I hope I'm correct in thinking the final election is Monday..?

Surprisingly I haven't heard an awful lot about it.

Anyway, I'm just wondering - who's getting your vote, and why?

Nope. It's November 6th this year. It's always the first week of November.

As for who I am voting for?

Gary Johnson because he is on the ballot in all 50 states. Otherwise Jill Stein would get my vote.

Ahh, I haven't heard of Johnson. I really should take out more time to get to know Americans politicians - I currently focus on "Think tankers".

Any idea what election is in on Monday? If any at all? That's all the news I caught from sky on my lunch break

In fact - Does anyone want to give me a quick run down on American politics?

Including main players, main parties, agendas, and current and foreseeable status?

Sorry, I know it's the lazy way of learning aha.

ETA: Barely anything makes it through to the UK, apart from big headlines such as the Romney video.

Quite sad to think the general populations of each allied nation barely know each other..

Sure here is the run down...

We don't get to pick what happens.. The Candidates who seem to know where America should go next are hardly ever shown in the msm at all..

We're screwed again..

The End.

ps. that is the same kind of "News" we get about our own country about our own "leaders"

Ron Paul WOULD of had my vote because he was the only candidate that had true reasoning and understanding of not only our Economy, But just simple practical things.

I find that things are made way to complicated and this is where we get our problems from.

He was the only candidate that looked at things pretty much the same way I did.

If it doesn't harm anyone, Then there is money to be made. In a safe and libertarian society.

We would of been harvesting Cannabis, Opiates, and Many other natural products. The states would of brought in the money. Jobs would of been created from industries that were left alone by Federal Government; Not the feds creating money and jobs out of thin air.

It would of been amazing to see America the way this man envisioned it.

The word prosperity wouldn't be so farfetched right now.

However you still have the fluoride drinking individuals that think Obama and Romney have a clue.

Well let me tell you this. The person you vote for, Is he removing the Federal Reserve system that enslaves the Americans ability to be prosperous? Due to fiat currencies and illegal buyouts of other countries?

That right there alone, Should be enough for you not to vote for any of those bozos.

"The true patriot will repeal the patriot act".

Who do you think was the last President of the USA, who wasn't poisoned by corruption?

What has changed from the days of the founders to its current day? Was the political system doomed from its inception, 1913 (onwards), or more recently?

How did the public allow so much corruption?

From my point of view I see a lot of wise angry Americans seeking change.

Do you feel change will happen, and under what circumstances?

Each county in all 50 states are required to submit their lists of registered voters on Monday (15 days before the election). Could perhaps be what they were talking about? Was the story you heard something about "making sure you're registered to vote before Monday?"

The voter registration thing has become a HUGE deal in this election because the Republicans are doing EVERYTHING necessary to make sure it's hard as possible to vote if you are black, poor, or a student. For example, in Tennessee (yes...that would be in the South) you cannot use student ID's, military ID's, Social Security cards, or almost anything else other than your Tennessee state driver's license OR A CONCEALED WEAPON PERMIT. Yep...that doesn't favor a certain political party at all...does it?

Here is a hilarious PSA from comedian Sarah Silverman about how to make sure you don't get screwed out of voting.

If you want a pretty decent...but also super easy way to see which American candidates you most agree with, hit up the short quiz on how feel about certain issues here.
www.isidewith.com...

FYI: Just make sure to always click the box that says "choose another stance" so that you can at least see all of the other possible answers before making your final selections.

Later. And watch that Sarah Silverman video...it's frickin' hilarious.

I always write in Ru Paul or Mel Brooks. I can't stand either party. None of them care about guys like me, they only care about increasing the size of government and revenue for the government. They do not care about liberty at all, the only thing they want to do is control people's lives. Republicans want to force their religion on you, liberals want to take away thee right to own firearms and force you to pay for things you can't afford such as Obamacare. So on, and so forth.

