Gabriel Over the White House
Warner Brothers, 1933

Something to lighten things up a bit. God knows we need it.

If you haven't seen this flick, grab some popcorn and relax for an hour and a half (when you have the time) to check it out. Basically, it's about the Depression Era, and how, in order to reign in the chaos, the President became dictator. He takes an exremely hard line, no nonsense aproach to war, organized crime, etc. Of course, being 1933, they had to mellow it at the end (thus the Gabriel part).

I thought it was an interesting view of the subject, even though totally fictitious. Some parallels might be drawn between the movie and current politics (not in a literal sense). After watching it, or if you've already seen it, we can hang out and discuss the ideas depicted.

Enjoy!

edit: sorry about the Emergency Broadcasting noise near the beginning.

I watched this movie a few weeks back and started a thread about it, but didn't get much response. It has a lot of parallels with what is going on today. It is very interesting that a President that made himself dictator was the "hero" of the story.
