According to a sudden "declaration", Venezuela's electoral council says President Hugo Chavez has successfully been re-elected !!

This "quick draw McGraw" announcement came soon after much turmoil and indications that Chavez may be losing the election !!

Lots of conflict and speculation will surely be swirling around by tomorrow.

Viva La election ?

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) -- Venezuela's electoral council says President Hugo Chavez has won re-election, defeating challenger Henrique Capriles.

National Electoral Council president Tibisay Lucena says that with most votes counted, Chavez had about 54 percent of the vote.

It was Chavez's third re-election victory in nearly 14 years in office. The victory gives Chavez another six-year term to cement his legacy and press more forcefully for a transition to socialism in the country with the world's largest proven oil reserves.

(AP) Chavez: Polling stations remain open in Venezuela
CARACAS, Venezuela
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said some voters were still in line voting Sunday night, and he called for calm as the nation awaits results of the presidential election.

"There are still people voting in some centers," Chavez said in a phone call to his campaign leaders broadcast live on state television. "Let's wait for the results with patience, calm."

The president of Venezuela's electoral council said earlier that voting stations would remain open past the scheduled closing time of 6 p.m. where there were voters who had not cast ballots, as is the norm under the country's electoral rules............

90% of the vote has been counted and he had a 54% of the vote. Hell we declare winners here with far less than that.

Quite the politician isn't he? Scoring points in another country as well as making them appear more needy than his own!

I ran across the following update:

Update 10:50 p.m.: According to the Associated Press, Venezuela’s electoral council has declared that Hugo Chavez beat Henriques Capriles in Sunday’s presidential election with about 54 percent of the vote, despite exit polls showing otherwise.

Venezuela Twitter users have claimed Chavez’s victory was wrought with election fraud, and that the socialist incumbent president sent tanks into the streets of his country as those exit poll reports showed him losing. A picture of the tanks surfaced on Twitter Sunday evening.

The British Guardian newspaper reported that Chavez also sent troops armed with AK-47s into Venezuela’s streets to fight against any protests in case unrest came as a result of the news.

dailycaller.com...

Please tell me that that, tanks and all, couldn't happen in the US in November. Please, Anybody.

The problem with those and that exit polls is that they were even released on to the general public even before the election got started. From what i heard the opposition have been known to fake the results in order to try and swing the favor towards them.

SURPRISE!

NOT!!!!

Knew he'd "win" somehow and I don't think the guy is the devil that some make him out to be.

Just a big honkin' cheater.

Stop repeating BS people.
The elections in Venezuela are audited by representatives of both the UN and the organization of american states.
Probably, the most transparent elections in the world.

How many international overseers are asked to check the proceedings of north-american elections??

You may not like him, but he won fair and square.

Edit: And I can also send a twitter saying that the opposition was bringing guns to the place, or that God has chosen me to go take a pee... We need sources more serious than "some venezuelan twitter", more if we take into account the lack of responsability of the right-wing of venezuela, let's not forget that a couple years ago they were trying to kill chavez and make a coup d'etat

The opposition would have had friendly relations with the USA meaning selling itself out again. Most of the rich families in venezuel resent chavez because he kicked foreigners out which gave those rich families comfy cushy jobs that only benefitted them and not the whole country.

This is the reason why Mr Chavez always wins elections, he wants to keep those people out but he is by no means perfect.

Has anyone, and I mean ANYONE ever had a shot against Chavez?

I find it hard to believe Venezuela's elections are transparent.

If Hugo was so confident in his ability to win, why send tanks out?

Congratulations El Presidente! Now perhaps some poor folks in the North Eastern U.S. will get some free fuel this winter and not have freeze to death. (Chavez has been donating fuel oil to poor Americans in the past)

I'd rather buy fuel from Citco (Owned by the people of Venezuala) than the Robber-barons at Exxon-Mobil.

I knew he would win, the people love him and he has done so much to earn their love... some of you downers should talk to some Venezuelans that live/lived in the Barrios and gain some knowledge. Most of you have only heard the propaganda from the Capitalists that want their ability to exploit those people back and those are the lies that have spread to the US, don't forget we (Bush) had a hand in that 72 hour coup d'etat back in 2002.

