Turkey strikes Syrian targets

www.guardian.co.uk

Turkey's military have struck targets inside Syria in response to a mortar bomb fired from Syrian territory which killed five Turkish civilians, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's office said in a statement.

The mortar fired from the Syrian side into the region of Akçakale sparked an urgent round of meetings with military chiefs and led the Turkish foreign minister, Ahmed Davagotlu, to formally complain to UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon.

It appears that the boiling point in the region is exploded. Turkey couldn't take anymore the attitude from Syria and launched the attack most of us feared it would happen. Hopefully this conflict won't escalate to other hot spots in the region. On the other hand turkish military seam to be very determined especially after after the claim from Erdogan that made it clear to the military: Attack every syrian military position.

This is just what the octor ordered for the nato crowd.....they are slavering at the bit to crush the Assads and take on Iran.....
This was not nessessarily a Syrian shell even ....they have not proved that, and it certainly could have been an instigation by the FSA, to get Turkey involved......id say lets be cautious before reacting violently, but thats already too late, and hotter heads have prevailed.
What Syria does is crucial now....should they respond in kind, an invasion would be likely, and Turkey then would be facing the chem weapons of Syria....(as Assad has promised)
The S may very well have HTF now.......

Um no, that would be Syria. Syria can't control the idiots in it's country who lobbed mortars over the border and killed 5 innocent people. I'd do a lot more than Turkey is doing right now. Turkey didn't start anything, but they will finish it if Assad can't get his people under control.

Oh please, neither one of them is going to risk their national security over the matter and they have already stated it. As long as the U.S. doesn't get involved they aren't going to care.

Aha, I think you mean Austro-Hungary. That died in 1918 unfortunately. Although strictly speaking Hitler was Austrian, which is kind of bad publicity for Vienna.

Gave you a star but ...

As long as the U.S. doesn't get involved they aren't going to care.

should read, as long as the US does not escalate it's involvement.

It should be clear to all that all parties, including Iran are already involved on the conflict. That the Syrian conflict has only taken place, not because of a social revolutions, like in Tunisia or Egypt but in line with Libya an event promoted by external interests...

PS: And in Egypt that has started by popular demand has been co-opted by the Anglo-Americans interests, this will back fire again at a later date.
All this Arab Spring nonsense was hushed on by economic factors, jobs, food and oil prices, the social insatisfaction even it was latent was a created event (I wouldn't say engineered since it lacked precision).