By the way, Ru Paul is not to be confused with Ron Paul. Ru Paul is a famous African American male cross dresser, so I think it would be hilarious if he ran for president. Not that he would win or anything because in this country the paradigm is you can only elect a Democrat or Republican.

And I hate that paradigm.

Change Will happen.. They have broken our country so bad that it doesn't matter what happens at this point. They have pushed too far this time. How are we taking back control? Don't know, but you will see it happen.

As far as how long ago? I don't think it's cut and dry like that. I feel that more and more control has been gained. More and more in power have given up.. I guess it started around and before 1913 yes..

Mistakes were made and presidents showed great regret, like Woodrow Wilson Andrew Jackson and FDR... Warnings from Eisenhower and Kennedy went un heard. Assassinations have taken out the best of our culture, and the most powerful people not going along..

Americans are actually smart people when we have the information.. They only kept us down by hiding knowledge and pointing us in blind directions to kill our enemies abroad when really they were here. More Americans are waking up faster to the true roots of all of this within our country than these little slugs can cover up.

When the knowledge hits critical mass you will find that we are wuite resourceful as a people no matter our race. It's just sort of a communal feeling that "yes we can do it" This is why Obama's slogan was so ingenious.. Seemed like he could have been on our side. Seemed like he could have been another Kennedy, and maybe he believed it too??

Here's some more Gary Johnson:

Sinny our government has been highjacked, and both Obama and Romney play for the same corporate team...I will also be voting Gary Johnson...who is a third party canidate ....not even let into the presidential debates...he is the extention of the Ron Paul movement in America...which was powerful, but basically overthrown by MSM and outright cheating in the GOP conventions...also the fact that he is such an honest and honorable man I think prevented him from playing "hard ball" at the risk of his integrity...was painful to watch...and a real blow to the hearts of American's that want an end to these immoral wars around the world......

The fact is these "greedy pricks" as I will call them, will stop at nothing.....and we discuss this "agenda" on ATS alot.....all I can say...is there alot of GOOD American people that are trying, but the handcuffs are on, the police beat the s**t out of people that protest, our Constitution is almost gone, every sneeky trick in the book to "lawfully" entrap the people into worry, debt and loss of liberty is being used...now you have just heard several Americans saying they will vote Johnson....but those actual results will be lied about...but I will still vote, because I want these folks to know that they can only cheat us for so long.......

I thought knowing everything about the United States, geography and politics included, was a point of intellectual pride for people from other countries. I'm surprised to encounter someone who knows almost as little about US politics as I do about yours. (I confess I don't even know the name of your own prime minister.)

This is as much as I myself know: there are many different parties, and all candidates do their own campaigns. Only the Big Two, Democrat and Republican, get full media coverage. They are also the only ones that participate in the ending debates, which I find a little odd.
Each side's candidate is chosen from two contenders.
The election process takes two years.
Some theorize that the presidents are unknowingly just figureheads, with the true power pulling their strings as they see fit.
Enmity between supporters abound. I predict pandemonium after election day no matter which candidate is elected.
And all that just scratches the surface.

Sure. Here you go...but be advised it is the super-duper abbreviated version.

Main Parties:

Republicans- (who also go by the acronym "GOP" standing for "Grand Ol' Party"). The Repub's have branded themselves as being the party of business, financial "responsibility", jesus, xenophobia, oil companies and the carpet-bombing of civilians in the Middle East. For the most part these stereotypes are true (especially in the last 50 yrs or so) although Ron Paul is a notable exception as he is for the most part a decent human being, even though I disagree with him on a couple of issues. Baby Bush, Pappy Bush, Reagan, Dick Cheney, and Richard Nixon are all prominent republicans from the last 50 yrs that are usually recognized internationally.

Democrats- have branded themselves as the party of the people, labor, racial minorities, environmental responsibility, peace, etc. While as a general rule much of this is true, notable exceptions include Lyndon Johnson (who had a fetish for napalming little vietnamese kids and is responsible for ESCALATING our vietnam war), and quite possibly Barrack Obama who has yet to pull our forces out the Middle East, and even took action in Libya as well was totally silent regarding police brutality during our Occupy protests. The Clintons, Jimmy Carter, Al Gore, JFK, and Martin Luther King, Jr all identified w/ the Democrats in the last 50 years.

