From my experience, many super fit people HATE the look of overweight people.

In your experience, means what... You are overweight and you feel people hate the look of you? If that's the case it's an insecurity with yourself.

There are plenty of overweight people I know that don't gross out people around them. I reject your premise. Unless you are speaking about people with their own identity issues and simple work out beyond the normal amount to make up for them... Which is really just a mirrored version of anorexia. And they may hate the overweight person because they are afraid they could like like that. That's really an issue with themselves though, not the fattie.

Maybe it's all the people which self image problems that are bugging each other...

Yes it was bullying. It was not constructive in any way.

Or let me put it this way.

You're black. You should just change your skin color because you aren't a good role model for the kids. You should just quit you job because you can't be a good role model for the kids because you're black.

I'm sorry, but i will just not agree that that is not bullying. There is no difference between that using the word fat in place of black.

You can make the claim that it isn't, but that claim is crap.

It's bullying pure and simple.

If people in media addressed every bit of hate mail there was, we would have 100 channels of hate mail responses. Not a very pleasing entertainment selection.

It wasn't bullying, 1.

It was the husbands fault for posting it on Facebook that it became a public issue, which it shouldn't have been, 2.

Thanks for posting this. There is always 2 sides to a story, and in this case the man is correct. It may be abrasive perhaps callous but he has a good point. As i said earlier it's not a case of a bully but a mans opinion. www.abovetopsecret.com...

I agree with you.

You should report it to the mods.

There is an awful lot of bigotry in this thread.

But I guess society must always has its acceptable targets. The only thing they do is shift targets. Society has to hate people who are different than them and there is no reall acceptance of people who are different.

I'm sorry to say.

I would report it but all they would do is make another thread. And the troll who called someone a moralfag will get no more responses from me other than this which he does not even deserve anyway. I am surprised the MODS have not caught all the bigotry in this thread yet. Its a hard job though so its understandable.

Isn't that what i just said? All I'm saying is that so many people use the excuse that they were born with a bad metabolism or what not, without any proof. What i am saying is that i have hypothyroidism, actually went through tons of blood tests, and i can still maintain a healthy weight, despite my slow metabolism.

Yes, I don't think he was coming from a place of "caring."

Whether it's bullying or not isn't the big picture to me.

The big picture is giving unsolicited advice about the way someone looks, especially when it comes to a medical condition.

The big picture is so many feeling they should dictate how a person lives even if the way they are living is completely legal and then turning around in other threads preaching freedom.

The big picture is the rapid decline in this thread showing just how many people are absolutely prejudiced on the inside - unable to speak out against what they feel is wrong about obesity without using such classy words as "lardo" and "fatso."

That is hate speech and it shouldn't be allowed. It's disrespectful to your fellow human beings and it reflects badly on the author.

OK, I love a feel good story as much as the next person but here is the thread title

Bully Calls News Anchor Fat, News Anchor Destroys Him On Live TV

Bully - This is a subjective word which can mean pretty much whatever you want it to mean and be made to fit nearly any situation you wish it to.

Destroys him - I fail to see how anyone "destroyed" anyone else.

and finally.......can someone ANYONE please show me where ANYONE called ANYONE "FAT"?!?!?!?!

This is what the thread title SAYS so I expect to see it.
I want to see this "BULLY" (dunn dun duunnnnnn) call this "News Anchor "FAT".

Then, and only then, will this be a subject worth discussing as it is being presented to us.
Until then, this seems like the kind of story that fat people will rally around in order to feel better about themselves which is perfectly fine and normal. Hell, I watch TLC for just that reason. You can't come away from ANY of their shows without feeling just a little better about yourself than when you went in.

To the fat people...
Problem is.......No one called ANYONE....."FAT".
This is what is known as......A FACT!

When we deal with the FACTS then we can closer to the.....TRUTH.

So, anyone want to deal with the FACTS?

First it was "bullying" now it's "hate speech", give me a break.

Forty-two states have anti-bullying laws, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures, but most deal with prevention and the duty of school administrators to step in, not directly with the bullies themselves.

"Essentially, we're talking about people being mean to each other, and that's tough, though not impossible, to criminalize," Holder says. Holder notes that if it occurred between two adults, there would be nothing criminal about it.

www.chicagoparent.com...

