Im sooo freakin pissed off after reading maybe the first ten replies here. i cant read further into the thread, and i cant make a long reply....or i will have steam coming out my ears.

I have a "great job" now (except when i want to do anything besides work), make "a lot of money". Ive been woroing ever since i was 19...sure i shouldve started earlier but i didnt. But....i was homeless at one point. Neither one of my parents gave a damn about me, i couchsurfed when i could and slept in my car when i couldnt. You know what benefits i got? Food stamps..and not a single other thing. No compassion whatsoever, because im smart enough to not have popped a few kids out. Ive seen people like op mentioned many times. But ive worked my ass off for years, paid quite a lot in taxes to support these people...and that safety net will never be there for me, except food stamps. Well they can shove their food stamps up their .......i will never accept them again. If i ever become homeless again i will abandon all my worldly positions and live off the land in a freakin forest forever.

Oh, and i had money when i was homeless. Theres always some legitimate work to be done. Odd jobs, temp agencies. Not enough money to get a home, but anything helps, even if it just got me gas to look for jobs.

One poster hit the nail on the head. One day they are going to have a rude awakening. What happens when all their children are grown and they have never worked a day in their life?

Yes, this is a very good point. At some stage she is going to have to give up on having more kids and will have no choice but to go and look for work.
And the first thing that's going to be looked at is the big empty space where her previous employments should be listed in her CV.

Some people never seem to look ahead and think about what they are going to do in years to come when the child support dries up and the easy money they are so used to is not available anymore.

If it was me doing the interview, there is no way anyone like this would be given a job as they obviously don't want to work and I wouldn't expect that attitude to ever change.

I agree, nobody likes a lazy freeloader but we have our Government to thank for it. What I believe we need is a fundamental paradigm change on how we look at work. I don't blame the average person for being disenfranchised with the current slave based work system. Most jobs these days are part time and don't offer benefits or a livable wage, the job is usually one that makes a person depressed after a short time. If the Government really cared they would take the people on welfare and food stamps and let them choose between hundreds of different types of jobs that they could be trained in a specific skill that interested them. I think the attitude of working would change overnight if people were allowed to follow their interests, production in a perspective country would skyrocket.

The problem is the Government and corporate interests, the corporations have gutted the U.S work force to cheap labor markets and the lapdog Government finances welfare with taxpayer dollars leaving the corporate interests to rake in the profits. At the end of the day this is about the people reclaiming their country, and having Government serve the people instead of corporations. Free handouts help nobody!

Well if you are only able to get a 'part time' job why not get two? You will have the time

My ex.husband and myself often did that when we needed extra cash!

However it is the 'system' that needs to be changed and revised....I am now retired and

whilst i was employed payed into an employee scheme towards an extra 'private' pension.

And it IS a 'small' pension. As my government pension plus my 'private' pension add up to

what the government deems that a pensioner needs to live on.

So i have an aquaintiance who only had her government pension NOW she has been given an

additional amount to bring her pension up to mine ( remember i paid into mine it wasn't given

to me)

I can't argue with that but what realy gets to me is that because she receives a 'benifit' her rent

and council tax ALSO gets paid for her. making her better off than me!....And i am having to

pay the full amount of my council tax, The same amount i was paying whilst employed and

earning double than what my pension is. Her Dental work is also free as she is on what is

called 'benefits and i am required to pay all of mine!

HOW CAN THAT BE FAIR??

It's funny I always hear about all these kinds of people taking advantage of the government help and people whining about it.

It's funny because I am a single male. I can't get a job and I live with my mother. The only thing I can get is some food stamps and I can't qualify for any other kind of help because I am a single male.

I hate the fact that it is so geared up for people with children. I don't understand why it's so important to help them and not me or other people like me who ALSO NEED THIS FREAKING ASSISTANCE!

But as for me, what I would do with the help is save up a few thousand dollars and go to a school and get a job and eventually get off of the help. And I also would want to repay the help back.

But I would probably get in to a lot of trouble for that.

I'm the kind of person that wants to accomplish something with my life and be remembered for something that helped the society, as much as I hate it.

Yeah, the welfare needs a complete overhaul It should not discriminate against some kinds of people who need the help.

And I'm tired of people berating me for needing this help.

So you think that because you had to get several part time jobs to make ends meet, everyone else should have to do the same? That mentality is what allows the Government to keep exporting our good jobs overseas leaving jobs like Taco Bell cashier in the U.S., it's a failed plan. As long as people continue to blame the poor, the corporate controlled Government will continue the Totalitarian tiptoe.

The real problem highlighted on this thread is not the lack of jobs, it's the lack of motivation.

The government provides a comfy chair in front of the TV for anyone who doesn't want to work. Sure, it means living in a dangerous neighborhood and taking your children to a disgusting free clinic because they are chronically ill, but it takes a lot less work, and there's no drug testing.

I post a lot on the preparedness/survival boards. I don't say it there but I will confess that I sort of look forward to a situation where people no longer had their connection to the government teat. Of course, it would be rocky for several weeks, because they would [redacted]. You'll have to lie low until they run out of prepaid obamaphone minutes, run out of bullets, run out of gas and run out of food.

