Heres an article from the Sun newspaper showing the launch of a trident nuclear missile.

www.thesun.co.uk...

It was launched as a warning to Iran and Argentina. Im pretty sure this will do nothing to keep life peaceful. Its like slapping someone in the face and walking off knowing you have a pitbull behind you. We are rubbing it in. You dare retaliate against our unprovoked invasion and we will nuke you.

Its kind of sickening to see such an aggressive stance knowing the capabilities of nuclear weapons, and the loss of life it will cause.

The Sun is just a tabloid newspaper adding the line "warning to argies and iran" to spice it up.

Its just a regular ole test.

Surely the press should know better. Its already a pretty tense situation given the lies floating about.

Everyone seems to be doing some kind of test lately.

comparing argentina to iran.

sore losers. just because maradona single handedly decimated the england squad in '86 doesn't mean you have to nuke the entire country.

to bad che guevara isn't around, he wouldn't be so scared of a few iranians.

Well considering this has been a mainstay for sublaunched nukes for years now, I doubt it was simply a "test". As this platform has been tested and proven virually failsafe long ago.

This is like testing M-16 rounds in a no fire zone on a disputed border, there is no need of a test, it has already been fully tested, and found reliable.

It is a warning, simple saber rattling, nothing more.

One doesn't test a catapult in front of an enemies walls just to test it, they do this to send a message, anyonw who can't see that should get an appointment to the eye doctor ASAP.

That is why i left the word "test" from my OP. (its in the title, but thats from the article)

Its obvious this is provocation, sabre rattling. As you said, there is no need to test them, they know they work.

THE Royal Navy has test fired a nuclear missile in an awesome show of military strength.
The unarmed Trident II was blasted skywards by the nuke-powered submarine HMS Vigilant in the Atlantic.

How is an unarmed missile still considered a nuclear missile? I loathe misleading titles.

Just the Murdoch press and their usual cheer leading for war. Murdoch loves a good war is good for ratings and then maybe his journalists will hack th phones of the families of any dead soldiers so they can get any scoop on the war. It's all fun and games for these people. You certainly won't see the likes of any Murdoch on the battlefield.

It is way better to warn off the Argies than to actually have to nuke them isn't it?

Reemmber, after the UK recaptured the Falklands, it made it very, very clear that it won't reinvade a second time. Instead, it always keeps a nuclear sub with 8 Tridents fully armed, and targeted on Argentiina's biggest cities, so if they try to come back, the UK will simply send Argentina into the stratosphere as a FIRST line of defence.

I think the strongest message sent here is use of the phrase

... rogue nations like Argentina and Iran.

Slap someone in a box, stick a label on it which (for many) bears an official seal (MSM) then point to the label to show the validity of the decision. A pathetically circular attempt at claiming authority for your actions but, unfortunately, still effective.

Much like the Dail Mail, The Sun is a horrible rag perfectly suited for disseminating this garbage. There's even the red button "Trigger ... crewman fires" piccy. Jingoistic war porn at its finest from a paper who have a fine history of doing so.

I think there's fair truth in woodwardjnr's words above.