This is great news for Venezuela.

Here is what Jimmy Carter said about Venezuela's "dictatorship" a few weeks ago: "As a matter of fact, of the 92 elections that we've monitored, I would say that the election process in Venezuela is the best in the world."

Carter won a Nobel prize for his work through the election-monitoring Carter Center, which has observed and certified past Venezuelan elections. But because Washington has sought for more than a decade to delegitimise Venezuela's government, his viewpoint is only rarely reported. His latest comments went unreported in almost all of the US media.

If Hugo was so confident in his ability to win, why send tanks out?

Because opposition groups have staged coups against him/what he represents in the past and since they knew that he would win another election maybe they wanted to attempt another coup? Why should a countries armed forces not be used to defend the rule of law in a country? I have no idea if there were actual tanks on the street or if the armed forces were used to safeguard election locations but given the countries recent past it would not in my opinion prove anything about elections in Venezuela...

FOr further reading about the run up to the election :

www.counterpunch.org...

I do agree that the significance of this election far exceeds that of whatever the US electorate may try ( since two of the last three elections were rigged&stolen) to decide soon. With events fast changing in the middle east and the Latin American revolution only deepening one can hope that unrest in Europe deepens and that we may continue to slow down the corporate capitalist takeover of the world.

Oh well!

Stellar

OHH MYY GOOODDDD

Horrible day for Venezuela. All the streets are quiet, no one is outside. We were fooled by Chavez and the oposition....

NOT EVERYONE HAD voted. In Venezuela you vote with machines (terrible idea) and they were causing a lot of delay. many people couldnt vote. The votes from London, werent even sent to the final scruteny.

Here is what happens:

Very close contact to Comando Venezuela, teh opposition, have clear results that we wont by 57% of the votes.
20 minutes later, tanks went out and the guards, Chavez ask for teh stage by Mradlores (presidential hosue) to be dismantle and they were plannign an auto-coup. There were tupamaros in Merida (militias) with guns sayin that apprentaly Chavez lost and if that was true, they would open fire.
Comando venezuela appenrtly had to do an agreedment and handle in the goverment.

I am extremely sad.. my dream to go bakc to my country is gone and here we are, until 2019. 20 years of goverment...

Numbers:
people registered to vote: 18, 803, 143 people
Participation: 80,94%
90% of tramission of votes were given in first bolletin: 13,770,184 votes

Hugo Chavez: 7,444,082
Capriles Radonski: 6,151,544
reina Sequera: 64,281 (I must say that last week a option for Capriles, the party "Unidad Democratica Venezolana" pronounced they no longer support Capriles. The voting card were already printed and couldnt changed. If people would vote for Unidad Democratica, the vote would go to Reina Sequera)
Luis Reyes: 7,772
Maria Bolivar: 6,979
Orlando Chirinos: 3,706
TOTAL VOTES: 13,678,364

Difference between transmission and total votes: 91,820

Where are the 293,954 nil votes between in here?

10% of the final votes would be: 1,530,020

We never got to see this votes. We don't know the final results.

The people who voted in New Orleans, the votes are only coming today so, the final results it is not what it seems.

IN Tweeter people when crazy saying that in different schools, the army was holding people who were in charge of the voting center hostage so they wouldn't give the final votes.

capriles-presidente07.blogspot.co.uk...

PEOPLE, THIS IS NOT A REALLY SOCIALISM. THIS IS COMMUNISM!!

Chavez wants to be there by TPTB PERIOD! I am surprised after so much lie, teh opposition didint go out and ask for a recount? They should have!

and to the people here that likes Chavez, YOU IGNORANT! Come to Venezuela and live in the shanti towns to see if you like it! and not in La Lagunita where the government ministers live, noooo! In Petare! In 23 de Enero,
So easy linking Chavez from a country in North America or Europe where sacrifice is nearly the kind of sacrifice we have in Venezuela.

