I'm sure that many have noticed that the average topic on most alternative 'press' forums has been going down in terms of how interesting, thoughtful, insightful the post is to read.

Not to say that I'm an old-timer in this world-- far from it; but I might have to say that in my humble opinion this site and pretty much every other 'alt-media' site has become so filled with unreadable drivel that it is not entertaining anymore.

One could argue that it's a testament to the success of ATS, BIN, Alex Jones et al, VC, and all the rest for opening up all of our eyes so that we may subtly push others to snap out of the common media-instigated malaise. It could be that so many people of all walks of life have realized that the MSM is not something in which we should all trust and believe, and therefore the good and the bad have increased their participation in the Alt-media... but why then is there no good writing (with very few exceptions).

Why is the spelling always so bad?
Why is there no rational argument behind most posts?
Why are most things in the Alt-media written in a way that bases the assertions on questionable statements without any evidence to back them up?

Here's the shock answer:

It's not Disinfo. It's not malicious trolling by nefarious Illuminati. and it's most certainly not benign, innocent internet banter.

It's MARKETING! And you all are buying it hook, line, and sinker.

This is a religion, and we all are tithing.

It's not a bad thing, but now that the entertainment value is so much lower I think I'm over it.

To those of you that are entertaining writers operating this site, Thank you. It's been great entertaining myself.

Peace.

Those that know how to yhink for themselves need no teachers.

Its not about the media stories, its about learning how to interpret your own opinion to discover the facts.

Take for example the recent news on "Syria Bombing Turkey"?

I looked at it this way, wouod syria benefit from attacking Nato? No. Who would benefit from attacking Nato? The rebels.

This simple fact, along with other reports from syrian officials leads me to the only conclusion that the rebels and turkey are in cahoots and the rebels are attacking turkey to open up a corridor along the border for the rebels to take over.

This has now happened with Syria moving forces away from the border region at the request of Turkey. Now the rebels have "just moved thier headquarters into those regions"

No, the answer is because articles here are written by people from all walks of life.

I love ATS because I get to see real, honest opinions from ordinary people. I dont care if they dont spell correctly, or dont sound like professional reporters writing for the New York Times.

It often surprises me how often *disinfo* is levelled at people with different opinions.

It never surprises me when someone with no signs of an intellectual heartbeat feels able to accuse an educated (even specialised) person of spreading *disinfo.*

Objectively, it's unavoidable that alt:subcultures will attract a higher proportion of uneducated people than the average population. It's the lack of subject knowledge that prevents them from seeing why their chosen flavour of conspiracy is wrong. At the same time, ideally, by increased exposure to actual facts or links to people who are experts....maybe they'll become more informed and insightful?

That said, alt:subcultures have a core of decent, intelligent people who are worth paying attention to. Not necessarily agreeing all the time, just enjoying the discussion.

There's simply too much right-wing/tea party drivel on this site.

It's fun to watch the folks of that inclination paint all their opponents as this, that and everything in-between. They're just preaching to the choir and they hate it when someone calls them out.

You're right! We need to get rid of anyone who disagrees with us! Can we just ban everyone that doesn't pass the purity test?

Just because those views are different, doesn't mean that they're not ignorant.

Trust me, every time someone throws around the word "liberal", 50 others latch onto it with their own version of the drivel they've seen on Fox News.

So we just get rid of the ignorant people that think differently!

I might be a tad paranoid, but in my experience most of the "news" I get is designed to somehow mislead me. The alternative press might be filled with things that are nowhere near being credible. Mainstream news is designed to be credible. So, my experience is that the alternative media are not great liars. It's easier to realize that their information might not be entirely accurate. In mainstream media, all sorts of people lend their credibility to the people in power. They are better at selling the lies. I'd rather have badly wrapped lies than polished ones. And, in the alternative media I might find information that really tells me what's on the horizon.

My metaphor would be something like this: Mainstream media is like mining rocks. They are plain, but sturdy. Alternative media is gravel, but you might find a gem or two. For the record, I use both sources and make up my own mind.

The alt-media has grown up, very big audience now, TPTB took a notice and applied countermeasures.
It cannot close all alt-media sites, but at least it can populate it with paid posters, get control over the most important alt-media to protect those and to ban the most prominent contributors of dangerous info.
Bigger audience - lower average level of posts.
As simple as that.

I am picturing a hamster right now in a spinning wheel inside a cage with "ATS" on all sides and a lid entitled "Truthmovement". Getting some water boy? It's over on the left near the food cup entitled "human philosophy". If you can't find it right away, there's a sign that says "false religion" that points in the right direction.

When I was younger I had a hamster, I always left the cage open and let him run free in my room. If you feel like going on a trip, watch this playlist and other similar playlists from the same youtube channel:

Debunking

Now the first video in that playlist already demonstrates the point I just made so I'll post it here directly:

EDIT: note that in my worldview the person in the video above is right now on that waterbottle I designated as "false religion". But at least it's 1 step up from the spinning wheel (I probably should have designated the spinning wheel as "the Truth Movement", but whatever, it's the concept that matters, and the person in the video is at least beginning to understand the concept).
