I believe it was a forthright statement.
I also believe that no serious intelligent discussion can come of it.
And in my opinion there-in lies the problem.

That video of the city council is just an absolute disgrace. That city is doomed beyond comprehension since it's obvious they are being run by a bunch of 88's. There really just aren't any words to describe the type of problems that we are facing in this country.

interesting try by the union to get more money, and yes they need it. BUT where would the money come from? what is not given in the story or the pamphlet is the fact that THERE IS NO MONEY. this was made very clear on the news as bickering in city counsel about what to do and something about federal government taking over things to do with money since the city is well BEYOND BROKE. so how are they supposed to hire more cops and pay cops more? the city has had major issues (like many big US cities), ever since everyone started to move to the suburban areas for better living and more space, and the fact that city taxes were extremely high. that left only the poorer people who could not afford to move, that combined with so much abandoned buildings gave gangs a good place to play and have since pretty much given them control at night. during the day the city is generally safe unless you wander into the wrong areas.

this is the same as MANY US cities. heck after 4pm in most of the big cities i have been to even McDonalds are closed. (one reason i am worried about Toronto's taxes getting higher and higher i don't want the same thing to happen there). just think that better city management and lower taxes YEARS BACK would have stopped the problem. but sadly the government turned a blind eye to the issue way back then and now it has become a major problem. we are after all talking about the city that needed to replace their hockey stadium because of poor attendance due to the fact if you took a bus you might get robbed, if you drove your car would likely be stolen, and THAT happened years and years back :shk: shame they didn't try to solve the problem even just that far back.

i have been IN Detroit a few times over the last few months. i was IMPRESSED with all the work they have done to clean up the waterfront (at least partially paid for by GM). my father who was brought up just outside Detroit was also very impressed. i saw NO problems at all, even a lot of people strolling around with their kids. but i am well aware that day and night are completely different. it is safe during the day, but deadly at night, when the gangs are in charge.

the only way to FIX the problem is to somehow GET the city MONEY, not to mention getting JOBS back as well. maybe instead of giving away millions and billions of dollars to countrys that HATE the US. a small portion of that could be BETTER spent on police and other emergency services that are also in short supply. as well as cleaning up and getting JOBS BACK in the area. and the best way to get jobs back (not just in Detroit but in ALL of the US). is to STOP MANUFACTURING EVERYTHING OVERSEAS, as well as all the other OUTSOURCING of jobs to other countries.

Detroit is a GOOD EXAMPLE of the harm high taxes, and big businesses sending away work can cause. as well as government mismanagement that has gone on over 60 years.

Sounds like Detroit needs the national guard. The last thing you want to do is attack the United States military. If its this bad, a state of emergency needs to be declared and we need to go in and wipe out the gangs

Seriously, if its that bad, request the national guard and declare marshal law.

The gangs are a domestic threat. They need to be eliminated. They need to know they have no power. The United States military will and can break them. They can give up in peace or die, either way.

What is wrong with that? If we have to kill 10,000 gang members so be it. If 10,000 has to be arrested, so be it. What they are doing isn't a revolution, but profiteering off human suffering. Gangs are a hostile military force and should be dealt with. Whether they forfeit their lives or get jobs, either way.

This is 2012, our military is much more efficient and advanced.

I agree with this 100% Our country should not let a city fall out like this. It needs to be cleaned up at cost. A military intervention if necessary. Gangs can't be allowed to take over a city. Next thing you know you will have a much larger problem on your hand when they start to form their own government and claim they are no longer bound by US laws.

Exactly. These people have no respect for the law or constitution. They aren't rebelling or revolting in the name of the constitution, but in the name of evil. They need to be broken and the people who obey the law and respect the constitution needs to be protected.

The gangs will die, either voluntarily or forcibly.

This is one of the few times I believe in marshal law. If 50,000 military personnel has to be deployed to Detroit, so be it.

Detroit has always been dangerous I've lived in the suburbs my whole life. I have all kinds of stories. Back in the mid 90's I was coming home from a rave at 3 am. My car broke down in one of the worst parts of Detroit. My girlfriend and I asked some guy for help. He flagged down a car full of brothers. He asked them if they'd give us a ride. They said "not the guy but we'll give the girl a ride". My girlfriend and I started walking home and there were car loads of brothers that kept circling us. My girlfriend started crying and freaking out. We saw a cop car coming down the road. I ran out in the road and tried to flag them down to ask for help. They looked and kept on going. A few minutes later I was able to flag a cab down. I didn't have any money but she gave us a ride home for free. She said she couldn't live with herself if she had left us.

I could go on and on about the things I've experienced living here. I've been shot at and robbed. My exgirlfriends sister was stabbed in the throat on prom night on the way to the prom. My buddy was driving down the road and someone randomly shot at his car with a 12 gauge. The slug went though the back door of his car and hit his buddy in the kneecaps. I live 2 blocks from the city limits. I hear gunshots almost every night. I hear fully automatic assault riffles.

I think they should barricade the city in and napalm it citizens and all.

Well I am going to go with all the black people that I grew up around. Being the only white person on my street and one of only 7 in my high school, I got a lot of exposure and they do not agree with you. In the meantime, I asked a black friend.

Her response "Hunky? Why the hell would it be Hunky? That does not even have any roots in the words origin. It has always been a short o and when the hell did white people get to tell us how to spell our slang!!!????!?!?"

She thinks hunky means what I do. Hunkey- someone with hunk like qualities.

But hey, you asked someone 40 years ago so I am sure you know more what you are talking about. I only grew up surrounded by it and asked someone in the last hour. Obviously you are one up on me there.

the problem is that for every "gang banger" killed scores of people who's only real crime is being poor would also end up being killed. and being poor is generally the CAUSE of people joining gangs to begin with.

no before they send in troops guns blazing something FIRST needs to be done to either figure a way to get ALL non gang bangers out before hand (good luck). or figure out a way to improve things in such a way that "GANG LIFE" is not seemingly the only option. i understand that joining a gang is almost mandatory if you wish to survive. so even "gang members" in some cases could be well not innocent but not really deserving of death/heavy prison time. it is a vicious circle in a lot of ways. "dammed if you do, dammed if you don't"

and just think of the riots starting out everywhere else as you should know dammed well that it will become a RACE ISSUE, if the military/national guard are called in. no brute force is not the way to go on this, at least until every other option is tried and failed.

no what Detroit needs is a major cash infusion, for things like emergency services, JOBS, helping rebuild what is now slums. deal with the ISSUES that cause THE PROBLEM. then at the same time start in on the criminal element. heal the disease before putting the patient down. just because it is easier to kill then to heal, does not mean you shouldn't try everything to cure the disease first. then you can amputate only what is needed, while leaving a live patient.
