Perhaps she just did not notice it, or process it in her head, because she was more interested in the intended subjects of the photo, cute lil billy goats, not trash....she probably didn't look @ these photos till much later after taking it, seeing something "odd" and assuming see didn't "see" it when she took pic, none of that really matters.......all that matters is the pic, which in this case is just a pic of a plastic bag....

invert

*note* JPG artifacts are magnified due to recompression from image

There is no way this is a plastic bag, it has to be a solid object. There is a lot of light in this photo.

The fact that actual photos of seagulls have been posted on this thread, is clear evidence of how truly stupid this discussion is, show me a bloated BLUE seagull then we can talk....Its a Bag, granted a very evil plastic bag, responsible for the destruction and pollution of planet earth, if we stopped using OIL to make these stupid bags, we could have gas for less than $1/gal.....

there are aspects of this discussion that are stupid - mainly people not reading other's posts properly

overall though i'm finding it interesting

It EVEN easier to see that its a bag when the colors are inverted, bag handle clearly visible, looks almost identical to my bag pic....

removed

except for one obvious thing

the bag must be about the size of truck

I am trying to work out the dimensions of it from the perspective and the mirror and the rock

yeah yeah most will say not possible.

but this aint going away so I am going to take my time

It has to be at least 30 feet diameter

don't worry I will prove it

Explanation: I am now 99.999% certain it is a mylar party balloon.

Here is why ...

1stly the best picture so far came from pg2 by RoScoLaz ...

The above gif shows it is highly reflective.

elevenaugust's (11aug) analysis on pg33 concurs with that ...

SkepticOverlord (SO) posted on pg4 and pg29 and pg34 with a lot of evidence pointing towards it being a mylar party balloon.

SO, 11aug and phage also all confirm the exif data is credible.

SO on pg4

11aug on pg12

phage on pg1

I then followed up on all of that starting with 11aug information on sizing stuff found on pg10 ...

And after some rough guestimates [assuming some fisheye type distortions] as to size and range I went ahead and found the reflection [by flipping horizonatlly] on the assumed mylar ballon to be, ahem, reflected
in the same landscape on Google Earth App and I detail that on pg38 ...

SO was correct its a festival show mylar balloon about 50cm to 1m in diameter and about 30m to 50m away flying some 30m to 40m above sea level on the wind at a mighty speed of 8m/s [which easily carries it out of sight in seconds].

Personal Disclosure: I hope this helps!

You would have to know the distance to make such a claim.. Which you do not. I stick to the plastic bag I mentioned a few pages back.

okay, find this exact spot on google earth, use ruler function to measure distance to land mass in the distance, this should provide scale

I can't even upload a picture.....

scale can be determined by actual size of side mirror on car to the rocky outcrop and the size of the goat

if it's a bag i would guess it would be blowing right to left (the handle being on the right and the 'cavity' being on the left), if the bag was 'inflated' with the wind, which it looks like

but from the hair on the goats i'm guessing the wind is blowing left to right - i'm now favouring mylar baloon

Maybe pull up a weather chart to determine exact wind direction

We know the sun position and the time of the shot

Barometric pressure?

good eye,

im assuming there would be a upward surge of air by the cliff coming off the ocean, jetting the bag upwards... goats/and fiat are in motion as well, take that into account

i think its being blown upwards more than anything, also i dont think the bad is inflated but we are just seeing it an odd angle, viewing wide section of bag

what makes you think this? - the depth of field extends to about 1 m from the camera - the object looks to me out of focus but not very - looking at the sea it looks to me like anything 1 km away would be totally out of focus

even the nearest ones look much more out of focus than the object to me

how in focus does the object look to you?

Explanation: Some more data and a very poor attempeted recreation using mspaint and what pics were available and screengrabs from Google Earth app ...

The view from directly above the area ...

The view from side on the area ...

The view looking from guestimated poistion of car ...

A minor Edit to include the big rock for comparison ...

A major Edited to recreate [poorly] the original pics look ...

And the original to compare that with ...

Personal Disclosure: I hope that helps people get a real good perspective on things.
