Death By Defibrillator: FDA Called to Address Hacking Risk

According to a recent report by the Government Accountability Office (GAO), a non-partisan agency that works for Congress, ...there’s a growing danger that grandpa’s heart rhythm device, or, say, a child’s insulin pump – any implantable device that can be accessed remotely -- could be susceptible to hacking.

Medical devices controlling insulin, heart rhythm and other vital functions can be hacked. Death by hacking leaves no evidence of murder; the devices are not regulated for security.

Accidents happen, like when your garage door opener opens the wrong door, or walking through an airport security device makes your insulin pump bugger your metabolism.

Murder might not be a huge risk, but maybe someone is getting impatient about their inheritance. Or maybe Dad can't cover his kids' medical costs any more and he's looking for a way out. Never mind those pesky political conspiracies - no need to arrange any plane crashes these days.

My advice? Stay young, healthy and free, and avoid the need for medical care.

Scary stuff. This sounds like a good plot for a movie.

Yes it does.

I'd go with a few accidents, a few murders by individuals with a variety of motivations, topped off with mass murder by an insurance company killing off clients who are accessing coverage and lowering the profit margin.
