The BCFL wants the provincial and federal governments to investigate concerns over the hiring of 200 Chinese workers to work in an underground coal mine near Tumbler Ridge.

Concerns include how the workers were recruited and whether or not Canadian miners were given a fair chance to work at the mine first.

HD Mining International, the company developing the coal mine, received 300 applications and interviewed nearly 100 Canadian workers, but none were qualified to work in the mine, said vice-president Jody Shimkus.

Wow talk about losing your job to China!

Tumbler Ridge was a big mess the last time Japan made a deal with us to mine it and now this

I think it's sad to admit that I was moreso happy that this was about a worker issue of "fairness" over what I originally thought after having watched 2012 a couple of days ago, lol!

There will always be struggles such as this in the labor force. What's fair, who gets hired, etc. I honestly think almost the entire labor market anywhere you go is a big joke quite honestly.

It should be law that if you are going to rape a country of it's resources you should at least hire some locals to do the work

This I can agree with whole-heartedly, lol. It kind of reminds me of all of the fracking down here in the United States, but at least it's mostly our own people destroying everything searching for oil. I'm still trying to wrap my head around just as to WHY they only hired the Chinese though. I'm trying to sort of figure out the underneath between the lines answer here to this.
