Yup, the next window of opportunity appears to be on October 14th, after a front blows through the area.
I'm only 90 miles from Roswell, and I was out in the field with my binoculars, eager to see the balloon and capsule as it rose up (the air is very
clear out here when there are no storms, and you can see a long way away), only to find out that it was cancelled yesterday.
The local news said that the balloon requires an almost windless atmosphere in order to launch. I'm shaking my head, thinking that they picked the
wrong month. They may get lucky after the front comes through and there is a temporary lull before the winds pick up again, but don't be surprised
if it gets cancelled a few more times. They should have done this in July.
