I have two .

Heights and spiders.

The thing with spiders is that if they get to close for comfort,I just squash them.

The thing with heights, well thats a whole different ball game..

For the last 25 years,I have worked on elevators.
Yes,my ass would be hanging out and staring down an elevator shaft from at least 25 stories up or more.

The adrenaline rush as gotten to become more extreme as I age.
When I pop open that outside door with my special key and peak in the see where my elevator is ,because I ride on top of them,if it's not where I want it to be to safely access it,I start shaking.
Just a minor tremble but, still, the fear is there.
I face it multiple times a day and deal with it.
It's my job.
I remember when I first started and I would have to walk out across a 4 inch beam to install a guide rail.
I could hardly see the guy below me,we communicated with radios.
That was when I was younger and invincible.

So now,I just ignore it and carry on.
And be very cautious in my steps.

What is your biggest fear and how do you deal with it.

Spiders...and I deal with it usually by freaking the hell out meanwhile It is absolutely mandatory that it be killed before I can rest. I have to verify the corpse as well...otherwise I feel like its unaccounted for and sneaking up on me...and ill keep feeling things crawling on me...its tragic and hilarious...

Yeah, with spiders, I have to flush them down the toilet, twice.

Check out this monster.

Other than telling one woman that I'm madly in love with her, I have yet to discover something that I am afraid of.
But I will have the opportunity to fix that in a few weeks.

Yeah happened to me aswell.
The fact that they got you locked up doesn't bother me, it bothers me that they can pretty much do w/e they want with you and you cant really do anything to stop them.

Have you ever encountered a banana spider (golden silk spider) in the south?

I once poked a cigarette at one, and it took it. Aggressive bastards.

Snap! Spiders and heights also.

With spiders, i generally don't deal with it (i am ashamed to admit). Instead, i generally stand frozen to the spot whilst staring at the spider in question (usually only tiny things too!). Occasionally, i muster the determination to squish said critter but not always..........and if it is night i usually then don't sleep!

Heights is a weird one for me. I have absolutely no problems in airplanes, on high buildings (such as the Eiffel Tower) or even up most trees. But then, very occasionally, i find myself somewhere high up and it terrifies the bejesus out of me. However, i do find this is one i can confront and deal with.

Unlike the spiders............

So,wow!!!
I'm watching this show on the history channel, called How The Earth Made Man,and they were discussing the basis of our primal fears.
Spiders and snakes top the list because we,as primates, lived in trees.

What got me was the comparison of the sound of someone dragging their nails across a chalk board.
It turns out it was closely related to a monkeys cry in the dark to warn the others of danger.

One question. If your so bloody terrified of heights, why the hell did you become an elevator repair man?

In all seriousness, heights is about the only thing my body has a reaction with, I wouldn't call it a fear more over it just reacts with me. It is an immense feeling of uneasyness and involuntary leg trembles. I call it a respect for heights lol.

Because the money is really good and the insurance is even better!
We have a death benefit in case something happens and I fall or lose a limb.
I think I get $5000 for a finger.

My biggest fear is the consequence of letting my guard down. It's unfortunate, but I don't trust anyone anymore. In the past, I continually gave people the benefit of the doubt in attempt to be different than those who never gave me a chance. Each time I've done so, it bit me in the ass.

How do I deal with it? I tolerate it. Refusing to trust others on any level inhibits me, sure, but it's better than being stabbed in the back once again.
