Yes, thank you thread host!

Uuum, he set the record for highest in a balloon.

He did not set the record for time in freefall.

But, did he or did he not break the sound barrier/Mach 1?

Thanks.

Mach 1 is

(1225 km/h, or 761.2 mph, or 661.5 knots, or 1116 ft/s) in the Earth's atmosphere.

I am to excited to remember what his speed was

I was so worried when he started spinning!!!!

i dont think he did... according to google speed of sound is 761 mph, he hit 729 mph... still the fastest freefall tho

we have to wait until the press conference to get confirmation tho

Sky News are claiming he did.

So, unfortunately he probably didn't.

When the infra red was showing him rotating rapidly after 20 seconds, and than it went to control and you saw one guy twirl his fingers around and another guy facepalm... i was almost packing bricks.

When you saw hm correct it, and than land the perfect landing...woah!

Instand hero.

We can do the math - 128,000 feet altitude is where they had him jump and I saw it as 4 minutes and 9 seconds - though they called it as 4 minutes and 22 seconds of freefall.

Knock 6000 off of 128,000 because his parachute opened a little over 6,000 feet. 122,000

So, using their figure of 4 minutes and 22 seconds of freefall - I make that

28372.093023255813953488372093023 - feet per minute.

(I rounded the 22 seconds to .3 - dirty math I know
)

Wait - 122,000 / 282 seconds = 432.6241134751773049645390070922 feet per second so that's 25957.446808510638297872340425532 feet per minute.

1557446.8085106382978723404255319 feet per hour

There's 5.280 feet to a mile so ...

Makes 294.97098646034816247582205029014 MPH - right or wrong?

Help me math wizards! We can do it!

How many MPH did he average in the freefall time?

Never mind - my math must be wrong because Kr0nZ said he hit 729 MPH and that he made the record for fastest freefall; but, did not break the sound barrier.

Oh well, he made 2 of the four records he was shooting for. I'm glad he made it back safely no matter what!

I'm pretty certain he said he thought he did blank out (which probably put him into spin mode). But thankfully they train these guys badarse. They should probably stick him in a F1 car to give the ones in there now, someone who can handle real sh!t.

One of the best things about this is that Joe Kittinger gets some recognition for what he done when only few was watching.

Well done to all i say..

Next Person will probably do it on a motorbike.

I'm still pumped, standing on the step he said a few words to his wife who was killed on the Columbia.

Something like:

..garble...
Everyone is watching
Look at me up so high
I hope that you can see what I see through my eyes
...garbled...

just killed me god bless him

I gave you a star for truth! He know's what it's like, and he was mentally and maybe physically there with him I believe.

These positive events should happen more often. Like space exploration, manned or robotic!

The message is, we have to set our priorities strait as a planet! It's the 21st century, let's start behaving like we're in it!

We are humanity, we explore!

Seven.
