Let me sensationalize a few potentials for a moment...

They have found a candidate in the habitable zone around for HD 10180 and used the highest precision spectra on it to determine that it has a signature for O2/c02/h20 ... that is interesting

They found around one of the HARPS GTO stars like Tau Cet. / Alf Cent. a planet in the habitable zone. Ran spectra on that, and found similar signatures. THAT is really news as they can then / have already pointed Aricibo toward the star and are listening for an EM sig due to proximity.

They found Niburu, its heading toward us, the Annunaki ARE PISSED! and the nerds felt they needed a head-start on clearing out the grocery store.

Okay in all seriousness I hope we have a scenario number 2 from above, and its very likely that is what shakes out.

Im just throwing this out there as pure speculation.
Maybe this exoplanet is in the goldilocks zone and they
have detected radio waves of some sort

wow the flags for this post has doubled within an hours time lol!
Most likely it will be a planet that has a livable signature such as the one listed above, but even so... what next?? anyone up for a long space journey to this new planet??? I myself say YES!

My only fear would be that there might not be any food when I got there... I am something of a foodie and eating rocks and dirt would be depressing.

True!! But imagine that they also picked up some kinda of intelligent signals from this planet? I would defin take the chance and assume there would be food there
now whether its enjoyable or not that would be the chance id have to take!

if its a huge announcment yes, because then the focus would shift, dont underestimate the power of US politics in an election year. The press coverage would be all debate, and would over shadow an important announcement
