Thankyou for your wishes, I as an ass that fought in combat so you you can say that, thank you. At least it was worth it, so you can slag me me off with impunity. If you go back to the OP he whinges about walking 1/12 miles a week for free money. Kids walk further than that every day just to drink occasionally fresh water ! Lets just let the OP swap places with them. I have no problem with my taxes helping the needy, and wish you well and prayers for your dilema.But do not assume because I have a brain I have never suffered. I just choose to deal with it.

mate its just as bad over here in Australia, we have almost identical laws regarding this very thing and i agree it is a very fine line these days with the work for the dole schemes going on around the world. but the simply fact is its the minority of people on the dole bludging, which is becoming a lot more then a minority that are causing the government to make drastic changes.
also most of these schemes arn't as bad as they are made out to be. i have done them and the ones i had to do at least gave me skills i didn't have that i could use in finding a job and at the end of the course gave me extra credits to use towards courses for study at tafe/etc so i would hardly call it slave labor.

the problem is that most people out of uni etc have a standard and wont do #-kicker jobs. most cities have hundreds of fast food restaurants always looking for work but people feel like this is worse then being homeless working at a place like that? the jobs are there but peoples standards are too high.

If those 'schit-kicker' jobs paid a decent living wage maybe more people would want to do them.

Employers could easily afford to make crappy jobs more attractive by paying a bit extra, then they'd have no problem filling them.

The thing is in this country, it's ok for employers to be greedy and to expect cheap labour, and it's ok for them to avoid paying sick pay and holiday pay to employees, by using only agency workers long term who never get taken on permanently - but condemn normal people for not queuing up to get covered in schit for a wage they can't live on.

Employers contribute to the vast amount of benefit claims because people who work for them still need to claim benefits. The government should send a 'benefit bill' to all claimants' employers, because working people should be paid enough to live on, and not have to claim benefits at all.

You do have a point to get angry about. It is difficult, these days, to say anything without it being construed as racist or xenophobe but a big chunk of the unemployment issue is down to uncontrolled migration and bias towards migrant workers. It does seem unfair that some people get a lot of what we can't get without ever spending a day here prior to signing on.

The same problem can also be linked to, although not the sole cause of, many other crumbling services in Britain; too many people want or need to use them. That doesn't mean that they should be condemned for that, its the government's fault for allowing the situation to arise. I think they can all examine their consciences on that one, Tory and Labour.

I was in and out of work for a couple of years and had to sign on numerous times....until it got to the point where I was turning up just to get my stamp signed because they wouldn't pay me anything due to my girlfriend earning a full-time wage (she was expected to pay for my living...)

After weeks of going without them finding me a job I pretty much told them where to shove and decided to venture down another route instead that actively allows me to avoid the job centre altogether.....I went self-employed at the start of this year as a Web Developer.....things have been steady so far (had a couple of jobs on the go), but by doing this you can claim working tax credits which boosts you up to a full time wage.

Maybe this is an option for you? I'm not sure. Just putting it out there.

We spent the day learning the new rules today, boy I'd love to tell you some stuff, alas I'm not allowed - we've had journalists ringing galore asking for the lastest Job Seeking stats..

All I'll say from a non professional view is:

1) You've been on JSA for over twelve months - do you exspect not to have to attend?
2) I'm completely against the ILLEGAL slave labour program
3) 90% of my clients are Asian foreigners - Makes my job a pain in the ass with all their dodgey names!!

Ive had enough, the fekin nhs is going down quicker than the lusitania
so many peoples lifes are at a knife edge and more crimes will be done due to hunger and homeless

OP a job is a job ok it pays money and I know for a fact old folks homes want male assistants, you could get one tomorrow, you just have to have to wipe bums and look after people who are wonderful, once you have wiped one bum you have wiped them all .
I tell all my noobs that and as the only male in my place of work I love all the attention from my female co-workers and my little old dears .
We have employed many males but they only last one day or so thinking that it is beneath them etc.
I get a lot of job satisfaction because I know I'am doing something good, yeah it is min wage but man in this day and age any job whatever you do gives you a sense of pride.
The problem I see is some people think a certain type of job is beneath them, open your mind to the caring proffesion and it will give you inner peace .

if you receive certain benefits under the umbrella of universal credit, there will be a minimum income floor (as they call it) that you will have to earn in order to qualify for certain benefits. failure to reach an assumed number of hours with an assumed hourly rate, will require you to attend courses and job interview appointments as they will imo construe your self-employed (or lack of) earnings as unacceptable.

search for keywords : self-emplyment+universal credit+minimum income floor+whatever else is related. look into the welfare bill recently pushed through parliament.
