I'm not a soup everyday guy but there are times that you just want soup. Probably reminds us of better times when Mom(or Dad) had the time to cook. Those days are long gone, on a daily basis. So, I'm talking about soup that one buys. Let's face it, if one is a half decent cook ANY homemade soup is better than what you can buy. Oh, and no "stews". Stew isn't soup.

Later on I'll give you some suggestions for sandwiches to go with a given soup, that's the difference between soup and stew. You don't need/want a sandwich with stew. For now though we'll just look at the soups.

Beef and Barley.
Scotch broth.
French Canadian Pea.
Chicken noodle(or rice). That's a duh.
Tomato.

Hmm, does chowder count?

As long as I can remember I've hated soup. It's not that it tastes bad; it doesn't. It's just something about eating a liquid with a spoon. I'll avoid it like the plague. Call it "stew" and I'm cool.

Hmmmm....soup!

I love soup. My all time favorite is potato soup ( the cheesy kind) with a big 'ol BLT.

Great, now I have to go make some soup. My tummy is a rumblin.

Depending on the soup, the broth or cream, is where the goodies are that your body craves.

ETA: I now think that chowder DOES qualify as a soup.

The best soups are the ones that have a perfect ratio of fat and salt in them.

I also like any soup with finely grounded pepper.

Mmmmmmmmm.

My favourites are
very basic minced meat soup, good with dark rye or buckwheat bread

Goulash good with white bread

French Onion Soup

French Onion Soup with a giant slice of cheese on it...there is nothing better than pulling the really browned cheese off of the sides of the bowl...weather is getting cooler here and it's seems like it's the perfect fall soup in New England...too bad one of my sons has a dairy allergy

Come to think of it we just came back from Disney and at the restaurant near the nemo ride served a vegetable soup that had a great amount of flavor that my kids actually ate....also for some reason a ton of people were there from England...they running specials or something?

Sorry about that, but the thought of soup got my mind wandering....

I don't use recipes and I don't measure anything, but if you ever want to make some just PM me and I'll try my best to explain. But beware, you have to know what "til it looks right" means!

Poor man's pizza: Tomato soup with grilled cheese sandwiches. MMmmmm!

Lipton's chicken noodle soup just doesn't have enough chicken or noodles in it. But the broth is unbeatable, so I boil some rice and throw in all kinds of frozen vegetables. Now THAT'S a soup!

LOL I love it! Imagine a cooking show on a radio station like that.

Chef: Boil potatoes until they're just right.
Caller: What is just right?
Chef: The opposite of not right.
Caller: Oh, okay.

Chef: Bake the pie in a metal pan, and when the bottom crust is cooked, remove from oven.
Caller: How do I know when the bottom crust is cooked?
Chef: Use the force, Luke.

Yes. GC is the best. Tuna also works with tomato soup.

Yup. I was going to bring this one up. Try it before you diss it. The sandwich for this soup is peanut butter. Try it.

LOL My first response was YUCK! But, people say the same thing when I tell them that a bowl of cinnamon applesauce goes great with tunafish sandwiches. Guess I'll have to try your idea (seeing as I LOVE peanut butter).

I'm more of a stew person. Soup just doesn't do it for me.
I make an amazing beef stew that literally takes all day to cook to perfection.
I wish I could make chicken stew w/ dumplings like my mom used to make.. *drools

Yup. It works.

For vegetable ham & cheese is best. Pea soup is strictly bread and butter.