Ok, not bullying.

In the United States, hate speech is protected as a civil right (aside from usual exceptions to free speech, such as defamation, incitement to riot, and fighting words).[54] Laws prohibiting hate speech are unconstitutional in the United States; the United States federal government and state governments are forbidden by the First Amendment of the Constitution from restricting speech.[55][56][57][58]

Even though it is protected, hate speech still refers to something publicly disseminated. Which the letter/email wasn't. It was Jennifer and her husband that chose to do that. So they are the ones responsible for it making into the public eye.

Oh wow, look at this?

Anti-Smoking Advocate Says Smokers are a Bad Role Model for their Children
Russell Sciandra, a leading lobbyist with the New York State chapter of the American Cancer Society, is quoted in the Boston Herald Wednesday as calling smokers poor role models for their children.

Jeez, just had a cigarette and I'm feeling bullied by the anti-smoking lobbyist... Or was that hate speech?

tobaccoanalysis.blogspot.ca...

What kind of society do you expect to evolve if there can't be "unsolicited" comments made to others? In the Middle East I know unsolicited religious opinion can get you killed, and I know that even though the bums waiting at the intersection everyday asking for donations gets a little annoying, but I simply tell them to bugger off or just role up my _ I wouldn't want to see action against them, or have tiered society where only certain people get to say certain things.

She's a media personality, which has been stated a million times in this thread. She needs to have thicker skin than what she claims, and she should not be using her position to answer personal spats she has with her viewership. If anything, it should have been ignored. She's left a giant target on her children's backs now for actual bullying where the chance of "your mom is fat" is going to be a meme at their school...

And by definition, she was the one bullying anyway, as she used her medium to lambaste a guy to a national audience:

Bullying is the use of force or coercion to abuse or intimidate others.

Let's put aside the email and look at parts of this thread:

I don't see her meaning, she is a lardo, she should do some push backs ( you know where you push yourself back from the table instead of gouring your fat face)

The post containing this snippet currently has over 70 stars. Later this poster wrote this:

I think I am not judging anyone

No, that wasn't judgmental at all

She is also in the public eye by choice so if somebody points out she is a chunky monkey then she should keep her fat yap shut

Over 30 stars.

she is fat and disgusting

13 stars

Here's some more:

If you are fat, you are damn fat and should do something about it OR shut the hell up

If she is so hurt, why doesn't this tub-of-lard jump onto a treadmill.

The Political Correctness on this thread is thick it smells just like a fat person!

the viewer has every right to advocate attractive, female, presenters

Everyone that is defending her is most likely just as or more obese than her and are butt hurt

People from the fringes of society, like overweights, gays, minorities, etc., should stop being defensive

If you are any of these terrible things: fat, gay, not white you are on the fringe of society and have no right to be upset about it. Had to laugh at the idiocy of this one. Well I have news for you poster, If this society wants to continue to persecute people for weight, sexual orientation and race this society can go to ---- as far as I'm concerned.

Because when fatso looks at herself in the mirror,

all because some fat chick got her feelings hurt

I agree that fatties should not be allowed on the TV

I bet her poor kids are fatsoes

She did well to stand up for herself as most fatties would of crumbled into dust

And finally this quote right here:

I have a hard time thinking people walk up and crack jokes about your weight

Yes because as this thread clearly presents, no one would ever crack jokes about a person's weight. I will give you this though, It's obviously much easier to do it from the shielding and anonymity of your keyboard.

Seems we don't have to worry about whether the email is bullying or out of concern, there are plenty of bullies right here on ATS. A forum could be considered somewhat a microcosm of humanity. At first I was offended by these thoughtless, hateful remarks but then I had to laugh at the irony of some people agreeing that the email is not bullying while at the same time these people choose to not only stereotype and ostracize a broad section of humanity - they have the gall to do it out of "concern."

And to top it off most that said they were purely concerned and were not attacking "fat" people, only attacking the epidemic became strangely silent in the face of these hateful remarks above.

I sincerely hope that the above posters don't fall from their high horses, what a bitter medicine that would be.

But what do I know, I'm overweight I should shut up along with all of the gays and the minorities and let all of those without fault cast their stones because after all, it is being done for my own good.