Alot of lazy slappers here in the UK make it their goal to squeeze out many useless eaters just so they can sit back on their fat arse all day.
It's really a sad pathetic, pointless existence.

What is equally scary beyond the thought of someone simply having kids, is that they will pass that mentality on to the next generation. And when her kids grow up they be cut from the same cloth, with the same backwards mentality. Like a snowball effect down a mountain... Eventually she will have created a lineage of useless people feeding off the state.

And people wonder why the top has no respect for the bottom...

This fries my arse.

I have worked since I was 12 years old. I grew up in appalachia and was very poor. I had to work pumping gas at a local gas station (and I am a girl!) for dirty creepy old men for 20 hours a week and got paid $40 a week. That was ALOT of money. My money went to buy my clothes, shoes, school supplies, etc. because my family couldnt afford to buy that stuff for me. I was in band so all of my expenses in band I had to pay for. I have worked ever since.

My husband retired from the Army in 2010, is 80% VA disabled and I have a good job at a major insurance company. We have ONE child. We chose to have only one child because we felt if the world went to crap we could afford to provide for her somehow if we had to.

All that being said, we still live pay check to paycheck and we dont have a lot of luxuries. We have a mortgage, utilities, a beat up truck and a mini van. Our kid has a mustang but we didnt buy it...her grandfather left it to her when he died in April.

My point is, I think it stinks that I work 60+ hrs a week and we barely get by when there are some people at Walmart buying carts of groceries on the governments dime. I have to bargain shop to afford everything we need. They have carts of soda, candy, chips, etc. Those things are luxuries for us.

I also have student loans, which is where alot of my paycheck goes. College degree landed me great job...but I will be paying off that education for the next 10 years. It is really frustrating.

Life isn't fair my mom always said, but, we need to demand an overhaul of our system. NOW.

What really reeks is not just the inherent laziness of humans. The worse part is how the government bureaucrats actively seek out people to "get on the dole." In some US jurisdiction, the do-less can win prizes (even cash!) for finding other "needy people" who "aren't being served yet."

Basically, the government welfare agencies grow and get more power by adding more people on the roles. If you ever deal with the workers, they are exactly what you'd imagine: full of "empowering" rhetoric, and eager to 'defend' people who ought to be on disability., etc.

I really wouldn't mind my hard-earned money being taken to get people a new start in life. But instead, I am just paying for their meth.

One of these days, it's going to REALLY rain, and wash all the scum off the streets...

Let me tell you about dignity, I work with people here in Vegas that owe up to three times as much on a home than people are paying for the same home across the street. Dignity has kept them paying a mortgage three times as expensive, while the banks repeatedly get bailed out. You can stuff your dignity in a sack if you ask me, we have been screwed and continue to be screwed, yet the best we can do is point fingers at poor people. Don't get me wrong I scratch my head when walking through Walmart and wonder what the hell I got myself into, but they are just the byproduct of a broken system. If you treat people like "useless eaters" you are going to get more of the same, if you use the money of welfare to reintegrate the least among us by giving specific training in a multitude of career paths then you would have a different system.

Anybody being intellectually honest will admit that there is no real effort to get this country working from the bottom up, but if you ask me it is just one of the symptoms of a terminally diagnosed economy.

I came from a small country town in Australia of about several thousand people, and most girls there have children of at least two different men. Basically breeding machines and most dont work and just live on welfare. They all smoke drugs and drink alcohol. I got out of that town and got educated and got a job and payed my house off. If i had stayed id be unemployed, smoking and drinking and have five kids from three different woman. The later is not an option its a just crap.

You get to a point where you become frustrated......you see people try to make it and work tirelessly with no help and others who never aspire to have anything live more comfortably.

I remember scraping change togther and feeding my kids rice and beans the first week we bought our home and all our savings was spent on our down payment....we still struggle and with the cost of food increasing....we grown our own vegetables to save.

I go to the store and I see people buy shrimp on food stamps.

And THAT is what real people do.....if we don't have, we save, if we have to cut, we cut.....we make do with what we have. I don't have a credit card, if I don't have enough money, I don't need it.

This is what the previous generations did....I just don't understand how someone can think this is right, it was never like this before.......Even in the socialist states, the peons were made to show up at work to earn their subsidies.....I just don't get were this money for nothing came from, can anyone tell me exactly how this started?

One previous poster said it isn't their fault, it is the government for allowing it......CORRECT....absolutely correct, which means it is OUR fault, because we allow our government to make the rules....and it isn't just one government, as many posters are from different countries. This is becoming a norm that WE have to change or we will become IDIOCRACY.

The same poster said it isn't their fault, it is the government for allowing it......INCORRECT.....lazy people are lazy because they choose to be....I would absolutely hate myself for sitting home all day drinking beer, watching tv and getting fat.....that truly disgusts me, I enjoy doing things, bettering myself, helping others. living off the government tit and choosing to not do anything because the option is there is the individual's fault, just like choosing a greasy cheeseburger over a salad if you are 400lbs....You can choose to make something of your life.
