In 2007 - Sen. Obama, who was born in Hawaii and raised overseas, put on his best fake southern USA black accent, stood in front of a crowd of black folks, and pandered ... strongly insinuating that the governments response to Katrina was racist. Obama completely ignored the incompetence of ("chocolate city") Mayor Nagin and the fact that Democrat gov. of Louisianna, Kathleen Blanco, rejected federal aid until it was too late. Sen. Obama just continued his pandering ...

Perhaps Obama, who was deeply tied to the Black Liberation Theology group in Chicago , was just echoing the racist rhetoric he had submerged himself in for 20 years. Perhaps Obama actually believed what he was pumping out. Or perhaps it was just what it looks like ... Obama, with a fake accent, pandering.

This is one more story to add to the growing field of 'discovered' or 'uncovered' potentially damning videos and speeches made by both candidates. Honestly, there have been enough damning 'newly discovered' old stuff on both Romney and Obama to sink both of them. And yet ... they continue the power march forward. Geeeze America .. can't we do better than Obama or Romney?? UGH.

Video surfaces of Obama in 2007 suggesting racism slowed aid to post-Katrina New Orleans

In June 2007, then-Sen. Barack Obama told a mostly black audience of ministers that the country's leaders "don't care about" New Orleans residents, suggesting the city was neglected in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina because of institutional racism, according to an unedited video uncovered by The Daily Caller.

In the address, delivered during the upswing of the Democratic presidential primary season, candidate Obama specifically criticizes in outspoken terms the decision not to waive a federal law known as the Stafford Act that requires communities hit by disasters to match 10 percent of federal aid..

But the facts are ..

By January 2007, nearly a year and a half after Hurricane Katrina hit, the federal government had committed $110 billion to relief efforts in areas hit by Katrina through a variety of programs, including Community Development Block Grants, funding for the Corps of Engineers and Small Business Administration loans, according to a report that May by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic and Statistics Administration

The people of New Orleans have a city built in a bowl that is lower than sea level; next to the ocean; and in an area that gets hit by major hurricanes. They want the rest of the country to completely rebuild that every time it gets nailed? That's insane.

This video proves that Obama is happy to play the race card when it suits him, which is, all things considered, a disgraceful thing for an American president to do.

He fake Southern accent is also rather fake.

The puzzling thing is that almost all Afro-Americans vote for him anyway. Why the need to play the race card and put on a fake accent when addressing them?

How is this an different than a KKK grand dragon telling his followers that black people are out to get them? Its the exact same kind of racial fear mongering that we see from the likes of the New Black Panthers and skin heads. How can Obama supporters just wave this off?

Also, I thought he never listened to Jeremiah Wright? Here he gives him shout outs and regurgitates the same rce baiting bile.

Well I must be an anomaly, because I'm black and I didn't vote for him. I wouldn't vote for any of the thieving bastards in Washington. I really don't see why everyone is bickering over a rigged fight. NONE of them give a sh!+ about any of us, black, white, or in between, they only care for power and green. You can bet your a$$ on that.

This was already posted so I'm just gonna copypasta

LMAO @ Baracks fake down south accent.

But race did play a part in Katrina...perceptions at least. People that pretend it doesn't is living in fantasy world.

The black people are looters while the white people are just trying to survive......

There is absolutely nothing racist in this Obama vid, from what I've heard so far. The right wing needs to stop, you just keep embarrassing yourself to normal people.

Someone quote the racist thing Obama said in this speech. Do itttttttttt.

He then segwayed into the New Orleans disaster of hurricane Katrina, saying, “Look at what happened along the Gulf Coast –people asked me whether I thought race was the reason the response was so slow. ‘I said no, this administration was color-blind in it’s incompetence’ but everyone here knows that the disaster and the poverty happened long before the hurricane hit. All the hurricane did was make bare what we ignore each and every day which is there are whole sets of communities that are in poverty—whole sets of communities that don’t have meaningful opportunities—this disaster has been going on for generations. All the hurricane did was pull back the screen.”

^ How's that racist? Obama said he thought the Bush admin was COLOR BLIND when it came to Katrina.

I take it you didn't listen to any portion of the speech at all, he didn't politicize anything. He gave a speech to black people about black community problems.

Personally I think it was one hell of a speech.

He was telling the truth and there was no racism.

He's getting my vote. At least I know he's genuinely concerned about poor working folk, unlike that other guy.

Go listen to the speech then get back to me. It was a motivational speech, it had nothing to do with Katrina or politicizing it. You're sounding real ignorant right now.

I believe he was pandering, that's what politicians do.

Speaking of the quality of the candidates in this election, think about what we have had to choose from(both parties) since Ronald Reagan was elected.

This includes the likes of Dukakis, Bush, Bush, Dole, Gore, Quayle, Mondale, Edwards, Palin, McCain, Ferraro, Bentsen, Kemp, and Cheney.

What will most people see as the shining light during that time period..... Bill Clinton. Most people would take him back in a heartbeat. ( ETA: I am one of them)

Bill Clinton, the President that stained the Oval Office. He is the best that we have had in the last twenty-odd years.

I think it is sad.

Shock news! Politician acts like a politician!!!!!

Is this really thread-worthy? We know all politicians pander to their audience. You think Romney standing on a podium and disowning 47% of the American people as worthless is anything less than pandering to the right-wing elites funding his performance?

Incidentally, I believe it was racism.
You really think the same response would have been given to Texas? If you think a right-winger like Bush would have sat back and done nothing if the same was happening in Texas at that time you're delusional.

He gave a speech to black people?

What did he single a race out for?

ETA: Why do they have a separate community?

Get what facts straight? You're the one walking crooked. The speech had NOTHING to do with Katrina or politicizing it. It was about problems in the black community. You CLEARLY didn't listen.

Uhhhh, the speech was given at a BLACK college. Hence the black audience......

Hampton University is a historically black and Native American university located in Hampton, Virginia, United States. It was founded by black and white leaders of the American Missionary Association after the American Civil War to provide education to freedmen.

A black college?
Sounds racist to me.
Why are there 'black' colleges?
ETA: What was on his mind, speaking to a college that is known for racially separate?

Historically black. Go look up any of these historically black colleges and look at the charter date. These colleges are historically black because they were established in a time when segregation was in full affect. Currently, these historically black colleges have other races among their student body and faculty.

Quit playing ignorant.

ETA:

Historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) are institutions of higher education in the United States that were established before 1964 with the intention of serving the black community.
