHT sees it as a way to blame the left and demand change.

Disasters happened during Bush, and Bush grew the size of the government, and created new agencies, and agency heads, and botched the response, just like Obama has grown the size of government, and created new agencies, and botched many responses.

Knock it off already! If you didn't actively campaign for Ron Paul, or Gary Johnson, or some other Independent or 3rd Party figure, then you have no right to point fingers left or right. Left and Right are the same now.

The only hope lies in the fringe extremists on either side, who actually have more in common these days than anyone in the middle.

Yes, really.

Obama inherited a huge deficit from Bush, this is a FACT.

And despite that and the recession, he has managed to reign in spending so it didn't baloon even more.

Facts my friend, not right wing talking points or memes.

Yet you respond with left-wing talking points.

Please, don't you dare start telling us that Obama is a fiscal conservative.

There are no "fiscal conservatives" in party leadership. None. If they are truly a fiscal conservative, they will get shuffled to the fringes like Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich, or they will get adopted and converted like Paul Ryan. Fiscal Conservatives do not stay conservative and in the limelight for long. One or the other has to change.

I'm not even going to mention that your chart is from the Kock brothers Heritage Foundation. (Bugger! I just did.)
