Nuclear bombs on Japan? 100% worth it. Without a doubt.

No sir, you are completely wrong:

The U.S. Strategic Bombing Survey group, assigned by President Truman to study the air attacks on Japan, produced a report in July of 1946 that concluded (52-56):

Based on a detailed investigation of all the facts and supported by the testimony of the surviving Japanese leaders involved, it is the Survey’s opinion that certainly prior to 31 December 1945 and in all probability prior to 1 November 1945, Japan would have surrendered even if the atomic bombs had not been dropped, even if Russia had not entered the war, and even if no invasion had been planned or contemplated.

General (and later president) Dwight Eisenhower – then Supreme Commander of all Allied Forces, and the officer who created most of America’s WWII military plans for Europe and Japan – said:

The Japanese were ready to surrender and it wasn’t necessary to hit them with that awful thing.

Newsweek, 11/11/63, Ike on Ike

Eisenhower also noted (pg. 380):

In [July] 1945… Secretary of War Stimson, visiting my headquarters in Germany, informed me that our government was preparing to drop an atomic bomb on Japan. I was one of those who felt that there were a number of cogent reasons to question the wisdom of such an act. …the Secretary, upon giving me the news of the successful bomb test in New Mexico, and of the plan for using it, asked for my reaction, apparently expecting a vigorous assent.

During his recitation of the relevant facts, I had been conscious of a feeling of depression and so I voiced to him my grave misgivings, first on the basis of my belief that Japan was already defeated and that dropping the bomb was completely unnecessary, and secondly because I thought that our country should avoid shocking world opinion by the use of a weapon whose employment was, I thought, no longer mandatory as a measure to save American lives. It was my belief that Japan was, at that very moment, seeking some way to surrender with a minimum loss of ‘face’. The Secretary was deeply perturbed by my attitude….

Admiral William Leahy – the highest ranking member of the U.S. military from 1942 until retiring in 1949, who was the first de facto Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and who was at the center of all major American military decisions in World War II – wrote (pg. 441):

It is my opinion that the use of this barbarous weapon at Hiroshima and Nagasaki was of no material assistance in our war against Japan. The Japanese were already defeated and ready to surrender because of the effective sea blockade and the successful bombing with conventional weapons.

The lethal possibilities of atomic warfare in the future are frightening. My own feeling was that in being the first to use it, we had adopted an ethical standard common to the barbarians of the Dark Ages. I was not taught to make war in that fashion, and wars cannot be won by destroying women and children.

I am not fearful, I just see what is in front of me. You have been conditioned to feel like this. They have trained America to fear the Middle East, to support Middle Eastern conquest. You do not need facts or reason, you just need to be told.

Libya has been a strategic target for a long time. Donald Rumsfeld and the others had their eyes set on the Middle East long ago. You are truly blind and ignorant if you do not see that our Middle Eastern policy has led to the death of millions of innocent people. I am truly saddened that we, as a people, do not stand up to the corruption that leads us into wars and unite under the goal of world peace.

Israel is not our ally. Make that clear. They have done nothing that has shown that they are our ally, while we have done everything. One day you will see that the government is no longer our friend.

Yet you choose to ignore all the other people who were quoted in the link I provided.

You failed to grasp the context of that post in the other thread Slayer, it must of went way over your head but thanks for twisting my words

This appears to be another one of your off topic deflections.

ETA:

I would appreciate it if you would please post the link to that thread so we can see what led up to that comment because it is unfair for you to show my one post withouth allowing our fellow members to get the proper context of the discussion you were refering to.

Thanks

And you bothered to make this a post, why? Bet you could find a number of other countries -- Muslim one's if that's your thing -- that would like Pakistan or Iran (should the latter develop a bomb) to give them the bomb as well. And if you think Iran would do so, i.e. give bomb technology away to some Arab/Sunni-Muslim country, then you have little understanding of the politics in the Middle East.

Dear Beezer,

Perhaps if more countries that America considers an enemy, or threat, have the bomb then America (and its allies) wouldn't get away with so many wars of profit.

I am more in fear of the US of A than Iran, Syria or Egypt. Let's face it there have been quite a few examples of wars instigated under extremely dubious pretence in the last century.

Interesting topic matter, star for that.

Cheers,
T

They dont have to do anything. Why? Because we voluntarily " promised " given our WORD to protect them. They are surrounded by Muslim countries that wish to utterly destroy them. They are a democratic nation that have been stifled, killed, and conquered for many generations.

They have finally reclaimed Jerusalem and have gotten their " Home " back. We also helped them do this. Why would we NOT help the culture / civilization we protected and fostered in America. They now have a home, they are an " offspring " of America. They are to be protected.

I dont know about you, but i NEVER give my word unless i intend to keep it. However, i am old fashioned.

People seem to forget. " Never again "

The cemetery is full of a dead hero's, but guess what? There will be a lot more, if i am one of them, so be it, but i am willing to die for my beliefs, rights, and nation.

Peace is not mine to give, so i do not look for it. In peace, prepare for war.

Peace is but an illusion. It is not real, and it NEVER EVER lasts. Ever. War is the only truth.

Well put it this way, it's all well and good for now, but what happens if you were to say, annihilate iran tomorrow in the interests of an ally. What would that achieve? What would happen afterwards.

