There are as many paths to God as there are people

When undertaking spiritual practice it is important to bear in mind that each individual is different and so what works for one person may not work for another. When climbing a mountain each climber thinks his way is the only way. But when he reaches the top of the mountain, he realizes that there were an infinite number of ways that could have taken him to the top. Likewise there are as many paths to God as there are people.

If five patients were to go to a doctor and each was suffering from a different ailment, then giving all five the same medicine would not result in each of them being cured. So also each of us are different and hence the same spiritual practice cannot be recommended for all. In a spiritual context each of us is unique across the following parameters.

What are those parameters?

The composition of the 3 subtle basic components (Trigunas) i.e. whether they are sattvik, rajasik or tamasik by nature.

The five cosmic elements (earth, water, fire, air and ether)

The degree to which different aspects of spiritual practice have been completed in prior births.

The different accumulated account, destiny and wilful action that each one has.

A person may also adopt a certain path depending on his temperament.

So, as members of this ATS forum, who are we, really, to tell each other they are mistaken?
I know I've done my share of postulating here.....
and have been less than gracious from time to time. Knowing that I have done so reminds me that I'm human.

I really, really want to find/read/hear something that rings absolutely true for me. I know it's possible. I don't know in what form it will/has come, if it will be a "feeling" , a vision, an "inner voice", dream, etc. I have come across some folks on here who have contributed a great deal.

But nothing has shaken my conviction that we each have to find our own way --- our own path through the vast, scary forest. If we only keep moving, true to self, we will emerge in the meadow beyond. But no one can walk it with us, really. They can shout directions and best wishes from their own paths, but....

in the end, we are physically alone, and I really believe we each have to travel that path, our personalized Spiritual Path, with only that unique guiding light that passeth understanding.

It's a rocky, hard road. Just wanted to let you -- the forum team here -- know, you all do help me in my journey. Nevertheless, I am convinced I must walk it on my own. Each of us must. And, I'm sure that as long as we are trying, it will be okay.

Hi Wildtimes,

I have recently had this very thing on my mind too. There are infinite ways to GOD. Spirituality is like sex. Everybody does it there own way and everybody is an artist. Religion is like having sex with the lights out, in the dark and in the "missionary position" all of the time.

Spirituality is tantric, enlightening, passionate and can be orgasmic. It is sad that most religious people have never had a spiritual orgasm.

Considering God is many things to many people, and almost always intangable, simply by claiming you found god, thats all the proof someone needs to have.

Its a bit like saying you found love, of happiness.
They don't have to prove it..because there is nothing to prove to begin with..nothing with substance.

You on the other hand are claiming that there is a single path to god. This means you see it as a tangable, measurable thing, requiring both proof of a specific deity, and proof also of the path to him as you suggest.

So, in this instance, the burden of proof is on you.

You identified a specific number. good.
Now, explain the two paths, show the evidence, then show what specific deity you are suggesting.

You are taking a personal thing (spirituality) and pretending it is measurable.
