According to PressTV , Republican congressman Connie Mack has called on the US administration to stop funding the United Nations, saying the world body should be kicked off US soil. Connie, who is the representative for Florida’s 14th congressional district, condemned the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) for its plan to send monitors to polling places across the United States on Election Day to monitor the event.

OSCE, which is registered as an NGO with the UN, will send 44 observers across America to monitor the voting centers. The organization was asked by American civil rights groups to monitor the election, after being warned of “a coordinated political effort to disenfranchise millions of Americans - particularly traditionally disenfranchised groups like minorities.”
The 45-year-old congressman stressed that the news should have outraged every American, because “the only ones who should ever oversee American elections are Americans.”

They are there as a neutral party to make sure your elections are fair and square.
If you did kick the UN out you would become a very lonely super power.

But just because one nutty congressman says they should doesn't mean they will.

Think America might end up fighting europe soon ?

Seen a lot of propaganda pointing towards it in the past few years in games movies and polotics.

The United Nations is a very corrupt and useless organization.

I do love when United Nations reports come out though. They are always good for a huge laugh.

Along with PBS, NPR, and the Department of Education, this is one organization that needs to be defunded.

They should just call themselves the United Politicians since they do not represent the true people of their countries...

Imagine that... a Florida Republican concerned about outside entities watching the elections.

~Cough.... cough.... hanging chad... cough~

This guy is actually interesting. Related to the Connie Mack of baseball fame, and also descended from several generations of prominent politicians. Oh, and his wife? Sonny Bono's ex - and a Congresswoman herself, from California. Strange stuff.

Maybe that's the key to a good marriage. She gets that coast, he gets this coast and they meet in Washington to play "married" for the lobbyists.

If this were not America - and we read of things like this - the opinions would be much different. Let a middle Eastern or African nation complain about the UN monitoring elections and... well we've used the CIA to destabilize nations for exactly the same thing.

They have no business here and the UN does need to get out of our country altogether. Get the UN out of the US and the US out of the UN.

Sounds like a plan to me. We aren't a Banana Republic and we didn't need our own Government asking them in. It's pathetic. They admitted in clear terms, they believe they have a problem THEY can't control. Well, it seems to me the FBI and even U.S. troops were needed at times in the past...such as Civil rights...to make sure our voting process was fair or BECAME fair, as it was necessary, but I do NOT recall even a passing joke about calling in OUTSIDE nationals to tell us if OUR elections were fair or not.

When the U.S. Gov actually calls internationals in on ITSELF, it's far past time those leading this government be changed. Just my thoughts.

I include Congress in that. Every one of them, now that Dr. Paul is retiring.

On behalf of the United States Government, I want to take this opportunity before the Permanent Council to extend an invitation to the OSCE participating States to observe these elections.

We welcome observation of American elections, and we have sent letters of invitation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and to the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights. We have also invited ODIHR to conduct a Needs Assessment Mission in the United States in preparation for a possible OSCE observation mission.

Within the U.S. federal system, the responsibility for organizing elections rests with state and local governments. The Department of State will therefore facilitate the Needs Assessment Mission and election observation mission, and assist ODIHR in its efforts to contact elections officials throughout the United States in connection with its organization of elections observation.

Between this and Libya, the idea there isn't a difference between them is vanishing fast. There is being a corrupt politician, and then there is simply being 100% incompatible with American values at any level. They're all corrupt. THIS outrage is something entirely different.

....I expect international people to see no problem with this. Fine. Americans ought to be ashamed if they DO NOT see an issue. It's called the Constitution and used to mean something to people like a President. In it, Sovereignty is not a concept with footnotes for exceptions.

Can anyone answer this?

HOW is the UN going t monitor?
What is the level of involvement?

If it is passive, just "exit polling", then I wouldn't mind. But if this "monitoring" involves a more active role, then I would find issue.

OSCE has observed our voting practices before as a fact finding exercise. IE to see HOW we do it.

The Dems requested the "monitoring"interference. It was supposedly so that the left wasn't disenfranchised but how can asking for proof that you are eligible to vote disenfranchisement.

Obama voted early in Chicago and guess what? He had to show his ID!!!

This isn't about the UN versus the US. It's about the US Democrats including the UN in a political game within US politics.

The UN should have seen it for what it is and refused. Instead they are taking it as an invitiation to create a precedent of being arbiters within the US political arena..

On a separate note.
I see no reason to fund the UN to the extent that the US does, or to provide permanent facilities within NYC.

US membership in the UN has no tangible benefit for US citizens. There's no reason to keep pouring money into an organization that is even more corrupt than DC.

It would appear...Texas may just arrest them outright.

Concerns among Democrats have mounted in the wake of reports that right-leaning groups, such as the Tea Party-aligned True The Vote, had plans to dispatch armies of poll-watchers seeking to root out invalid votes. Opponents warn that the volunteer "poll challengers" will engage in intimidation of legitimate minority voters who tend to vote Democratic.

In his letter, Abbott takes issue with the OSCE's supposed opposition to voter ID laws, which won't be in place in Texas after being rejected by a federal court, and adds that the group's efforts at polling places are neither needed nor acceptable.

"If OSCE members want to learn more about our election processes so they can improve their own democratic systems, we welcome the opportunity to discuss the measures Texas has implemented to protect the integrity of elections," he writes. "However, groups and individuals from outside the United States are not allowed to influence or interfere with the election process in Texas. This State has robust election laws that were carefully crafted to protect the integrity of our election system. All persons -- including persons connected with OSCE -- are required to comply with these laws."

What our own Government just did by inviting them in isn't legal. It's not LEGAL. Now they break our own laws by saying things aren't fair so they need outside help. The irony is sickening, not amusing. Not here.

We're a nation of laws or we aren't. If we aren't....let's get that right out in the open and stop just enforcing what feels good while ignoring what isn't politically convenient. The law breaking of recent years IS unprecedented. At the very least, it was never thrown in our faces and forced down the throats of the states the way it is now.

We aren't a Banana Republic

No, not yet, but depending on the definition you use its the path america is going down.

"In practice, a banana republic is a country operated as a commercial enterprise for private profit, effected by the collusion between the State and favoured monopolies, whereby the profits derived from private exploitation of public lands is private property, and the debts incurred are public responsibility. Such an imbalanced economy reduces the national currency to devalued paper-money, hence, the country is ineligible for international development-credit, and remains limited by the uneven economic development of town and country.[5] Kleptocracy, government by thieves, features influential government employees exploiting their posts for personal gain (embezzlement, fraud, bribery, etc.), with the resultant government budget deficit repaid by the native working people who earn money, rather than make money"

When you consider:

The way the government is run by and for the big banks
Accelerating wealth disparity.
The way the middle class are being hollowed out.
The massive growth in internal security apparatus
Accelerating long term currency de-valuation

You don't have to extrapolate the current course too far down the road to get there.

So having a foreign entity, enter and destabilizer another country is all fine and dandy, its in the name of corruption.
But when it happens in your backyard. they have no business being there... Hypocrites much?

It has, well unless US political establishment would like to rule the whole world which is dangerous.
There has to be consensus on the global level, one power cannot have it all.

Well the State department have warned them not to arrest them.
michellemalkin.com...

Thing is I bet most of you against this agree with monitoring other countries elections because of fraud etc, but when it is you lot being monitored you go nuts.
You became a laughing stock when Bush the 2nd came in and all the rubbish that followed, I woulda thought you would be grateful that the UN is helping you out by making sure your elections are fair.
