General Nile sat in the Command Center trailer waiting for a response from the White House. The cover-up of the Northern Louisiana Explosion on
10/15/12 was not going well. Although the media was doing its part to hide the truth of the event, the local population, as well as the much of the
nation wasn’t buying the story that was being sold to them.
No matter what was being fed to the people of the United States and the people of the world, his team had been unable to control the overwhelming
amount of eyewitness accounts. The meteorite explanation had kept most of the conspiracy theorist busy for a while, but without being able to produce
adequate footage of the event to further distract them from the truth, they were quickly unraveling the heart of the matter.
Even a well thought out round of disinformation about the involvement of Russian missiles was being quickly picked apart. It wasn’t going to be
long before someone pieced it all together. He believed that the only route now was full disclosure. He was only waiting for confirmation from the
President.
He knew that even though the truth would finally be revealed to the public, they wouldn’t accept it. Who would? The people today had been fed so
much fiction from Hollywood that they would look on this reality as an insane possibility. They just wouldn’t be able to believe that they were
truly under attack from a being not of this world.
General Nile and his team had been forewarned of the event. They had been preparing for the situation for decades. The truth had already been
revealed to the world, but few were able to grasp what was being said to them was more real than their own hand in front of their face. Most believed
the truth to be a work of fiction. When General Nile had been assigned to lead the Preparation Force, he had trouble facing the truth himself. It
wasn’t until much later when the signals from space were translated that he finally caved in to the reality.
It was General Nile’s idea to prepare the sinkhole in Louisiana. NASA had done an excellent job of analyzing the trajectory of the incoming being,
or so they thought. His team, as well as NASA and the other government officials tasked with preparing for the being’s arrival thought that it
could be destroyed upon impact. By preparing the impact zone, and weakening the subsurface, it was believed that the impact would ignite the gas in
the cavern next to the sinkhole. With any luck, the explosion would kill the being, and the further collapse of the sinkhole would bury the being’s
remains for all time. If everything had worked according to plan, the people of the world would have never known the truth.
It wasn’t until a few moments before impact that everyone in the Preparation Force watching realized that the trajectory had been calculated
incorrectly. The being wasn’t going to land in the prepared impact zone. With great sadness and hope for the future lost, they had begun preparing
to cover up the initial reports. Although General Nile was doing everything possible, he knew from the moment of impact that it would only be a
matter of time before the truth was out.
The phone began to ring in the Command Center Trailer.
“Project Lovecraft is a go,” came the words of the President through the phone.
“May God be with us all.”
With those words, General Nile nodded to his team. In an instant, they began scrambling to prepare for full disclosure to the people of the world.
Cthulhu had returned…and they had already lost the ability to track the Old One.
The end was near.