The Mythical Third Party- Every election since time immemorial Americans have dreamed about having someone to vote for who was neither Republican nor Democrat. Every time around there are a big pile of "fringe" parties who run mostly as a political statement rather than to actually win. Some of these third parties are the Libertarians, The Green Party, The Democratic Socialists, The Communists (yes...we DO really have an American Communist Party), The Constitutionalists, and about 200 other ones as well. The only time we have really come CLOSE to getting a viable third party candidate at the National level was with Ross Perot in 1992. Perot ran against Daddy Bush and Clinton and peaked in the polls w/ about 15% and presumably he started receiving death threats against him and his family and he was forced to drop out. Immediately after this election, the Dems and Repubs took the control of the debate AWAY from the League of Women Voters (started in the early 1900's to get women's suffrage) and rigged the rules to ensure that there will NEVER be a third podium up there again. Hence the reason why you most likely have not heard of Gary Johnson.

The Candidates

Obama- Clearly you are familiar with him. I voted for him in '08 because I was disgusted with the illegal wars, handouts to corporations, and the erosion of civil liberties in our long national nightmare referred to as the "Bush Administration". Unfortunately, Obama came in and kept the wars going, continued to torture the bejeebies out of our prisoners, destroyed the last vestiges of our constitutional Bill of Rights w/ the NDAA and in general has done a terrible job in my opinion. The ONE thing that I will say Obama has done EXTREMELY WELL is that he has consistently and repeatedly told Netanyahu and Israel to go screw themselves. He has been resistant to go to War w/ Iran and he told Netanyahu in public that in order for the US to get behind a peace deal Israel will be going back to the 1967 borders. As much as I loathe many of the other things he's done...this is almost enough to win my vote again. Avoiding WWIII is sort of a big deal in my book.

Mitt Romney- Romney is the Republican Candidate. He is a Mormon and if you thought other religions were nutty....wait until you learn about Mormonism. It was founded by a convicted con man in the 1800's here in the United States. They "believe" amongst other things that God is a 6ft tall white guy who lives on the planet Kolub, the Hamitic Curse is why black people have dark skin, that Native Americans are a lost tribe of Israel, polygamy is the best way to get into heaven, and that the real Jerusalem is in Saint Louis, Missouri. Oh...they also wear Magical Underpants in order to ward off "evil" and "demons". I sh^t you not...I'm not making any of this up.

Here's a link to a documentary about the Romney families polygamist compound in Mexico and their war with Mexican drug Cartels. (Mitt Romney's Dad was born in Mexico in a Mormon cult and then immigrated to the US where he would eventually become the Gov. of Michigan and run for President himself in the '60's.)

...and here is a link to a company called "Mormon's Secret" that manufactures the aforementioned Magical UnderWear of Godliness or whatever the call them. (See...I told you I wasn't kidding).
mormonssecret.com...

There is, of course, much more to the story...but hey...we have a character limit here...so at least it's a start.

I know...she's hilarious isn't she? I love the deadpan way she sounds all sweet at the beginning and then chimes in w/ the "...lawmakers are trying to f^ck you in your a^^holes". You know she's gonna be foul-mouthed...but you can just never quite tell when.

How are they getting away with? Have you met any Americans? We are stupid enough in this country that around 50% of us are actually CHEERING AND BRAGGING that they are disenfranchising large segments of the population. "They" aren't "getting away" with anything...WE ARE JUST DUMB ENOUGH TO ACTUALLY BE "THEIR" ACCOMPLICES.

Sad but true.

Gary Johnson is getting my vote for many reasons. He was an excellent Governor here in New Mexico, I agree with him on most issues including his positions on gun control, the federal reserve, fair taxes... I don't think he will gain enough support to win since the MSM has blacked him out of all debates, but he still gets my vote.
