He'd have to prove his sanity to show that there was no danger of him getting over his head and turning to larger and larger sacrifices. Suppose he decided to blow up...say...a movie theater? One mass ritual.

But if he can prove his sanity, then there's no risk....right? Right? ....

....

...does that mean I'm wrong?

edit on 1-10-2012 by AfterInfinity because: (no reason given)

Why should the modern sacrifier of animals have to "prove their sanity" in order to exercise their Constitutional Rights? Nobody made the christians prove they were "sane" before they blew up Iraq and Afghanistan....and your worried about movie theaters???

I'm not pro-life, nor pro choice... i'm in the gray area.. when brain activity takes effect due to spinal cord attachment, that's when i go "pro-life"...

Parasite is a vague term... humans are parasite to the earth, can i get my shot gun ready and kill few of them?

As a Microbiologist, i would not call fetus a parasite, it is not a invading organism, its formed within the body, if its a parasite the body will kill it by itself.

This what it comes down to... there are irresponsible adults who abuse the abortion, then we have to back up their laziness and calling it parasite so it wont be wrong.... Its a gray zone for me, at about when the brain activity starts.

The Christians have been talking up their persecution for decades now, while they shove their nonsense down our throats.

I'm sick of trying to talk to people who merely need to know some "candidate" or person X is a "good Christian" and they give them a pass on every corrupt thing they do. I'm sick of people who can think thousands of scientists would rig climate data, but not think that hundreds of Oil companies making billions could be manipulating our media.

It's all because someone GOT TO YOU as a kid, and told you Santa, the Easter Bunny and war mongering Baby Jesus were all real, and then when two out of the three turn out to be bogus, you still are required to believe the third. Isn't that a sign that a kid without critical thinking skills can be told ANYTHING? Why don't Muslims become Christians or Christians become Muslims if God had the least bit of influence or interest in our religion? Kids indoctrinated in whatever belief; surprise, surprise, end up with that belief.

>> So if this country PUSHES BACK on the "creationism" in schools and the attack on history and non-critical thinking nitwits -- well that's a good thing. Atheists and Unitarians don't get into cults, nor do they get herded into fascism. The easiest countries to turn into Hell On Earth are all religious, and the people who report the most "satisfaction in life?" Godless Socialists like the Swedes.

POTENTIAL human life is the weakest argument against abortion. The skin on my tongue could POTENTIALLY become a human in a few years with cloning techniques. So am I murdering millions when I scrub my body?

If God didn't want abortion -- why do half the first time pregnancies end up being miscarriages?

The only valid way to decide this is with ethics based upon what we find as VALUABLE human life. I think it's fine to STOP abortions in the third trimester unless one of the two parties is going to die.

>> But anyone who actually CARES and thinks about it, would be for free birth control for anyone who wants it, and more support for single mothers. Make abortions less necessary and frequent -- not illegal.

The point is moot however, because abortion laws really just effect people without money. Which is what MOST of these moral laws effect. Besides, the coming generation is going to be the most godless yet, because they've got to witness how bad things get when Presidential candidates all compete to see who is the most backwards and anti science. Nothing promotes atheism better than a good luck at what happens when you give bible thumpers too much power.

Im not sure why a reply to me has a "god" in it and potential life...

But are you seriously comparing a somatic cell to a fertilized cell?

It does not matter if the person is rich or poor, they know reproduction will lead to pregnancy, they have control. Its like saying, "i didn't know stabbing a person in the heart would kill him, can we hide the evidence? The person is in coma, so he is not "living" so it would be A -OK!"

Like i said, i don't care whether pro-life or pro-choice, i just hate the excuse people use, such as parasite, a cheek cells etc etc. Be proud of your abortion!.

The age of information is killing organized religion. "Faith" is harder to come by when everyone has questions and the answers at their fingertips.

I was indoctrinated into a religion when I was a kid, I was told that there was a bubble of water surrounding the earth when it was "paradise" and when god got mad he popped it causing the flood. I was also told that one day we would be escaping civilization and running to the mountains to hide because we didn't worship on the correct day and we would be persecuted for it.

This is obviously an extreme example of one group's opinion, but the bible becomes harder and harder to believe when you can use google and find out that most of the stories/archetypes in the bible come from pagan religions/sumerians and have been recycled and reproduced for the masses.

