Trick or Treaters beware..... Halloween costumes may be hazardous to your health....

FREEDOM, Pa. (AP) — Police say a costumed 9-year-old girl was accidentally shot outside a western Pennsylvania home during a Halloween party by a relative who thought she was a skunk.

New Sewickley Township police say the girl was over a hillside and wearing a black costume and a black hat with a white tassel. Chief Ronald Leindecker told the Beaver County Times that a male relative mistook her for a skunk and fired a shotgun, hitting her in the shoulder, arm, back and neck Saturday night.

Leindecker told the newspaper that the girl was alert and talking when she was flown to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, about 30 miles away. Her condition was unavailable.

And no, the guy had not been drinking. That was my first thought.
Maybe he just needs better glasses, like night vision glasses.

That sure would have been one big azz skunk!!!

Perhaps people should have more self control?

Who the hell shoots at a skunk? I live out in the suburbs and we get a lot of raccoons, skunks and even the rare coyote and I have never had problems with them. I just leave them alone and they leave on their own.

People need to have more self control instead of shooting at anything that moves.

Freedom PA. ironic name in that If you feel threatened by a skunk or anything that moves you are free to shoot at it.
Note to some people : Life is not a Bugs Bunny cartoon.

"Oh my gosh hunny.....I think there's a skunk in our yard...this thing could kill us all within a nanosecond.... what do we do?"

..."Dont worry, I'll blow its brains out with my 12 gauge"

.....Seriously? Shotgun vs a skunk? Jeez. Did this guy not even look to make sure it was a skunk, and not a....person!?!?

Going out on a limb here, but in my personal opinion, a skunk doesnt exactly fit/look the same, as the build of a human

This guy needs to go to jail
Thank god she wasn't killed, btw the link in the OP wouldn't work me I had to google the story.

What a moron.

How do you mistake a human, for a skunk.

And he's her relative?

Is this a real life Specsavers advert or what? This guy definitely should have gone. And anyway, as stated above. Why would you feel the need to fire your shotgun at a skunk? Hopefully next time he'll forget which way round the gun goes and blow his own shoulder off.

At least if he'd been drunk it would have made a little more sense. Hopefully it was just bird shot and the little girl wont suffer any permanent physical problems. I'd say something's wrong with the guy anyway. Who goes out of their way to kill a skunk?

Know your target and beyond.

This guy needs to have all his guns taken away and spend a few years in jail for stupidity.

How do you confuse a girl in a costume with a skunk?

Okay two things.

One, I need to see this skunk costume that apparently looked so much like a real skunk.

Two, where the hell do you live that you have skunks the size of a 9 year old? I've seen some huge racoons, but even then, they are only the size of a 3-4 year old.
