Well I would certainly go to see the psychiatrist or psychologist, whichever they are referring you to, as it does sound like the doctor is going in a new direction but I'm not a medical professional so I don't really want to give any opinions. I'm sure your doctor has your best interest in mind and it never (OK usually doesn't) hurt to try something new.

Here in the states they've also started to use the antipsychotics for people with depression as well though usually paired with an SSRI.

I was given Abilify for a while a few years ago as treatment for depression it's also an antipsychotic. I don't really think I was on it long enough for it to have helped any depression symptoms as those usually take a little while to get going and I had to stop taking it because of severe akathisia.
