Lenticular Clouds on Astronomy Picture of the Day

Topic started on 30-4-2003 @ 01:13 AM by Byrd

Since we've had some discussion about these, I thought I'd point out the current "Astronomy Picture Of The Day" which is a REALLY weird looking lenticular cloud.

(yes, it's real. No, space aliens and HAARP didn't make it. It's natural.)

And check out the photo that was taken 30 miles away from the first one!

hey byrd nice post. Love the pics of these clouds formations.

When I was doing a thread on this and searching through the net I found it amazing that people still believe that these are UFOs. They are however just about the most spectacular natural formation in the sky.

Thread on Lenticular clouds, more pics etc.

Yeah I noticed these too, in Reno you get an effect, Sierra rilles or something like that...*I have NO clue what they're called, and I assume they happen with any mountain range* where the clouds break off into layers and sections that mimic the contour of the mountain range...really awesome.

Can't wait to see the next pic...it's probably a deepfield or something
