NO DESTRUCTIVE WIDESPREAD TSUNAMI THREAT EXISTS BASED ON
HISTORICAL EARTHQUAKE AND TSUNAMI DATA.

HOWEVER - EARTHQUAKES OF THIS SIZE SOMETIMES GENERATE LOCAL
TSUNAMIS THAT CAN BE DESTRUCTIVE ALONG COASTS LOCATED WITHIN
A HUNDRED KILOMETERS OF THE EARTHQUAKE EPICENTER. AUTHORITIES
IN THE REGION OF THE EPICENTER SHOULD BE AWARE OF THIS
POSSIBILITY AND TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION.

Santa Ana, Costa Rica - Long, rolling earthquake. It seemed to last a long time. Mal Pais - Very loud noise like thunder then shaking for about 20 seconds. Ran outside and ground was rippling. St. Teresa, Costa Rica - Woah!

Probably be a little bit before we know more.. praying everyone is ok and nothing bigger is on the horizon!

My best wishes go to them....very much so. Costa Rica is a beautiful nation and a warm and friendly people. This isn't the first for them but the location had to hurt. I hope the impact is minimal.

You beat me to it by a couple of seconds, Wrabbit. The intensity map doesn't look strong, butthere are strong aftershocks that are shallower, so it bears watching.

It's like the earth is playing ping pong. Do any of you believe that the Moon has any effect on seismic activity? I have been following patterns that suggest it does. It does seem that there is an increase in seismic activity that occurs when the Moon is transitioning into the Full moon stage. Not sure if it is a coincidence. That particular quake that occurred in Costa Rica it appears the Moon was due west and that there was an alignment of Jupiter, Mercury, Mars, Uranus, Saturn, Venus and the Sun below the horizon. Very strong energy in my opinion.
