Being poor isn't an excuse to kill, rape, and pillage. If it is, then they are going to have to die or rot in prison. This Detroit thing pisses me off. Gang members should live in fear of the constitution and the hammer of the American people. The military.

Gang members should live in terror. They aren't. The police obviously cannot maintain order. Send us in, we WILL restore order in reverence to the constitution or die trying. However, I don't think the gangs are going to put up much of a fight when they notice they die much faster to a well-trained and equipped aggressive war machine.

Yeah, the state of existence right now in Detroit is unconstitutional. Peace is not being maintained.

How dare the government / state permit her citizens to walk in their town and city with fear of violence of a hostile military force. What the hell do you think fighting men, and women are for? Just to look pretty? No, we fight for the American people.

Man, this is crazy. Detroit is worse off than Baghdad. Which was an utter ..... Specific kind of hole.

I agree. I am not suggesting to go buy a home in Detroit. Just trying to show just how far things have declined is all. Fact is, the idea of buying a 3 bedroom home for $100 is unheard of in any other city anywhere else in the US. It would not happen. As bad as things were last year in many places, and still are today, you can not find a house for such a low price. However, in Detroit you can and it has been this way for several years now.

They need to send in the State Militia. Let them clean it up. Show that us citizens can do it without more Federal intervention.

I am not so sure a State Militia can do the job. Detroit is a rather large City. The best thing that could happen would be for the citizens to clean it up themselves. Unfortunately the law is against such actions. Citizens would have to be prepared to kill off the violent drug dealers, violent drug users and predators. They would be forced to defend themselves and the law is not on their side in this respect.

Pure evil, and you know why?

Since those notices have been put up the city, and the police force are no longer liable for wrongful death law suits.

Think.

You sure about that? I know in 2010 the City was sued for wrongful death when serving a warrant looking for a suspect when a 7 year old child sleeping on the couch was shot and killed. Police claimed the gun accidentally discharged in a struggle with family members. Video taped footage showed police released flash bang grenades and fired shots upon entry. Over a 3 year period the City paid out roughly 20 million in lawsuits ranging from wrongful death to violations of constitutional rights, assault and battery and false arrest and imprisonment, and all this happened while under Federal oversight which they have been since 2003.

Detroit is nearly 83% black.

And they also have one of the largest black police forces in the Country with roughly 73% of all sworn Officers being black and many non black officers making claims of racism and discrimination. Frankly I don't think color has much to do with anything. If it was an all white city with roughly 50% unemployment, you would still see the same level of crime and violence. People have turned to drugs to make a living. Since drugs are illegal, it is up to the dealers to protect their own supplies. We saw the same thing in inner cities during prohibition around the time of the Great Depression.

These were my thoughts as well. It certainly fits their MO, everyone has seen the suspect behavior of "anarchists" during many protests and many believe these to be government minions unleashed in an effort to justify police and National Guard involvement. Creating a violent end to a protest serves two very important purposes firstly it immediately ends the propagation of whatever idea was being expounded upon. Secondly it reduces as a whole the population's desire to protest due to fear.

It is possible that the violence in Detroit is being bolstered or even instigated. If this is the situation then i believe the government will send in troops military or otherwise, the violence will be quickly suppressed creating a situation that the government can point to when they decide to come to any other city to "help"

"We're not creating a police state we're just coming to assist, like we did in Detroit. It's for your own good."

My personal experiences in Detroit are as follows,
1975 was a fantastic visit for a rock concert at Cobo hall.

Had cony dogs after and a few beers in the parking lot all was good and fun.

1989 went back for the same thing at Cobo hall and when leaving we were called white bread.

1992 was my last trip there, leaving Cobo hall once again we were harassed and called lots of names being mainly due to our skin colour and our Canadian license plates on our car.

We foolishly stopped at a local Mcd's and the police inside escorted us right back out to our car and followed us for about 5 miles.

The cop was so amazed that we even entered that restaurant he was speechless for a few seconds, then asked us why we had a death wish......I kid you not all of the above is true.

The last visit was a bit of an eye opener as we never had seen armed police in a Mcd's up to that point in life.

We also met a lot of great people but the death threats overshadowed the last trip.

My two cents worth, and hell no I would never go back there again and no disrespect intended to the people of Detroit.

Regards, Iwinder

Thank god that cop was stationed in that McDonalds to keep white people out.
You might have been called more names.

No offense but trying to say Detroit is a warzone makes sense. Trying to point it out by saying you were called names does not. I was called honky through my entire childhood and I survived. No cop ever came and escorted me out of the ghetto I grew up it.

Remarkably being called honkey did not leave and PTSD at all. I got over it. You might too. I know Canadians are more polite than us and all on the average but damn that is a sad example.

Feeling sick and being medicated makes this place awesome.

I read the thread title and click on the thread and see it is a warzone. You got called whitebread.
My god, are you ok??????????????
Do you need anything?

Well in my opinion when a Detroit cop tells you that death is a very real possibility, if you insist on staying where you are you better listen and listen good.

Obviously being called whitebread did not deter us from stopping for some food, the cops concern for our lives was the major reason for our hasty exit and was the reason for my not ever returning there.

