It seems the Eid ceasefire UN-Arab League envoy Lakhdar Brahimi has already gone asunder as 'rebels' storm government held positions in the suburbs of the capital Damascus.

There have been reports of 150+ deaths in the first day the ceasefire was broken.



The four-day ceasefire proposed by UN-Arab League envoy Lakhdar Brahimi already collapsed amid clashes, shelling and car bomb attacks hours after it had been due to take effect with the start of Eid al-Adha holidays on Friday morning.

An army statement on Sunday blamed the ceasefire's collapse on 'violations' by rebels. The rebels for their part have said they have only reacted to regime attacks.

With hopes shattered of even a temporary halt to the 19 months of bloodshed in Syria, diplomats said Brahimi is looking ahead to new efforts to tackle the crisis.


It should be quite apparent to all that this madness isn't going to end anytime soon and will take some form of external intervention to bring about any sort of prolonged cease fire in Syria, but what? NATO strike? Diplomacy? Last side standing?

Will the Syrian Assad regime be placed with full blame for the break of the Eid ceasefire? Probably but what will come of this?

The violence has already started erupting in neighboring Lebanon last week with car bombings as tension between the two major religious sects (sunni and Shi'a) clash and tension rises.
