Hey everyone..
Today in my college class, our professor brought up the debate from last night, and in the end, we ended up talking about the basic topics of the debate. The class has about 40 people in attendance on average. I did my duty, talking about how the debates are more or less an American idol episode, and that the media creates a divide among the people. A lot of the students confirmed their agreement with head nods and "yeps". I mentioned that I do not affiliate myself to either party, then mentioned Ron Paul. About 10 people snickered laughing, and some other dude said "well then say goodbye to the department of defense". I was so irritated my face was beet red. I was unable to respond to that comment as our professor (an open socialist) started talking...

If I were to say to the "say goodbye to the department of defense" dude something in 3 sentences or less, what shoukd I say to get Dr. Paul's main stance on this across quickly?

So you are a Ron Paul supporter that does not know Paul's stance on defense? Why are you a Ron Paul supporter again? extra DIV

I'd just ask him, "How so?"

I bet he can't explain why Ron Paul equals "goodbye to the DOD." Because it is a falsehood. Instead of taking it upon yourself, throw it back on them. Ask them to regurgitate some half-truths and rumors until they look stupid in their own lack of knowledge. You don't need 3 sentences, just 2 words.

Of course, you could always compare our "Defensive Force" to Japan's "Defensive Force." Our weaponry is entirely geared toward OFFENSE, and it is deployed around the world in that duty. After WWII, Japan was restricted to entirely defensive weapons, so compare the two forces. Ron Paul might get rid of our Department of Offense, but the Department of Defense will be just fine. In fact, Paul wants to increase diplomacy and trade, even into countries like Iran, so more diplomacy, means more Embassies, and more positions for DOD employees! You could also mention the fact that the military overwhelmingly supports Paul, so apparently they are not too worried about the false rumors.

Wait a second what are you trying to imply here ?

Is it that Ron Paul does not want to Defend the Country or have a Strong National Defense ? Because if thats what you are trying to imply..

It's Wrong =/
So wrong.

If thats not what you meant than my bad. extra DIV

Are you mad? I know his stance on defense. I dont have even half a minute to discuss it while responding to somebody in a college setting. What Im wondering is, what would someones "knockout" response be in less than 3 sentences?

P.S.: To "schuyler"...

I said my piece in class and did it well. My curiosity is what other members here would have said quickly and/or on the spot.

Explanation: S&F!

"A well regulated militia ... " means that defence is each individual states job to provide that for its own citizens.

Also the 2nd amendment means that all armed citizens are capable of carrying out "A well regulated militia!".

Defence happens at home ... not overseas!

Personal Disclosure: I don't endorse RP ... but his policies do speak for him and mostly they speak louder and with more sense than the other 2
. WRITE HIM IN OK!

P.S. I have to go vote in my own TERRITORY's local elections, which are a complete farce because federal government has a minister for territories who can override anything enacted by the local government, SO I AM WRITTING IN CHINA ... since I know who is buttering my bread in reality!

I find it somewhat silly that you are having a discussion in an upper tier environment, in which a single phrase response can possibly be acceptable. The best thing you could do is to refuse to dignify that sort of idle BS with a response.
