This just proves my allegation (if it's found to be true) months ago that China intentionally lowered prices at below market levels forcing American solar companies to go out of business.

I say a deeper agenda was in play.

I think the Administration knew the Chinese would lower prices.

I think the plan all along was to fill the pockets of Obama cronies.

It never had anything to do with the precious green energy.

If it did, the Administration would simply have bought solar panel technology from China in the first place and gave U.S. businesses a hefty tax relief credit to assemble the final products.

I thought the goal was to reduce oil & gas use for electricity generators ?

I guess the real goal was money.

Now let's figure out how much electricity generated from oil & gas will be wasted by all the lawyers fighting in court

Ten years ago, solar panels were made mostly in the United States, Germany, and Japan. Chinese manufacturers made almost none. But by 2006, the Chinese company Suntech Power had the capacity to make over a million silicon-based solar panels a year and was already the world's third-largest producer.....

And, it looks like those cheap Chinese panels are creating U.S. jobs ....

So it sounds to me like you're in favor of Chinese manufacturing doing better than American manufacturing so long as the money used to buy the foreign made materials doesn't come from the government?

Yet, in your initial post you suggested the US government purchase the panels directly from China to supply US solar manufacturers...however, that's Communism, we are not a communist nation and we don't have a communist president.

We gave Solyndra $500 million to, not only create jobs, but to compete in the American market against Chinese solar panel manufacturers who...according to congress, received billions in Chinese government subsidies and, according to allegations from Solyndra, intentionally undersold their product so that American companies couldn't compete.

Interestingly enough, this is a similar tactic to what Wal-Mart does when it opens in a new market, intentionally selling at a loss (because they can afford to) to drive out the smaller business' than rising prices when a sufficient number of competitors are gone.

here's an example of how they play the due facce game.....

Harry Reid’s state of Nevada has received stimulus money for two green energy plants which filed for bankruptcy after receiving federal loan guarantees under the stimulus program.


At the time these loans were awarded to these two companies it was well known the companies were in financial trouble and were expected to fold yet the money was awarded anyway in what appears to be an obvious instance of crony socialism designed to reward Democrat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid for his efforts to promote Barack Obama’s green energy initiative.


But wait, there’s more as can be seen here:

ENN is a Chinese based solar panel plant which is looking to build a $5 billion plant in, you guessed it, Nevada. Clark County officials approved the purchase of land in Nevada for the sum of $4.5 million even though the land was valued at almost $40 million.

Harry Reid then pressured NV Energy, the largest power company in Nevada, to become ENN’s first customer. Did he do this to ensure the company would be able to build in his state, or is there some other reason Harry Reid took such a vested interest in the company?.....

It's impossible to 'ensure' success. Otherwise there would be no failed companies or markets. While the Chinese market had been growing rapidly since the mid-decade it would have been extremely difficult, if not impossible to realize the corruption and conspiring that was occuring to undermine their competitors.

Just as recently as four days ago you've got the Department of Commerce putting tariffs on Chinese imports of solar panels because of their investigation into this very matter put forth by the Solyndra suit. Just a month ago the EU opened an investigation due to the complaint that

Chinese companies sold solar panel modules and products well below production costs, with dumping margins between 60 and 80 percent.

I'm sure it gives you a warm fuzzy to hate on the green energy market and the Obama administration for spending money to try and create jobs in this country, but more and more it's appearing that China has been intentionally cheating us and the rest of the world.

The only thing the government is doing is slowing the sales of solar panels/systems.
The price is only going to go up as there is no way US made solar panels will ever be able to compete.

Nothing the government does will really bother china as they have the rest of the world to sell to.
There is more demand for solar panels then there is supply and this has been keeping prices up.

Sort of like what Bush did when he let the banks lend Trillions they didn't have... They got bailouts

Because really the most he can do is file a complaint in the WTO. It isn't something that the President or Congress really have a great deal of choice on. Remember back when the steel industry was in trouble? Bush raised the tariffs on Chinese steel, a good thing but he did it knowing that he would have to drop the tariff once the WTO had to rule against us and level penalties. The whole thing lasted about a year and a half.

The issue with solar manufacturing here, which isn't the greatest idea. China subsidizes the industry and also controls most of the rare earth materials used to make them. Which exponentially increases the cost to manufacture here. China should never have been allowed in the WTO and we shouldn't be trading with them on human rights principles alone.

President Obama has filed more complaints with the WTO against China than either Clinton or Bush. And you can bet he has filed more than a President Romney ever would. This countries economic mess will not get repaired and we will no longer be a Superpower if we do not address our membership in the WTO and our bad trade policy. Everything else is just a band aid over a bullet hole.
