Not so long back there was always a thread talking about strange rumbling sounds coming from the sky. Has this phenomenon now ceased to be or have people just stopped reporting it? This is a very interesting subject in my opinion because there is a variety of things we can attribute this too. The most outlandish theory would be that it is caused by alien ships, but I am more inclined to believe it is caused by atmospheric effects of some kind.

Did we ever get to the bottom of this?

I don't know if they did, but I'd like to share that on two different days, at different times of the day there has been an odd noise around here. It's a loud percussion sound that is extremely rapid. Like BOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOM. No pause in between and you could say almost sounds like multiple explosions going off at near the same time. Like if you had 50 large explosives in-line on a det chord and lit it. Then after a long string of these rapid loud booms there will be a brief pause...like maybe 2 or 3 seconds and it will start again.

It first happened on Tuesday night (it was either Tuesday night or Wednesday night). We were in our house and you could hear/feel it. We stepped out on the porch and listened until it finally stopped happening. There were several series of the rapid booms separated by short periods of silence.

Then it happened again yesterday afternoon. I was at work and was outside talking to another employee and it was going on and we both heard it. The other lady said she had heard the other night as well. Her and her SO were in the house together and could hear that night.

Don't know what it is.

So it was proven to be a hoax?

That is exactly what I was thinking. It was kinda fun at first, this idea of something "strange" happening in the skies over the world...but they just became obvious hoaxes. Maybe one in the hundreds or thousands was legit, but it got lost in the fakery.

I hear booms all the time, either it is fireworks or a gun shot. Your explanation sound just like fireworks though.

I heard the creepy horn sound one night, it was a train. But I'm sure there is someone in this town that heard it and would go on to say how they heard the creepy horn sound in the sky.

The youtube videos were a complete hoax though, the audio was too crisp, and you could tell it was a separate auto track added to the video.

They would have to be really big fireworks. See we heard it at our home that evening and the lady at work (and her supervisor who came over and joined the conversation) all heard that night as well. My work, where we heard it yesterday, is 8 miles from where I live. The supervisor who heard on it on the first night lives 20 miles northeast (probably about 15 miles in a straight line) from where we work. So from my house to her house, it is almost 30 miles.

That's not a very localized sound area. And when they were describing what they heard they described as sounding as loud as it was when we were listening yesterday, and what my husband and I heard that night, so it was NOT faint for them versus us.

Just because of some juveniles doesn't mean the phenomena has ceased.Or in fact adequately explained to start with.I know I've never heard of the like in recorded history.

I flagged your thread because not so very long ago I asked myself this question too. It is not a hoax I belief but something very real for obvious reasons. The obvious part being hearing it myself and the fact that the weird sounds have disappeared from practically many "corner" of the world. There are not that many reports about them.

Whether the youtube videos were a hoax or not I dont know. However, about a month ago me and my fiends were hanging out at the park and we all heard noises that sounded very similar to one of the videos I saw. It wasnt the weird humming but rather a series of what sounded like explosions. It lasted for about 10-15 minutes and slowly petered off. It sounded very much like a distant battleground. Much like the background noise in Call of duty minus the machine gun fire. We were all kinda scared and thought war had broken out in the streets. When we went home we checked the news and there was nothing. However there was two separate sections of street closed off by the police, but there was a shooting and a car accident that had occurred so it was probably that. I had always believed those sounds were a hoax until I heard that.

Then, just the other morning (about 4 am) I heard a couple of random booms that sounded kinda like a meteor entering the atmosphere or something. Its been just bugging me to not have found what the sources of these sounds were.

Anyone else experience something similar?

(Btw, I live in Se Portland, Oregon)

I must admit I have heard strange whurring sounds in the sky myself but never significantly out of place for me to say that it was anything other than man made. Interesting none the less.

First time I heard the strange rumbling sounds was way back in the late 70's so its not a new thing, but only a few folks notice it. And when you ask others if they can hear that rumbling sound they look at you like your crazy. Happened to me when I was 17. That was thirty-three years ago. So its not really a new thing. never figured out what it was. best of luck.

So you didn't hear it, that makes it a hoax.

Well I'm very skeptical and use Oxham's razor a lot, but when they called me one night to ask if I could hear that strange sound, I went outside and I heard it. No booms, just a strange metallic type of sound. I've heard it a lot since then. Tried to get to the bottom of it, no success.

I got kind of used to it.

Then a few days ago I listened to a meditation tape, - binaural sounds - and on the background was almost the same sound.

So maybe someone put some enormous amplifier here in my part of the Netherlands and treated us a night of music.

I just had to add that not all of them are a hoax because I seen several news videos that were reporting "strange sounds heard around the world". So some of them must be real

Can be seen at the beginning of this nice 2012 doom porn video.

Very possible. What is the best way to discredit an idea or a phenomena? Flood the web with obvious hoaxes and then the average person will think they are all hoaxes and give up on researching it.

I never heard the sounds but I really didn't dismiss them till the waves and waves of obvious fakes came out. I gave up on them because it was impossible to determine which ones might be something special and which ones were not.

Sky sounds...an update?

Here's a thread from a few months back. One of the replies had a great series of YouTube videos debunking some of the sounds.

Thanks, I do find it a little discomforting that there has been so much attention on discrediting these sounds and debunking them that it makes me think there is actually more to it.

Hoax? The noises were reported everywhere, even across the UK - Including my local area.

Some where connected to sonic booms created by a few months worth of Jets jambling around - Chasing UFO's and "Helicopters".

www.thesun.co.uk...

Actually in 2010/11 - Many people observed jets in pursuit of UFOS.
(This was reported in The Sun, although I haven't located the article yet)
www.youtube.com...

And me and friends have witnessed the same:
(scroll right on the photo)
www.abovetopsecret.com...

Dunno if there is any connection there..?

I can't speak for the rest of the world - but to me, those noises were a popular global occurrence.

There were also many reports that these "booms" were from various jets on regular flights, but there are inconsistencies in take off time and correlations between the that and the time of the boom.

In regards to the hoaxes, I think they have just jumped on the band wagon of the very recent, *real* booms due to increased air activity.
