This story is honestly bizarre. A man by the name of Felix Baumgartner is planning on jumping from 120,000 feet free fall in a space suit and with a
parachute... This is obviously the highest recorded jump ever. The guy is sponsored by Red Bull who are known for sponsoring some of the craziest
extreme athletes around.
Felix Baumgartner is making the jump in a space suit, helmet and parachute. He's being ballooned 23 miles up, where he'll begin the jump. Read
Baumgartner, who is being sponsored by Red Bull, could be the first human being to break the sound barrier without the assistance of a
mechanical device like an airplane or spacecraft. Because the air is so thin at that altitude, 40 seconds into the jump he should hit 690 miles an
hour. Read more: www.tmz.com...
To give you some perspective, he'll jump from a height more than 3 times the cruising altitude of a commercial jet. Read more:
This is not something you see every day: extreme athlete Felix Baumgartner will undertake a 23-mile free fall into southeastern New Mexico on
Tuesday—if the weather permits it. Baumgartner has spent five years training, and he is hoping take off in a 55-story helium balloon headed to the
stratosphere on Monday, after weather pushed the jump back by a day. It will take him three hours to reach 120,000 feet. From that height, his jump is
expected to last about 10 minutes and he will reach speeds of 690 mph. Pawel Szaniawski interviews the daredevil.
So, I wonder... Will he survive this?? ATS, this is about extreme as you can get...The jump is on a weather hold right now... It looks like it could
happen at 4pm EST today, maybe sooner, who knows...