People are making fun of her for being fat, not because of her weight, but because she decided to go on the news and make a 4 minute tirade complaining about being bullied, (which clearly wasn't the case.)

So yes, it's not because she's fat. It's because she's an idiot.

There are plenty of fat people that would not garner those types of comments from the very same posters. This isn't grade 2 okay, things don't "just happen and no one knows why, gee whiz"

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me.

Actually, it's called an opinion. And the same type of crap gets said daily on this about public officials, medical officials, anyone involved in vaccine industry, anyone involved in the Monsanto company... ***Oh and NASA, hell Buzz Aldrin never went to the moon, he was lier and probably a shape shifting alien that couldn't even leave the planet cause he would explode...

But it's usually worse for them, they are getting called murderers or people are accusing them of being devil worshipping freemasons who kidnap children to have sex with them while trying to form a global Israel.

But let me guess, you took it personally so now all of a sudden it's a cause you want to crusade for. Don't act like you are running off any higher morals/principals than anyone else...

It seems that no one is going to answer my question.
Nevermind the FACT that NO ONE said ANYTHING about ANYONE being fat.
Let's just skip right over that, even though it is the TITLE OF THE THREAD!!!!!!

It seems we are now living in an age where we are not supposed to recognise the fact that there are FAT people.
Nor are we supposed to even hint at the FACT that they are a tremendous burdon on our healthcare system.
Nor are we supposed to show any concern about the FACT that they are putting their health in jeopardy.
Nor are we supposed to mention the FACT that the human body was apparently and obviously not designed to handle carrying that much weight.

So, let them eat cake.

I won't say a word to a fat person about being fat that's for sure.

No friend, I am not running off any higher morals than anyone else. I am a deeply flawed individual as we all are. I am no better than anyone but I am also no worse.

It is not the same thing as what is said about officials. It is persecution about a medical condition. I am not trying to minimize the struggle of homosexuals or minorities but it is eerily similar to derogatory statements against them.

Because that's what those words are, derogatory.

For the record I also smoke as well and can sympathize.

I am not trying to fight with you or anyone else, I am fighting against prejudice. Which is what those words are. People are confusing a disease with people. Regardless of why a person is obese, it is a disease. People are not a disease.

I am not offended that some people will look at me and not like what they see. I am offended that hateful, derogatory words are acceptable as long as they are directed towards those who are overweight or obese.

I hold no hard feelings against you and I don't even hold hard feelings against those that posted the hateful remarks that I presented. In another thread I would converse with them as I would converse with anyone on the forum.

In any case, this thread could go on for years and not be resolved. I have to stand by what I believe so that I can live with myself, just as I'm sure you have to stand by what you feel is right.

Have a lovely night/day.

You bring up a good point.

For me it is the word FAT that I take issue with. Fat is adipose tissue, not a person. I am overweight not fat. To me there is a distinction.

I have been told that I am overweight by doctors, as well as by some of my family members and it did not offend me because they are close to me and have a valid reason to be concerned.

I believe if you mention to a person that you are personally close too that they are overweight because you are concerned, that is not a bad thing.

I believe calling someone fat however is wrong. A person is not fat, they have fat.

The only issue I took with the email was that this man was not a family member, doctor or close friend of the woman. I don't care that she is on TV. He does not know her. That's solely my opinion of course.

I know that being overweight is dangerous for me, which is why I went from 350 pounds to 220 pounds. I am 5'9". I'm quite happy with my progress. It started with medication for me, which increased my appetite and made me lethargic. The more I gained the harder it was to lose. I am at a plateau now but I am okay with that currently and am only trying to maintain for now which is very hard.

Most overweight people will know deep down that they have a problem and as long as it is someone close to them coming from a place of caring, I would say that most will not take offense.

But when someone that does not really know you tells you that you are "fat" it does feel redundant and it does feel hurtful.

ETA: The email was actually presented well and if it had been coming from someone close to her I would consider it to be acceptable, personally.

Have a good night/day.

Your opinion is that people shouldn't have opinions, so using your logic you should not bother voicing it to me any further.

You were obese, now you have progressed to a healthier state and are overweight. Nothing wrong with that, something to be proud of, and a clear example that it doesn't take magical unicorns to change.
