I am genuinely confused about this idea. I've noticed that the media is now throwing around the word anarchist, and accusing people that wear black clothing and listen to rock music. What is that? A person's music choice, and choice of clothing now determines their political standing, or lackthereof? There are many people in the country that choose to remain non-partisan. Not because they wish to have an anarchist state, but because they recognize the validity of ideals in several parties. That doesn't make us fascist, and it doesn't make us an anarchist. There are also many people in the country that feel our government has wandered too far from it's original mandate.

If you wear black and listen to rock music chime in on this. Rock and roll was the music of peace, not anarachy.

Is this a result of those stupid black bloc kids?

The dictate for Halloween protesters to bring masks may be telling. In May, Adbusters announced a shift in Occupy tactics away from routine protests and toward anarchy actions, including what is known as Black Bloc tactics.

Black Bloc is a tactic in which protesters wear black clothing, scarves, ski masks, motorcycle helmets with padding or other face-concealing items. Black Bloc anarchists use the concealment to commit violent or illegal acts.

I wear black frequently (it is very slimming) and I listen mostly to rock music. How could someone assume that makes me an Anarchist? I am a Republican leaning toward Libertarian.

I guess they saw the tatoos and that just sealed the deal for them!

Guess I'm screwed. But I lean more towards Death Metal, Grindcore, etc.
But I LOVE The CURE, SIOUXSIE AND THE BANSHEES, SKINNY PUPPY, MINISTRY, and some others.
I always wear all black. Everyday.

I listen to a huge load of old school rap though too. WU TANG, BROTHA LYNCH, MR. DOC, NAS (old stuff) and some others...
I think they should be more afraid of the "gangstas" that are into anarchy... (which most likely is all)

Youtube this song.... (pretty dope for new school stuff)

I'm not making a point about music. I'm making a point about labeling.

I came on ATS today to find some information on the so called "super storm" headed towards D.C. I didn't find anything on ATS but I did find that article about Black Bloc's plans after I got distracted. I'm glad I did because I work in D.C. and I'll be rushing home after work and laying low. If these heathens really are going to storm D.C. that combined with the storm (assuming it's what they say it is) may make things scary.

I guess this year I'll be one of those mean people that don't open the door for trick or treaters. Better safe than sorry right?

Stereotypes exist, its a fact of life and will never change, no matter how many laws are made or how much people try to "shame" others into not having them.
Just like "All blacks like Rap"
"All southerners are redneck racists"

Seriously, who cares

I guess I feel like that "labeling" crap is a bunch of BS.
Didn't they already come out and say if you have a few weeks worth of food in your cabinets, and you seem to be a Ron Paul supporter, etc. that you might be a Terrorist???
So you think they are stereotyping all people who wear black and listen to rock music that they may indeed be an anarchist? BUMP

If anything, wearing all black and ski masks/masks/hats... around my parts that's gang related homeboy. it's called being "murdered out"... Ready to rob or blast someone. NAAWWWW SAYYINNNN?

It becomes a bit more than a stereotype when it's said on national airwaves in a national newscast. Even the Fox reporter that had to read it, tripped on the word.

I think this is completely ridiculous. I'm a metal head listen to black metal, death metal, Melodic metal, etc. and I wear black everyday. I think this is just another stereotype/ scare tactic they're trying to use to create more separation, animosity and hatred amongst us to keep us forever divided. They are in a state of fear grasping at straws becuase they are coming to the realization that many people are waking up to their bullsh!t. So they are trying to distract us by coming up with all this load of crap to keep us fighting amongst ourselves and distracted from their bullsh!t. They are evening doing this with veterans who are speaking out against them labeling them extremist and jailing them because they no if SHTF the veterans would be the first in line to oppose them.

Anarchy IS peace. I understand that what you think of as anarchy is what the media and the govt. has made you belive, do some research. Anarchy is life, life and peace.

I think I was in the 1st grade when I learned this lesson:

Anarchists wear black and listen to rock music, but not all people that wear black and listen to rock music are anarchists.

Here's another one for you:

Ignorant people author threads on ATS, but not all thread authors on ATS are ignorant.

Here, have another:

All squares have 90-degree angles, but all shapes with 90-degree angles are not squares.

It's called an indicator folks, not a certainty. People that wear black and listen to rock music are not being labeled as anarchists.

Actually, those are called "policemen."

I saw a video of Obama singing an Al Greene song, and he is always wearing a dark suit. Yep, definately an anarchist.

Anarchy isn't peace. It's millions of small wars as people struggle to survive. I'm not sure how you can think anarchy is peaceful?

As I said..or more correct, as I wrote, you think of anarchy in the ways the media and the govt. to make you belive.

This isn't true at all. Rock and roll or rather the term was invented to distinguish white performers doing what is called "Jump Blues" which was mostly done by black people. It was a form of anti-establishment. It wasn't until the mid to late 60's that rock music became more about peace. But even then rock and roll has always had a long tradition of going against the norm. Its easy to see how people would make the jump to anarchy especially when you include punk music, death metal, hard rock, etc and the old stereotype that the bad guys always wear black.
history of rock and roll

This is just another case of old people not understanding younger people and their styles. Nothing to really worry about.

An interesting set of indicators that would fit most of us.

Not exactly. I think of anarchy as what happens when a natural disaster hits an area and everyone immediately starts looting everything. We have seen what can happen on a small scale throughout history. Why would we believe it would be any different on a wider scale?

This is correct, most people know nothing of Anarchism. Many anarchists believe in pacifism and it is not what the media would like you to think. Most people think of anarchy as a post apocalyptic collection of violent tribes with no rules, raping, stealing, and killing.(MSM/Governments want people to be afraid of Anarchism just as they'd like you to fear Socialism of any kind.)

Anarchy is simply a form of self governence like direct democracy or social libertarianism. The main focus that all authority is assumed to be illegitimate unless it proves its legitimacy. Any government or authority grouped deemed illegitimate must be dismantled. In an anarchy society our government would have been deemed waaaaaay illegitimate in serving its people.

Do you really want people like Charles Manson and James Holmes free to govern themself? I don't! It might work if everyone was capable of governing themselves, but they can't even govern themselves in our current society that has baby bumpers on every sharp edge of life.

I think the media is generalizing anarchists as the rage against the machine fanbois who wear all black and cry about the plight of the south americans.

More like the plight of Mexican Americans/Mexicans.
RATM - Without a face.

Check that song.
PS... Rage Against The Machine was awesome.
