The ringing rocks of eastern pennsylvania

Well i was just watching weird travles on discovery science channel and came across this.


They say bird wont fly over them that the animals keep clear of them
and there are the odd insects there.

If you hit them with a hammer they make a tone not all are the same tone
and not all rocks ring.

IF they are moved they dont sound the same as you will see in the vid

Even compasses go weird and phones act up so they say

Some say they could be a comet site which i doubt but what do i know?

Maybe there's something buried there its only 3 meters deep.

ANYWAY i did do a search for an existing thread and i never found one
so don't jump down my throat if its been done already

just thought id bring it to ATSers .

Yes, maryhinge, that IS a brilliant member name! I wish I had one just like it!

I think this is very cool. I may or may not be deployed with a Cat. Co. for adjusting damage on the East coast. I hope I get to be near this area so I can check it out personally. If I do, I will get more pics and dig a little deeper!

I think these would be perfect for building a Pyramid.... Ed (Leedskalnin) would love these...

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm... These are kind of interesting, but it is known that different materials do tend to vibrate, or emit frequencies. For instance the granite "Kings chamber" in the pyramid.

They could be Phonolite.
I haven't had a look at the geologic map of the area, but I reckon it's a good candidate.

Lots of iron in those rocks. You can tell by the ringing effect.

Thanks for the links explaining exactly what this is.

I've been there twice, once when I was around 11 or 12 with my family and again 7 years ago with my own family! They are absolutely amazing!! We each had a few differet "tools" to use on them (I used a hammer, metal meat tenderizer and a tire iron hehe) and each "tool" sounded different even on the same rock. When I was a child, I remember the place being just beyond creepy, downright spooky even, so I wasn't overly thrilled to take my kids there when hubby suggested it lol! However I figured it might seem a little different as an adult and it did, but not in a good way unfortunately! It's just far too quiet for being in the middle of the woods, no real sounds at all except when you're 'ringing the rocks'. It feels very much like you're in a whole other world, like how I would imagine moving into an alternate reality would be like!

By the way, it's in the Pocono Mountains, about 10 miles or so from the Pocono Speedway (NASCAR Race Track). We were there for a race and stayed in a nice little motel in between the two "attractions" lol! Don't flame me, my husband was the NASCAR fan, and since I have three boys, I was out~voted for that little family adventure hehe!

That's really cool. Wish some one would do a professional analysis of the rocks.

watching that video felt like I was playing Minecraft lol.

It's in Bucks County. There's a campground called Ringing Rocks campground and we used to camp there all the time. It's an amazing place and I've got a lot of fond memories of it. I've never thought of the place as creepy... just really damn cool!

I can play axel F on the ringing rocks. Me and the old group of friends "wasted" alot of time there
pro tip: rebar plays the rocks better

I have heard of it, about 1hr from me. I've never gone there though. Another possibility, those rocks are very close to the Delaware River,could have been deposited ages ago.. There are some other rock croppings around this area, all speculated to be from previous ice ages. I may have to take a trip to that state park one of these days.

Any idea why some ring and some dont,
Some guy on weird travels said it was because
they were touching to many to ring and yet in the clip
i put up you can clearly see people sat on them and they still ring
even one is moved and it still rings

Id still love to know what lies under them rocks
