Please enlighten me: How are any of the great world religions going to fall after December 21, given that none of them have absolutely anything to do with that date?

The only faith that's going to fall any time after December will be the "New Age Faith".

Reason as well as faith can be twisted and manipulated toward carnal and selfish desires, so if true, I doubt there will be any real changes for the better.

I guess when Thomas Paine wrote the Age of Reason he was a bit too early. Sorry we were almost there but I think it was slightly ahead of its time, where Reason and Faith were to coexist. The 18th century saw the birth of the Age of Reason but it has been beaten back severely as if Galileo himself was proclaiming once again that the solar system is heliocentric.

Why the winter solstice as the beginning? What happens then to usher in this new age of reason?

That date seems to have no reason other than some belief in pagan faith or occult belief. Give us the reason for this new age of reason.

When one is "enlightend" he is just worshipping himself.

I am well aware too of the "falling" of the church. This is predicted in the Bible—the falling away during the last days. But even when that comes to fruition, and all those fall away that will, there will still be a church; even after 12/21.