Would your nation change its views and ideology of the world? Would they stop? or would they continue until they are everyone's enemy? I see what you're saying. I'm assuming you're saying that it is survival of the fittest out there, but all i can see is a future where you think you will come out on top - when in actual fact, it's debatable what kind of future you will have with this current attitude.

Look at nazi germany. I'm sure they didn't envisage their fall any time soon during their peak - yet it was all over within years.

History has a tendency to repeat itself

To be fair though, i can see your avatar, and noticed you're from a southern state of america. Quite obviously you love your country. And that's how it comes out. And i admire your love for your country - but seriously, look at history. National Socialism doesn't have a track record of working in a world of opposing views. America may feel like the responsible one now, but how would they go on a world stage? Especially considering russia's view on what they are doing?

We will continue for as long as we have God's favor / blessing. If you do not believe in God, then we will continue until one day we fall ( as all empires do) or ... we miraculously overcome flags, boundaries, and cultures (which i do not see happening any time soon).

Thou shalt not kill.

Not thou shalt not kill unless you feel like killing them, or you think they should be killed, or your politicians tell you they should be killed, or the banking cartel want to own their banking system so you're told to kill.

It's a rather simple edict, it's one of the 10 commandments, so IF there is a God he probably despises you all for having not followed one of his primary rules.

=)

Pretty simple really.

A God that supports this kind of war, this kind of death and destruction, is a cruel God that nobody on this Earth needs. Judaism, Islam and Christianity are one in the same. They are the Abrahamic religions, your vehement opposition is ironic

The simple truth is economic viability. If I posted 100 links citing how corporations were the ones that had benefited from our foreign affairs, citing how the presidents have received various directives to invade countries in the Middle East, citing how we have been mislead and lied to in order for us to acquiesce, would that wake you up?

Only 812 people were polled, and half of them were women so I'm not sure if that qualifies them as the Muslim Brotherhood, just a hunch on my behalf.

The poll of 812 Egyptians, half of them women, was conducted in a series of in-person interviews by the firm Greenberg Quinlan Rosner and sponsored by the Israel Project, a pro-Israel advocacy organization with offices in Washington and Jerusalem. According to the poll, Iran is viewed favorably in Egypt, with 65 percent of those surveyed expressing support of the decision to renew Egypt-Iran relations and 61 percent expressing support of the Iranian nuclear project, versus 41 percent in August 2009.

If you read through the thread you will probably come to the conclusion that this is propaganda with an obvious agenda from a pro Israeli group.

Thing is, FF... the age of nukes, in all their splendid variety, is here. There's big ol' hydrogen bombs, suitcase bombs and tactical nukes ready to fire out of a cannon. It's like a cornucopia of deadly goodies out there and only a matter of time before those with enough hard cash will get their bloody hands on them. That field of expertise was sown 70 years ago and, in another 30, I'd bet nearly every country on the planet will reap some type of nuclear weapon for tyheir own arsenal, whether they buy them or manufacture them. Is it a good thing? Hell, no... but once the genie is out of the bottle, it's no good trying to stuff it back in.

Um .. no. I've read that junk about 'japan was ready to surrender' before. It's hogwash. I was in the Army and stationed in Japan for three years .. 1983-1986. I worked with Japanese people who lived through the war. I visited Hiroshima. They absolutely were NOT going to surrender. Ever. And the population of Japan was one big war machine. Even the little kindergardeners would go to school half a day and then go work in bullet factories the other half of the day.

The bomb drop was totally justified.
It was the only way to stop the war at the lowest risk to American lives.
Japan started the war and it picked on the wrong country.
America ended the war in the best way possible for America - as it should be.
It's just that simple.

What?

Are you saying women are too ignorant or stupid to understand the movement? I'd rethink that obvious bias if I were you if you are. Not that I agree with or support their movement but, The MB has only been operating in Egypt since 1928. I'm sure a few women have heard their husbands, fathers, uncles, brothers or sons etc etc etc discussing it and may have an opinion about it.

Founding in Egypt

Founding Hassan al-Banna founded the Muslim Brotherhood in the city of Ismailia in March 1928 along with six workers of the Suez Canal Company, as a Pan-Islamic, religious, political, and social movement.

I was just responding to Beezzers opening post. He said 'Egypt wants the bomb'. The leadership of 'Egypt' is the Muslim Brotherhood. Thinking of the hard core Muslim Brotherhood wanting 'the bomb' ... that doesn't give the warm fuzzies. Their website is dedicated to Sharia ... as a woman I find that frightening. I'd think any homsexuals out there would be frightened as well. Ditto non-Muslims. Their motto is .. Islam is the solution. My thinking .. hardcore religion (pick one) is the PROBLEM.

Just finished reading it ... Nowadays you can't believe any 'polls' or what is in the news. This could be true. It could be propaganda. But something inside me says that I wouldn't doubt it for a minute that the Muslim Brotherhood would LUV 'the bomb'. Any extremist group would.

God didn't say ... 'thou shalt not protect yourself'.
And in the Old Testament ... 'God' supposedly gave lots of killing orders.
If you want to quote 'God' in the bible .. you might want to quote all of what He supposedly says.
And he's not exactly a peaceful 'God' in scripture.

Sure. I hear ya. It's just that I'd rather push the acquisition date for these extremist groups out as far as possible. Be it radical islamic groups or fundamentalist christian whackos who want to blow up abortion clinics or WHOEVER ... I'd just like to keep 'the bomb' from them as long as possible. Ya' know???
