I thought it looked like a creature too..

I agree especially the ones that seem to make the water marks at an angle. Make me wonder what happened to shift the earth like that. Or even the ones that run horizontal. Very interesting world we live in.

Beautiful,

Oh and I've never heard of a penis called a "fairy's chimney" before

Yeah that's what I'm going to call mine from now on. Heh just kidding everybody. Nice pictures. Devil's tower is probably my favorite from it's use in the movie Close encounters of the Third Kind.

The world is just to darn awesome!

Those boulders from New Zealand are interesting, do we have any budding geologists on ATS who want to give a commentary on the formation of these structures?

The first thing I thought of when I saw the Exerenstiene and the Giants Causeway is that if the rover sent back pictures of rock formations like that, or if anything was snapped like that from the moon, there would be immediate cries for ancient civilizations. Especially the Causeway pic, the ground rocks and the rock formations to the right appear very symmetrical. In a grainy, black and white image one could take that for some sort of man made structure even though we know they are not.

Great pics. I'd love to visit these places, but thanks to you I DID get to see these landmarks.

Torghatten in Norway is quite a spectacular landmark I would say.

According to legend, the hole was made by the troll Hestmannen while he was chasing the beautiful girl Lekamøya. As the troll realized he would not get the girl, he released an arrow to kill her, but the troll-king of Sømna threw his hat into the arrow's path to save her. The hat turned into the mountain with a hole in the middle.

Not sure about that however! But interesting feature nontheless.

The rocks at Brimham has been sandblasted into shape - so it all part of one rock. It is amazing to see as the rock featured Idol Rock weighs 200 tons.

Here's one from my old stompin' grounds...I think it fits the theme of the OP nicely! It's called Balanced Rock and it's near Buhl, Idaho

Just goes to show that formations like these can happen naturally...

Things on Mars were not built by aliens.