There isn't a conspiracy to stop Christianity, if anything it's the other way around. There are so many interests in government pushing the Christian values in the right wing, and probably to counteract the recent decline in interest in organized religion

The Family
www.youtube.com...

To blame the decline in faith on the "have nots" and "takers" is silly in my opinion. True, a good portion of them could be disillusioned with life and the fact that the religious right doesn't want to feed the hungry and help the poor.. and I don't really blame them.. but that's not necessarily the case. Hispanic minorities for instance are very religious, as well as a lot of the poor southern minorities.

Lets see.....did I post anything that was not true?....mmmm...No.

Did you use a reference that included statements that the United States was a Baby Killing, Murderous State?.....aaaa...lets see now...YES!....yes you did.

Did you purposely equate a self generated opinion without any basis of overall percentages as well as Numbers and Ratios as well as a comparison to other Countries when you decided to chose the United States as your BOGEY MAN?....NO!...No you did not.

Would it appear that you are a person who is Highly Religious in some sect of the Christian Faith that has lost your compass as to what Jesus actually taught as well as practiced and did so by example? WITHOUT A DOUBT!

Have you expressed any emotion other than HATE within your post as well as have a total lack of understanding of what others must go through to protect your ability to live in Freedom and have basic Human Rights? Nope...you are just PISSED OFF THAT SOMEONE HAS EXPRESSED THEIR RIGHT OF ENFORCEMENT OF THE SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE!

YOU have become EVERYTHING that Jesus taught his followers NOT TO BE! Split Infinity

"The atheists and the secularists are well-organized and they're well-funded," the Liberty Institute attorney (Jeff Mateer) told CBN News. "The rate of hostility to people of faith is overwhelming," he said. "It's increasing. Every day, we're getting calls."

What Mr. Mateer says here is absolutely true. You have to look no further than here on ATS where religion (specifically, Christianity) is at the very least looked down upon as "ignorant" and at worst, directly insulted and lambasted along with anyone subscribing to such beliefs.

The overt (or militant) Atheists and Secularists out there which Mateer is referring to are helping to destroy America. That is their agenda. To DEMONIZE and destroy traditional faith based values.

It should raise more than a few eyebrows that the general sentiment here on ATS is in step with this.

You can't be a "patriot" and be for something like this. Lots of hypocrites and TRAITORS on this website it seems to me.

Anyway, I for one am glad that this girls FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS were eventually upheld. It's sad that they were even questioned in the first place.

"Anti-Faith Sentiment Sweeps US"

Good. It's about time people stopped believing in bed time stories. For as much as religion preaches peace, it has done nothing but cause war.

We don't worship a book, we worship the One it is about. You have alot of anger and animosity towards those of faith. Let your hatred go, and you can begin to find the path to enlightenment and freedom. Men cause wars, not religion. Take away religion and then what would you have? Nothing but the same old stuff, but on a worse scale. Case in point, murdering unborn babies. When there are no more religions, what then will you blame war, murder, robbery, greed, avarice and a host of many other evil things on? On that day mankind will have no more scapegoats and you will face the very ugly truth that mankind is evil all on it's own. We're already beginning to see that occur.

BTW cool vampire. They make for a nice fairytale.

You did not address the point I made and, I do not worship my vampire avatar. There is a difference between entertainment and cult activity. I have no anger towards people of faith, I simply find it primitive and, to be honest, stupid to worship a book written 2000 years ago especially when the individual that it's centered around was against organized religion. Humanity is evil on it's own, just as humanity can be good on it's own, but that does not excuse the actions taken in the name of God that continue to this day. Nor does it excuse the fact that religion as a whole has been used to enslave this species by it's own for thousands of years.

Enjoy your book. I'd rather keep my freedom and sanity.

The thing is, what people see as a "bag of answers" in the internet, is really the same thing as what you're saying the Bible is/was.

The bible is a canon, defined as a "collection of books"... what is the internet, but just another collection of information??

There is no difference. They are the same in that respect.

So to look at one to disprove the other makes zero sense, people choose to believe one over the other - and that is the difference.

You said "the age of information is killing religion". I am actually all for the destruction of religion. The structured/instituted religion... the business of it...

The right to personal FAITH and BELIEF need to be protected at all costs however.

It's ironic. We would actually be far LESS free if we were stripped of the right to personal faith and belief. There'd be nothing to fall back on.
Yet I see people here practically begging for that every day.

