Actually we did not assist them. We outright supplied them with chemical weapons. As a matter of fact after the 1993 gulf war Iraq agreed to give up all WMD programs. Since blind hatred towards the US blinds some people, the US and UK, among a few other countries, maintained the no fly zones in Iraq aftrer that war. Iraq agreed to cooperate with the UN, which they failed to follow through on.

Since you seem to be ignoring it, I will say it again. Iraq had a WMD program in violation of their agreements signed in 1993. Wikileaks confirmed Iraq had an active WMD program up to the 2003 invasion, and since then they had found wmd items up until our withdraw.

Way to try and deflect though...

To mention they had a chemical weapons program whilst omitting this key fact is typical patriotic bias.

Again you should get your facts straight. Iraq said they gave them up at the end of the 1st gulf war. Turns out they lied.

Something you and others are biased against while making the attempt to lay total blame on everything at the US doorstep.

Do you not see it as an issue that the US supplied WMD to Iraq? and that the policy is to get as many weapons into the region so they all destroy each other (Israel included)

Which has nothing to do with the topic - That the US lied when we went into Iraq. Wikileaks confirmed there were wmd programs still active.

The U.S desperately want Iran to build a bomb that's why they gave them the blueprints

Please provide evidence that the US supplied Iran with the blue prints for a nuclear bomb.

In case you are confused and meant nuclear power plants the UN program designed to assist nations who wish to develop a nuclear energy program uses blueprints from the US, Russia, France etc etc etc. Once again you are blinded by your issues with the US and ignore all other info that doesnt suport your position.

"But it's worse than that. Deep in the bowels of the CIA, someone must be nervously, but very privately, wondering: "Whatever happened to those nuclear blueprints we gave to the Iranians?"

Yeah having a Russian national as a double agent for the CIA who identifies an intentional flaw in the design so it blows up in the Iranians face, who then corrects the flaw to assist the Iranains, doesnt equate into your accusation.

The U.S is frustrated Iran hasn't built a bomb, Iran is damned if it does and damned if it doesn't.

Then explain the sanctions we have on them. I always enjoy when people try to make a point while ignoring all other actons that dont support your conclusion.

Not really but fantasy land is always fun for some people.

The opening thread is "IRAN LIE same as IRAQ LIE"

The answer is yes it is the same lie.

The U.S supplied Iraq with WMD and the expertise, that expertise does not vanish when they are told not to play with them anymore. You teach a crazy dictator how to build WMD bad things will happen.

The majority of the work on the Nuclear plans was done, one obvious flaw was placed simply so the Iranians didn't get too suspicious.

"The Russian, who had defected to the US years earlier, still couldn't believe the orders he had received from CIA headquarters. The CIA had given him the nuclear blueprints and then sent him to Vienna to sell them - or simply give them - to the Iranian representatives to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). With the Russian doing its bidding, the CIA appeared to be about to help Iran leapfrog one of the last remaining engineering hurdles blocking its path to a nuclear weapon. The dangerous irony was not lost on the Russian - the IAEA was an international organisation created to restrict the spread of nuclear technology."

I think if the U.S gave plans to the Iranians then it is fair to put some blame there. I don't believe these actions were stupid, these were actions intended to entrap Iran.

Everyone should read 'State of War' by James Risen these whistleblowers keep coming.. The only way to prevent getting bumped off is to write a book and get it out there quickly!

Sanctions are designed to kill people and destabilize a country. In the end the sanctions kill more people than the dictator they are trying to depose.

"UN Says Sanctions Have Killed Some 500,000 Iraqi Children"

More people will die in Iran when the West or Israel start a conflict than if they were left in peace.

Evolution not revolution. Here is a strategy spend all that money that will be dropped in the form of bombs, on humanitarian projects to solve famine.

“I had a vision of a way we could have no enemies ever again, if you’re interested in this. Anybody interested in hearing this?
“It’s kind of an interesting theory, and all we have to do is make one decisive act and we can rid the world of all our enemies at once.
“Here’s what we do. You know all that money we spend on nuclear weapons and defense every year?
“Trillions of dollars.
“Instead, if we spent that money feeding and clothing the poor of the world, which it would pay for many times over, not one human being excluded … not one … we could as one race explore inner and outer space together in peace, forever.”

– Bill Hicks