He will leave power, for my people who ahve been killed by guns, for the millions they have stolen, for the masses they have lied they will get them houses and better life, for the militicias they have form to kill their own people, for the army who serve only their master, for the inequality, the hate!

Maybe we deserve this government for being such ignorant! As they say: Every nation deserves their president, but GOD? What horrible thing have we done???

My family is there, I don't know what to do... I am sooo worried. Now the militicias have power.. their master won.

and people from ATS, so many people with a nice piece of brain... why do you not see more than what it is shown to you? I am so disappointed.

Obviously you have no freaking idea of what has been happening in Venezuela...

First of all, the Venezuelan embassy closed and wouldn't let Venezuelns working and, or living abroad from voting when they claimed they would let these people vote...

By ALEX PENA

Oct. 8, 2012

With the Venezuelan consulate in Miami closed, an estimated 7,000 expatriates road-tripped to New Orleans this weekend to vote in the Venezuelan presidential election.

The day started in high spirits -- the vast majority hoped for a win by centerist opposition candidate Henrique Capriles -- but ended with a low, as standing president Hugo Chávez was re-elected by a 10 percent margin.

After hearing news of the vote, Venezuelans at the New Orleans convention center stood devastated and, in some cases, disbelieving.

"We just got the news that Chavez got 54 percent of the vote, and we don't believe that's the case," said Siul Narvaez. "You can not be ahead in the polls, and all of a sudden have a 10-point difference."

Second, they also closed for example a bridge that separates Venezuela with Colombia, and many Venezuelans braved the dangerous waters of the river even when the Chavistas closed the bridge not to allow Venezuelans living and/or working in Colombia return to vote.

In similar ways they stopped many people who were not chavistas from voting.

There were even confrontations in which Chavistas have opened fire against people in the opposition as they were trying to protest against Chavez.

Chavistas Open Fire

On 7 October, masked gunmen opened fire on student protestors in Caracas, Venezuela, who were returning from a protest against President Hugo Chavez's proposed Constitutional reforms. Thousands of students marched on the Supreme Court protesting the reforms, which Chavez proposes to pass by referendum and critics say consolidate executive powers, giving the President control of the Central Bank, abolishing presidential term limits, expanding state of emergency powers, and creating new provinces to be governed by centrally appointed officials. These authoritarian changes are paired with populist measures like reducing the voting age and decreasing the hours of the maximum work day. Chavistas Open Fire

This is not the only incident...

Shooting at Opposition March in Venezuela Leaves at Least Two Dead

By Rachael Boothroyd

Caracas, September 30 2012 (Venezuelanalysis) – At least two men lost their lives at a march for the Venezuelan opposition candidate, Capriles Radonski, on Saturday, after a gunman opened fire in the western state of Barinas. The incident took place a day ahead of the Venezuelan opposition's closing march in the capital Caracas and just a week before the country's presidential elections next Sunday.

Omar Ramón Fernández, 63, and Antonio Valero Ávila, 32, both died in hospital following the incident, which allegedly involved a supporter of the governing United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV). The national coordinator of the opposition coalition MUD, Julio Borges, has also claimed that a third man was killed later on Saturday evening, but has not identified the victim or provided any further details.

Venezuela Opposition Presidential Candidate Capriles Rally Attacked by Gunmen (VIDEO)
Red shirted supporters of left-wing Venezuela President Hugo Chavez fired shots at a crowd of Opposition supporters gathered for a rally with Opposition presidential candidate Henrique Capriles Radonski. While Capriles was not injured, the son of prominent Opposition Congressman Ismael Garcia was wounded from a bullet in the attack in the Caracas barrio of Cotiza, in west Caracas.

These, and other similar dirty tactics have been used, and are being used by chavistas in power, and even by regular ignorant chavistas to intimidate, scare, and put pressure on the opposition, so that their messiah could be put in power again even after all the dictatorial legislation Chavez put in motion in Venezuela.

Not to mention that the people, and woman who announced the winner, are ALL supporters of Chavez...

There was no free, or fair election in Venezuela...