Hell, buy a street and get all your mates to move in.
I reckon you could clean up one street at a time if you're all of the right mind set (and well armed).

as flippant as that remark was, you might just be on to something. get people to buy up areas probably on the fringes, and work their way in. forget guns, that could be taken as rather aggressive by gun happy bangers. but maybe GIVE some of the money saved on the purchase of the land to the police force, one way of increasing their numbers. clean up small areas at a time. just maybe the city can be taken back, not by force, but by making it livable. even better get some more industry in to provide work for people, along with it. just maybe if people can see life coming back to the city it will help push the gang problem out. if people see HOPE it can cause them to regain some of their pride. if one sees no hope they will turn to whatever they can just to survive. you may even see people trying to repair where they live if they see others doing the same. after all why put in any work in a place that is a dump? there doesn't seem to be a point in fixing a place that is surrounded by wrecks. might even make you a target. but if even small areas are being rebuilt then why wouldn't people want to fix their place as well? and if you have a nice place you would probably want to get rid of the gangs, thereby cutting some of the apathy towards getting rid of the gang problem.

heck just the taxes from people buying property in the city would be a big help, more people more tax money to be had, just make sure to get decent people into the city counsel. after all the real underlining problem was everyone who could afford to moving away, so people moving back in should help fix the problem. it would likely be a hard go especially at the beginning, but if people continued to move in and stick it out you would stop some of the issues with just sheer mass of people.

Maybe there's an opportunity right now in Detroit to set up an "Adventure Tourism" business. You'd call it surviving an economic collapse. The tour would consist of a group of you being dropped off on foot with just some simple bags in a bad area of town. Your goal would be to start by getting into one of the many abandon houses for shelter. And then working as a team you'd have to find your way on foot at night across the city. sleeping in abandon houses by day, seeing how far you can hike by night. And sort of pretending that you're in the middle of a collapsed city. What do you think?

what about a Bus load of Aussie whitebread doing a night tour of Detroit?
eheh joke

i am an Aussie whitebread, i am learning the lingo

to a tourist from overseas it would have curiosity draw to see it but not to live it

all western countries will decline unless we make stuff, if it wasnt for mining Australia would produce fa

the mining wont last long so unless we want to be born in a poor country we better take action
i also think some industries need tarrifs

we have gone from tarrif to no tarrif and low wages and low currency China, its not anywhere near an even playing field we are screwed if we dont think

Ross Perot knew what would happen as soon as he heard about NAFTA, maybe he has ideas but i woulnt make him president

the council argument was not that bad, to me it was just 1 rude women, they need support and sack the difficult one

buying cheap Chinese junk is actually more expensive for many things
every year i had to by a new kettle, no worries its only $10
but about 5 years ago for $30 i bought a nice kettle its glass with steel bottom, German made and still looks like new

we are getting a raw deal as we could be making things like that, they are more expensive but last
i watched a bit of that show where those two guys go picking and all the old stuff was usa made and strong mate

the Germans are doing well with high tech, quality stuff

people like to buy cheapest junk they can find, but its ends up costing way more, we need to look into it and do a doco, this chinese junk is good landfill

We need to mature as people and a civilisation, Here is advice from our ancestors

This is a surprise to anyone? The former mayor goes to prison, urban blight, wild animals roaming the streets, hoodlums committing crimes with impunity, rancor and raucous at city hall, and widespread unemployment. How much longer until the the police just walk off the job over inadequate wages, administrative corruption, and over work? We could see for the first time that I can recall, law enforcement officers leaving their posts? It is clear by that warning, that apparently, the police are having a difficult time maintaining law and order in the city? Although, it could be the union pouring it on about their current contract?

The Motor City does battle with unions

In this case, Detroit decided to impose a new contract on the police union without entering negotiations, leading several union leaders to file suit, alleging that the city has a legal duty to bargain under Public Act 312.

However, the court rejected the union’s argument and sided with the state and Murphy who argued that Public Act 312 only applies to current contracts. Because the police union’s contract had expired, the statute was inapplicable.

It sounds to me that the city pulled a fast one on the police, and it seems to be legal? The city is hemmoraging money, and everyone knows that. Although to sneak in a new contract without any collective bargaining at the time of contract negotiations sounds more like a hustle than honest city governance? However, it appears the police union was not even given an opportunity to weigh-in on the parameters of this latest contract? To expect the police officers who risk their lives everyday in one of the most dangerous cities in the country, working 12s, being expected to perform their duties with shoddy equipment, and stark pay cuts without a say by about their current contract is unreasonable? Yet, the city has the gall and audicity to sneak a new contract? That is cold! I wonder if the city politicians and bureaucrats are taking similar cuts to their salary and benefits? I wonder? In the meantime, it seems the city's underbelly is lavishing in Pure Michighan!

So I've only read the first page of comments here and I think most of you are out of touch. Detroit is not nearly that bad. I am in Detroit EVERYDAY.
I suspect this has something to do with the cops wanting prop 2 passed here in MI. We are bombarded right now with ads showing teachers, firefighters and cops telling us we need to vote yes on 2.

This is BS quit spreading the crap.

I was kind of curious as to why that image of the warning in the OP had at least 3 baseball references in it, seemed like some kind of ad or something.. so out of place
