I will ask that you read the thread because I have already covered what you are implying.

It is amazing to me that Rap and rock music video games and movies will be blamed for a myriad of social issues but people cannot draw the connection between irresponsible reporting (doom porn) and the effects it can have on society as a whole especially and in this case a mentally unstable person.

edit on 1-10-2012 by Grimpachi because: fix

I don't blame Rock or Rap for social issues. And the fact is that this man clearly had a number of psychological problems before he killed his family. It is over simplistic and just plain wrong to blame any news outlet for this man's insanity. Both left and right wing media outlets deal out tons of "doom porn". I read your entire post, TWICE, and my point still stands. You are trying to spin this incident in favor of your own political beliefs. Like I said, I watch Fox from time to time, and I'd also like to add that I watch CNN and even Steve Colbert and John Stewart occasionally. They all deal in so-called doom porn equally. But at the same time, there is nothing that any of them say that would make a sane person kill his family. Only an insane person would do such a thing, and Fox news was only the trigger, not the cause of his insanity.

Well I am very glad you do not blame music, movies, or video games for these things and neither do me but you and I completely disagree that they have no influence at all. If that were true advertising would serve no purpose. Be truthful. Furthermore there are many people that would disagree with you that they hold no sway. I do have political views but if you would please point out in this thread where I am spinning this to my political beliefs I would appreciate that. I take it that you feel that I am unfairly attacking right wing media and I disagree.

My opinion is the right wing media outlets are the biggest offenders of promoting doom and I challenge you to prove me wrong. You say you read the entire thread twice so I assume you also watched the video where Hannity states it will be The End of America As We Know It if Obama is reelected. So you do not find that as hyperbolic? If you find that position as truthful then I have proven my point. So please back your statements up.

My assertion is that you see this as an attack solely on the right and it is not. This is an attack on all media but in this case directed towards the right because the man committed such a heinous act for fear that Obama would be reelected and I find it absurd if not downright ludicrous that he did not form those opinions from what has been asserted by the media.

I actually said that Fox might have been the trigger, but you seem to think that they were the primary reason. Yeah, I watched the Hannity video, and what he said his opinion. The fact is that anything could have set this guy off, not just Fox. The guy was clearly insane, you can't blame Hannity because he spoke his admittedly extreme opinion. I am happy to see that you are not just out to bash Fox or the right wing media, and that the media as a whole is to blame for fear-mongering, not just Fox and their ilk. I would even go so far to say that right now Fox IS more into the doom and gloom than most liberal news agencies. Thats because we have a liberal democrat for a president. However the second a Republican gets elected president, you can bet your a** that CNN, MSNBC, ABC, etc. will be showing "doom porn" 24/7, you mark my words. You believe that Fox is the worst offender, fair enough.

It's humorous that personal blame and responsibility is considered as a secondary thing to outside influences. Especially with something this extreme/insane.

Actually you will not find anywhere in this thread where I said the media was a primary reason for this man killing people that has been something people have assumed or maybe another poster said that but it has been my assertion the media is a factor because of their irresponsible fear mongering.

The guy and his wife worked for a defense contractor:

Kathleen Peterson, 52, worked for defense contracting firm Blackbird Technologies in Herndon, Va., where the couple lived. Albert Peterson had worked for Northtrop Grumman until he resigned in 2009. It is not clear where he was working at the time of the incident.

Perhaps there is a little bit more to the story than him being distraught over the presidential race.

I know this is a conspiracy site but I don’t buy into that idea. Besides I would think there would be more instances like this involving his coworkers if that were the case.

I think he was a troubled man that bought into the doom and gloom being pushed on TV way too much.