A few cases hardly equals sweeping the US. I support her in wanting to thank Jesus, it's not like it was a teacher preaching to all the kids or anything. I couldn't care less who she thanks. If she wants to thank Jesus, Satan, God or the Flying Spaghetti Monster then have at it. Say thanks and move on. I only take issue with religion when it goes beyond people just thanking god or having their own personal beliefs. I don't care what you believe, I just don't want to hear about it and I don't want people preaching to me or my kids. I believe in God or some sort of higher power, but beyond that I don't know.

I think that more and more people question religion in general and want to be left alone to decide what they believe without being bombarded by Christians, Muslims, or whatever religion have you. We all have the right to believe whatever we want, but that doesn't mean that everyone else owes you a podium to shout from.

Slavery is not always used with whips and chains, the rules within the Christian religion are what enslaves minds. I'm curious though, since I have yet another person that refuses to speak on points that I've made, how does one destroy a nation not founded in faith by "demonizing" faith? Does anyone even understand the concept of separating church from state anymore? If you want to live in a country controlled by it's religion, try Iran. Deny ignorance? That's what I'm trying to do here, but it seems all the religious people that are so "stable" and "loving" just can't take criticism of their "precious".

And you are absolutely right! So, there's one freedom taken away from Freedom of Religious expression. The qu'ran says to kill infidels, so that freedom (in the U.S.) is also taken away. How about animal sacrifice; should this be taken away? I think it should. And, I don't think anyone, any religion, or any parent should have the right to cut anything off a child (circumcision). If the person wants to do this when he's of legal age, hey go for it, but not until then.

Other religions refuse medical assistance and would suffer a child to die. This right should also be taken away, IMO.

Point is, there's really no such thing as Freedom of Religion. Or of religious expression. What we have is a right to decide when a child, or anyone, can express their religious beliefs in a public setting. We should also have a right to NOT allow the practice of certain religions in our country.

You are not denying ignorance you are promoting it.

FTR I am fully against any organized/institutional/for profit "religions"

What I believe the 1st Amendment refers to is the right to personal faith and belief.

It's obvious to anyone looking, that the attack on "religion" happening today is not an attack on religion (meaning the "institution" or "corporation" of what is today seen as religion) but rather on the simple individuals who are engaging in their 1st amendment right to practice their faith and belief.

With regards to destroying a nation by attacking faith, I suggest you look into the correlation between atheism and communism.

Again, let me be clear, as you've used a term in your post I see as contradicting. "Christian Religion" You see that as one term. I see it as two.

Christianity and Religion are two different things.

In any case, any attempt to negate one's personal right to worship/faith/belief should be met with the most strident resistance. That's what this thread is about. A girl was simply trying to exercise her 1st Amendment Right and was nearly threatened with prison as a result. THAT SHOULD FRIGHTEN YOU.

And it does frighten me. You are absolutely correct in saying that people have a right in this country to practice whichever religion or belief they choose. In response to that, I fully agree. I could care less what other people do. If you want to go worship the easter bunny, more power to you. The only point I'm making is that at some point this species needs to put down the bed time stories and take accountability for it's own actions... that, however, cannot be forced. But just as you say that I am attacking a certain belief, you turn around and attack those who choose not to believe in the same sentence. This is a 2 way street here.

Fair enough in my book. The only people that drive me nuts are the "free speech ...just as long as I agree with you" crowd. You know the type. They scream bloody murder when a bunch of Muslims want to put a mosque next to ground zero...but then try to invoke freedom of expression and the freedom of religion when they want to dumb down the populace and push Unintelligent Design in the classroom. I have not YET met or even HEARD OF one of these hard-core christian nutters who feels that the Scientology version of "intelligent design" involving space aliens called "Thetans" ought to ALSO be taught in classrooms right along w/ Darwinian Evolution and the whole talking-snake story.

Actually...here's a novel idea. Instead of all the adults deciding what should or should not be discussed...why don't we just let the kids themselves vote??

I'm not attacking "those that choose not to believe" I'm attacking those that make it their priority to attack the freedoms guaranteed to the people in the bill of rights.

We agree people should have the right to believe in whatever they want, and THEY DO HAVE THAT RIGHT

There is an element out there however that is bent on destroying that right, and the incident that started this thread is direct evidence of that in action.
