NEWS: Terrorism Wins in Jordan

According to the following report from ABC and the Accociated Press Jordan has canceled plans to broadcast a soap opera about life in Afghanistan after threats against everyone from actors to television executives if they dare to portray the Taliban in a negative light. The show "The Road to Kabul" would have portrayed life in Afghanistan under the rule of the Taliban..




The article also states that last Thursday, Jordanian television said the broadcast might be postponed for a few days because of technical problems. But on Saturday they canceled plans to show it.

It would seem that any muslim nation must obey the rules of radical muslims or else!

It would also seem the Taliban is alive and well, at least in spirit and through fear commanding respect once again.

A victory though small for terrorism?

Well, you have to think of the well being of the people. Is it worth the life of someone to broadcast a television show? I don't think so. It's definately not worth the money or the ratings. I can see why they decided not to broadcast it.

The problem is, and forgive me for the cliche, "you give them an inch and they'll take a mile." Also, I believe that independence and sovereignty are well worth an occasional black-eye. In that region, this would have served as far more than just a television show, so I'd say... yeah it's probably worth someone's life. I don't mean to sound insensitive to their situation, but the Taliban (and other extremist Muslims) probably view this as Jordanian weakness. Not a good sign.

That is pathetic.

What the ought to do is offer free cable to anyone in Afghanistan who wants it. Then everyone can watch the show. They kill the cast, fine. More cable. New show. The terrorists behead that cast. Fine. More cable for Afghans. Sooner or later Afghanistan becomes a nation of television zombies like America and they'll be more interested in that than in terrorism.

In fact, the whole fighting terrorism and rabid radical Islam with guns is a waste. The answer is more TV. It has worked wonders for making Americans passive sheep. So either destroy them with crappy pop culture, or, just go in and start beheading like 1000 people for every one they behead. The television thing is practically beheading seeing as it detaches brain function from the body, but it isn't as messy. Also, free wireless internet would help too. Internet forums and porn are enough to sap the resistence out of any culture.

So you guys are fine with people getting killed, just so a show can go on air.....sigh.

As I said, in that region at this point in time... it's FAR more than just a TV show. C'mon, think about it.
