What sea creature would have a blue eye this large?
I find it truly fascinating that the experts aren't even sure what creature this eyeball belonged to, so this will be an interesting situation to follow.
My money's on a giant squid.
What's your guess?

Pompano Beach eh ??
hmmmm, giant squid aren't too common 'round those parts, (too warm and too shallow) and i like the fish ideas but i'm gonna be the "odd man out" and go with the (probably very unpopular) answer of dolphin.

geeeez i hope i'm wrong but i guess we'll soon find out, won't we ?
they do have some beautiful blue eyes though

Well I'd sure say the man who found this has an Eye for finding odd things on the beach eh? Okay.,, I couldn't resist..

Seriously, there must be an interesting 'Discovery Channel' kinda story behind how the eye went from being in something really big to being on the beach intact. You gotta love the reminders humans occasionally get of how big nature gets in another realm of our world. I think I'm quite happy right here on dry land. Lakes around here don't have things with eyeballs bigger than my hand.

Since enough people already said marlin/billfish, I will go with a tuna.
How about a bigeye tuna?

Well, another thought..

I wonder what caused whatever it is to lose the eyeball?!

Perhaps is was something bigger that ate it.

Link to image for the eye of a Giant Humboldt Squid:

Image

It does look quite similar and is similar in size. I guess they need to check DNA to be sure.

You know, lol, funny you should say that. I have always said that the first thing any human does when it comes onto something it doesn't know, is poke it with a stick.

Holes especially. Ever notice that if you are hiking or doing something and come up on a hole in the ground, there will be several sticks in it?? Whether it is the size of a baseball or a mine shaft, there will be sticks.

lmao

Tell me I am wrong.

Not this large. That kind of water absorbtion would burst an eye. Did they link a photo yet? I dont know how but I saw it this morning on the news and its large, like a grapefruit size eye.
