This is a short story. I'm leaving out all the details to keep it short......

ONCE APON A TIME....

The year is 1754 rural Italy. A farmer and his daughter own a small farm. The bankers in the near by town have been giving mortgages and lines of credit to farmers. Then when they don't pay they take there farm. The farmer has one and is now in debt and might lose his farm to these banking elitists.

At the dinner table the daughters father laments about how he's old and has no way to try and pay back the rich bankers. About how he was tricked into getting the line of credit in the first place. About how he fears that they could lose the farm and there livelihood. About how his daughter might end up being sold into slavery to the bankers. And how he could end up a pauper or dead. And if nothing changes they don't' have much time left before they will lose everything!!!

The daughter is worried. She is trying to figure out a way to solve the problem. One day while attending to her goats, one wanders away into a small cave opening. She enters the secret cave to get her goat. She finds that the cave is quite large and is where the origins of the local town water spring are located.

She gets her goat and leaves. Later as she sits under a tree in the meadow. She remembers the stores about how slaves were used and abused. She is sad for her dad, and so angry at these awful banker loan sharks who tricked her dad, and want to ruin her life! So she comes up with a plan to get her dad out of debt and teach the rich bankers a lesson. That night she tells her father she's got a plan and that she just has to trust him.

She arrives home later. She tells her father she has a plan, not to argue and that she needs him to sell all there produce early. Sell off any extra animals they have. And borrow more from the bankers. He knew the girl had the smarts of her mother so he reluctantly agrees, knowing that if they don't do something they'll lose the farm anyway. He just puts his trust in her the way he always has during desperate times. So he sells off as much as possible, borrows, and gets as much money together as he can.

Soon after the daughter goes to the river side with some pails. She makes mortor out of clay and sand. Enters the cave with the mortor and uses it to plug the source of where the water comes from. Soon the small stream in the cave stops flowing. She's plugged up the water source that flows out of this point to the town. She then leaves the cave and carefully hides the entry point so that no one will find the cave.

Soon the town water pool starts drying up. The locals don't know what to think of it. In no time the town is in panic. They try and figure out what's wrong but can't find the source of the water, as it always came out of the hillside, nor figure out why it stopped flowing in there town collection pool.

Soon there is no more water for the town. People are panicked, they know that they have to get out of the town or they could die. Many start to leave the town to travel to other towns and cities. Many houses and businesses start to go up for sale as a result. Some at a very small fraction of there actual value.

For sale signs start showing up everywhere. Some places are abandon and the property gets foreclosed and goes up for auction at pennies on the dollar.

The farmer who had cashed in all he could has some money. So he and his daughter go to the town and stay with friends. They bring their money and approach many of the bankers that are desperate to sell off houses and businesses. The bankers worried to try and get whatever they can for these properties that they think are near worthless are willing to take whatever they can get.

So the farmer and his daughter sit down with one banker after another and buy there best deals, of houses, and businesses. Most of which the rich bankers are willing to also offer mortgages on at extremely discounted interest rates.

After the farmer and his daughter buy up all they can afford. They move into one of the houses in the town. They start to work the failing businesses they bought on the main town square. The streets that once bustled with people willing to spend lots of money are now mostly empty. As there is nearly no source of water in the town.

The daughter who now owns and operates the local variety and produce store starts to spread rumors to anyone who comes into the store. She tells anyone passing threw that she herself heard rumors that the water could come back. That everyone who left the town did so prematurely. That they need to tell all there friends in the surrounding towns and villages that the water might come back still, and that they need to be ready in case it does, as there could be renewed jobs, opportunities and commerce in her town.

Word starts to spread. Speculation is rampant. Other towns now have there eye on the girls town. Then secretly the daughter goes back to the cave where she blocked off the water source. She brings a pickaxe and chips away at the mortar. Soon the water starts to flow again! The water passes threw the small stream located in the cave. She then leaves the cave and gets rid of any signs of activity. She again covers the entry to the cave.

She runs down to the collection pool. It's filling up! There's water again. She then creeps back to her house in the town and goes back to bed. In the morning a local boy finds the town water pool full of water! He runs around the town screaming the great news! Rumor spreads and in no time the whole town is a wash in excitement, joy, renewed hope, and happiness!

They realize that the town is saved!!! They realize business will return, and property value will go back up again. So gradually word spread to all the surrounding towns that the girls town is back to normal. Business start to normalize. The girls store is now bustling with tons of customers. She has to hire some people to work the store to keep up with all the business! People are also needing to rent rooms and rents out all the rooms in the houses she has.

In no time the properties they bought for next to nothing are very valuable again. There businesses have lots of activity. The farmer and his daughter manage to pay off all there mortgages with all the income they now have.

The elitist bankers who were use to taking advantage of the locals have taken a big hit. And some have been brought to there knees!

In just a few short years the girl and her father now live a comfortable carefree life. They have income, property, businesses, no debt and are in a very well off financial position in life.

The daughter one day walking threw the meadow finds the tree that she sat under before. She sits under it again and thinks.... "Okay round one is done, time to make some more mortar and do round two!!! I'll teach those bankers never to mess with a farmers daughter!!!!" LOL

THE END

So the moral of the story is???

The "evil" bankers gave out loans to farmers and they got into debt of their own free and that makes them bad.

But the girl who cheated and manipulated every working person in the valley and caused them to lose everything they had is a "smart girl" who stuck it to the bankers?

I'm lost..........

thank's for the story, but it sound's like the girl screwed over the village worse than the bankers did.
and she did it for revenge (even though it was her fathers fault) and personal gain.
so i'm not sure what the moral of the story is.
