Amanda Todd posted cry for help on YouTube after years of bullying

Another highly disturbing incident involving cyber-bulling that resulted in the suicide of a young girl. I've seen many similar stories such as this and it leaves me.... speechless. That this happens on a fairly regular basis shows an illness that plagues society.

I was bullied to the point where I had to leave school but that was as far as it went. This was before the advent of online social media. Now, no matter where you go, there are people that follow and harass victims and there is no escape for some of them.

RCMP in B.C. have confirmed they have launched a full investigation into the circumstances leading to the suicide of Port Coquitlam teen Amanda Todd.

The 15-year-old girl committed suicide in her family home on Wednesday, about a month after posting a video on YouTube saying how she sunk into depression while enduring years of bullying, blackmail and physical assaults at school and online.

As part of the investigation, police officers are already reviewing and actively monitoring social media, Sgt. Peter Thiessen said in a statement issued on Friday afternoon.

Although this video was reportedly taken down, copies have been popping up.

Todd's family members have said they hope her YouTube video can be used in a positive way to prevent future youth suicides.

Still the harassment continues: Facebook pages which were originally meant as a tribute to Amanda and a place for people to express their sympathy has gathered content from some very sick and ill minded people.

Here is one of the Facebook pages. (You do not need an account. Just hit "close" on the bottom of the log in screen)

More needs to be done to combat cyber-bulling, but I'm not sure what. I cannot believe that even after death, these cyber-bullies are actually glad she's dead....

I hope she's found her peace.

Thanks for posting this update. More power to the Police and I hope they conduct a thorough investigation and charge everyone that participated in the victimisation and psychological assaults.

In Australia a few years ago a young woman committed suicide after bullying in the workplace. Unfortunately she had to lose her life to set a precedent - but - now the business get a huge fine in the tens/hundreds of thousands of dollars. Separately each person who participated in the victimisation and psychological abuse has to face a judge and receive fines and/or a jail term.

I hope Amanda Todd receives justice and I sincerely hope each and every person who participated in her psychological abuse - is named for all society to see. Hopefully the courts will prefer charges and they will have to pay in some small way for driving a gentle young girl to despair.

Much Peace...

It's nice to hear that Australia is making some head way in this. I hope the same happens in Canada.

The youth get so much protection from the law because of their age, but that has NOTHING to do with whether or not if they knew what they were doing was just plain wrong. I'm sure they knew it was wrong. Or at the very least I would hope that would be the case because if they didn't that's a whole other problem.

That's just plain disgusting. Some people don't care, they don't care what they say to a person or how what they say and do affects anyone else. I'm wondering if the ones that bullied her even feel in the slightest bad. Probably not. I hope they get jail time. Probably won't. Pitiful.

I am disputing that I owe this debt, as there is another debt management agency also asking me for the outstanding which I have been paying to them.
Unfortunately there’s been a Facebook page made apparently as a tribute but it was hit by trolls earlier.
Some guy posting pic's of mutilated genitalia others posting drink bleach and laughing that she thought her pic's wouldn’t get spammed.
A lot of it has been removed after an hour or so but it shows even in death this poor girl can’t be left in peace and what a sick, cruel, twisted nature some attention seeking individuals in this world have.

RIP Amanda Todd.

Such a beautiful young lady. What a shame. I am surprised that more isn't being done here in the US. In grade school I went to a catholic school and bullying wasn't tolerated on any level. When I went into a public school it was like a whole new world. People picking fights with each other for no reason at all. It was shocking.

Schools need to get more involved and have a zero tolerence level. Maybe we need special classes on how to be a human being with compassion. Man!

I have been posting on another thread about this subject but it has gotten a little out of control with personal opinions and member on member bickering. I came here to see if their is any news on the pervert who created the fake facebook page and changed the picture to be her breasts. If this turns out to be some adult and not another teenager, then I hope he is arrested and tried for holding child pornography.

Also, I won't visit her memorial page on facebook because I don't think I can handle all the hateful posts that the page is racking up. But, considering she had no one really there for her, maybe this memorial page was set up by those who harassed her as a way to further ridicule the situation. I certainly hope not.
